Read this blog post from someone, and it was very interesting. When we think of the word "Theologian," we think of old, smart people who are fluent in Greek and Hebrew and have studied the Bible a hundred times and wrote books and commentaries. However, this blog post contends that since Christians think and answer questions like "Who is God?" or "Who is Jesus?", in a sense, all Christians are, in some degree, theologians. I happen to agree with him.

This blog post also categorized 5 different types of theologians. It is a basically a spectrum of two extremes. Which one are you? This blog post also talks about the extremes of leaning on either extremes of the spectrum. What are your opinions on this?

Interesting article. I'd say I'm somewhere in between Ministerial and Academic, but more towards the Ministerial theologian because I prefer to focus on just the simplicity of the gospel most of the time.

I would believe that I lean towards being a lay theologian, but I have a question first for confirmation at least. Some of my courses in college (Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology) have made me ask the question, "Do I hold this specific set of beliefs because of who I was born to and how they raised me?" Does asking this question and seeking to affirmatively answer it with "no" constitute the reflections needed to be a lay theologian?

Back the article itself, I agree that the two extremes mentioned are dangerous positions. Folk theologians would probably base their faith on what is common knowledge of Christianity. Academic theologians only study the Bible from an academic perspective and ignore their own faith.
