I recently read The Diary of Anne Frank. Based on a true story of a Jewish girl and her family in hiding from Nazi soldiers. I didn't like it...I LOVED it.

Animal Farm's a great book, I read that recently too.

Last book I read was The Little Book of Frauds by David Owen. It's a great book that catalogues 50 of the biggest frauds in recent history, with early ones dating back to colonization days. Very interesting to see how easy it is to pull off (well, for awhile-- they usually get caught eventually).

This thread feels nostalgic...

I read 'The Killer Angels' by Michael Shaara (At least I THINK that's his name) a while ago. It's Historical fiction about the American Civil War, and it is VERY well written. They even made a high budget movie over it.

I just finished reading "Ask and it is Given" by Jerry and Esther Hicks. It was ok, but I didn't like it as much as some of their other books.

I decided to Sticky this thread since it is a good source of discussion and book recommendations.

I've read a lot of books recently. Among them have been:

A Dance With Dragons by George R. R. Martin, the latest book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire, which the HBO show Game of Thrones is based upon.

Cold Vengeance by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. It's the latest in a series of books unofficially called the Agent Pendergast Series due to the central character... it's a great series that I recommend to any fans of sci fi or mysteries.

Kitty's Big Trouble by Carrie Vaughn, part of the Kitty Norville Series... supernatural theme, with the main character as a werewolf (named Kitty).

Currently I am reading Seeker which is the third book in a series by Jack McDevitt. It's a science fiction series with some faux history and mystery... very entertaining and a great read.

I will state that all of these books are fairly mature in tone. There is violence, sex, cursing, etc. So if you know you shouldn't be reading such things, don't.

Another book that I am nearly finished with, and that I recommend for everyone is Lies My Teacher Told Me. It is a book analyzing how American history is basically whitewashed in our schools, and what really happened in those events (like Columbus, the Pilgrims, Vietnam, etc). It looks at both grade school and high school books, and is suitable for all ages. It also goes into why this whitewashing occurs (basically, it's the publishers and the book adoption boards fault)

jasonZed : That's cool. I read those in the past year, and last week told my parents that they need to read them. I got my whole family hooked on the series.

I recently read Samurai Shortstop which I found to be very engrossing. I liked the way the author conveyed the modernization of Japan, and the 30 years or so where Japan was both traditional and contemporary at the same time.

I just finished The Crippled God , the last in Steven Eriksons EPIC fantasy series. It was good, but after so much build up things never end like you want them to. Plus I wish he had gone on 10 more books.
tabbikatt13 : Read Butchers "Codex Alera" series. Awesome!
Elara : You finished A Dance With Dragons? Winter is here!!!! Oh boy!
Also, I just reread Omnivores Dilemma  by Michael Pollan. Everyone who eats food should read it. Pollan is great. He also wrote In Defense of Food.

Recently I finished up the Scott Pilgrim series which I thought I wasn't going to like but  I've never laughed so much while reading.  Most of you should be pretty familiar with the story since it's been made into a movie and video game so I'm not going to bother to type an explanation out since I'm feeling especially lazy right now.

Right now I'm reading A Dance With Dragons.  I'm most of the way through the book and I'd definitely recommend the series to anyone over the age of 18.  >> Look to Elara's post above for a description.

Zamiel :
IronBars :

Without giving away spoilers, thoughts on the final Jon Snow chapter? I was shocked. It is so nice to know that I am not the only person here that is into A Song of Ice and Fire though.

Just finished reading Seeker, and it did not disappoint. Right now I am reading a book on the French & Indian War to brush up on the subject for next semester. Also I am waiting for my fiance's mom to finish reading Kitty's Greatest Hits which is a collection of short stories set in the Kitty Norville series.

Elara : I just finished the book not ten minutes ago. I'm also shocked. Jon Snows my favorite character out of the series.

Spoiler:
So his death was a little upsetting for me. Although it's possible he can come back with the fire kiss I doubt Melisandre(?) knows it or would use it if she could. More likely he'd live on through Ghost.

Now to wait for the next book to come out....I hate the wait :/

Now I'm reading a book about animated short films called Ideas for the Animated Short. A good read for anyone interested in animation.
