We eat both actually. When we are low on money. We'll normally just by the instant rice and just throw it in the frying pan and cook us up a meal. However, when we do buy real rice. We take our time coming up with new ideas of making the rice our own dish. Or we'll just cook it like we normally do with the rest of the meal.

I didn't really care for instant rice the one time I have had it... it works to help finish leftover curry but that is about it. By and large, we use real rice... specifically short grain sushi rice or the equivalent. Basmati rice is also really good though.

I've maybe had instant rice a couple times in my life. It's always "real" rice, but I'm never the one who makes it. Being here in Afghanistan, when I go to my routine dining facility (DFAC) they always have rice for lunch and dinner. Always. It's a NATO base, so there are many people here who have rice on a daily basis.
