What do you think of the new controller for the Wii...The Wii U, which is coming out 2012? I think it might be pretty cool, kinda like the DS, but with the Wii. What do you think of it? If you dont know what it is, here is a video of it.

I think it's a great idea! I love Nintendo and any console of theirs is a friend of mine, or something like that. On a side note, doesn't this sound like some other console which was supposedly going to be made? Something we discussed here on Vizzed. The Dreamcast 2!

Meh, from what I've read the new controller sounds like a slightly changed Ipad type of thing. An Ipad doesn't scream 'hardcore gaming" like Nintendo promised from its new console.

It'll be something...

something new...

I'll buy it to hold up my rep of owning all consoles, (excluding GBM, and Virtual Boy) I'll see how it goes.

Looks like a Wii, a less casual and more 1 player Wii, that doesn't need a TV. It'll be something cool. The controller basically IS the Wii U, because it has a 6.2 inch touch screen, microphone, gyroscope, accelerometer, front-facing camera, two analog controllers, and more buttons than a Black Eyed Peas costume.

To put it simply, Nintendo's Wii U controller is large and in charge. The controller measures into a 7x10-inch rectangle, making it, unquestionably, the biggest controller in recent gaming history.

Its defining feature, aside from its size, is a beautiful 6.2-inch touch screen. The controller also has plenty of conventional controls. Two circle pads act like analog sticks on either side. On the left, you'll find a D pad; on the right, you'll find A, B, X, and Y buttons. Along the top, you'll find two shoulder buttons and two additional triggers on the back. Running along the bottom of the controller are the usual system buttons: start, select, home, and power.

The controller also features speakers, a headphone out, a camera, stylus, and (if all that weren't enough) motion controls.

Despite its size, the controller doesn't feel like a brick. It's light enough to hold in one hand quite comfortably. At the same time, the lack of weight doesn't translate to a cheap or flimsy feel.

Nintendo offered no battery life estimates for the controller.
For anyone who want's a look at the controller, and a closer look at the unnamed console check out this link:

Personally? I think the controller is stupid. I don't know what all the specs are though since its new, but it has a negative effect on me at the moment.

I think it's a waste of a new console release. It's just a mini touch screen controller for a system that has been already published. Fail, much? The only promising thing I heard in the whole video for it was that "it will be backwards compatible"... Basically screaming out "THIS SYSTEM AND CONTROLLER WILL HAVE EXCLUSIVE VIDEO GAMES FOR IT!", but with a few of the other seen Wii Exclusive games, I'm not putting much hope in. If there will be a new sonic game added, then I'm in. I'll buy it, ifits exclusive. If not, it's just a waste of money investememts for Nintendo.

I'm not in the slightest bit impressed.

I have long learned to take anything Nintendo releases with a grain of salt, and think before acting. That being said, this screen will be gimmicky like how the Wii-mote is, and I expect to see a lot of shovel-ware that will try to capitalize on this. What I find interesting, though, is how Nintendo didn`t talk much about the actual console but the controller at E3. I have a feeling that this will be like almost every other Nintendo console: You will get a small percentage of games from Nintendo that are decent-good, another small percentage of decent third-party games and the vast majority being sub-par games that suffer from being generic, fatal flaws, or simply gimmicky.

I appreciate that I am being rather redundant but I am not going to buy this console unless I see significant quality coming from it with a good library of games.

I think this is definetly a step in the right direction from nintendo.

To the people who say this isn't for hardcore gamers, what exactly makes this not hardcore? It is basically a dual analogue PS controller with a touch screen in the middle. Basically what this means is that any third party game can be ported to the Wii U, the developers won't necessarily need to make use of the touch screen and it will play the exact same as a PS3, other than your hands being a couple more inches a part and the analogue sticks being on the top of the dpad / ABXY buttons.

Although developers don't need to use the touch screen on their ports, I am sure many of them will add new features into the games that will be exclusive for Nintendo, making the Wii U version the superior version to own. A good example of this is Ghost Recon Online, which was one of the only actual games shown off at E3, and is the only multiplatform game shown off for the Wii U. After watching the Ubisoft / Nintendo round table conference, I was imediatly sold on the idea of Wii U.
You can watch the Ghost Recon Online presentation being played here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2SskUtg6TI
But if you have the time I highly suggest you watch the entire 70+ minute conference, as it goes into more detail of the unique features in the wii u version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhDOINfwFEs
The intro lasts until about 6 minutes so feel free to skip that far ahead, the Ghost Recon presentation starts shortly after the 6 minute mark.

If you are unable or too lazy to watch the video I will give an example of a unique feature that makes the Wii U version better than the other versions. First of all there will be a full map constantly on the touch screen. There will also be a spy drone available for use, and with the Wii U , you will be able to use the touch screen to navigate with it and see the enemies on the touch screen, while at the same time having full acess to the battlefield on the TV. Although the xbox and ps3 versions will likely have a map and a spy drone, they won't be able to use them without going to a special menu / area on the TV.

The full conference shows an exclusive new Wii U game, Killer Freaks and talks about Assassins Creed for the Wii, which will also have exclusive features for the Wii U.

Considering this is only the first multiplatform game shown off for the Wii U, and it is the superior version, the future for Wii U looks very bright.

Aside from the fact that developers will be porting more games to the Wii U and giving them unique features, they will also be creating exclusive games that are only available for the Wii U. Well they will be exclusive until Sony and Microsoft copy the Wii U controller and come out with the exact same thing for their consoles.

To sum up, I am extremely excited for Wii U as it is both inovative and more traditional than the Wii. I don't consider myself a Nintendo fanboy by any means as I own every system except for Xbox , and use my PS3 much more than my Wii, but Nintendo does have a special place in my heart as I have been enjoying their games for over 23 years.

Why do people say this isn't a hardcore console?
Nintendo is giving all the hardcore gamers exactly what they wanted, plus a touch screen.

It's like saying the PS Vita isn't hardcore because it has a touch screen...

This looks like a system I could really use. But by the time it has come out, I will have already wasted my saved money on a 3DS. I'l get it someday though.

I, for one, am looking forward to the Wii U. Despite its name and appearance, the console looks quite promising. The various demos that the showed at E3, and the promise of another Smash Bros and Pikmin 3, doesn't make it seem pike another shovelware console. I think 3rd parties are going to make more conscious decisions on what games to make for the console, seeing as the Wii did better than expected.

The Wii U has been purported to be more powerful than the xbox360 and PS3, but since the system is coming out so much later than the other two I think that the new Wii should be much stronger and better in almost every way. Instead they are coming out with what the original Wii should have been, High def and it comes with a user interface that looks remarkable like a PSP. The new controller also looks cheap and very flimsy. One would think that since it is much larger and notedly more sophisticated than the Wii controllers that nintendo would make it a much higher quality.
I agree with the article I read earlier, nintendo just can't keep up anymore and might just become a publisher like sega.

Nintendo is pretty creative I'd love to own the new Nintendo Wii U just because I know Nintendo doesn't disappoint when it comes to classic games and new game play.

You guys do realize that the screen on the controller is not high def? So if you choose to play the game on the controller, the quality will be severely lowered and probably worse than playing a high def game on a standard TV because the screen is very small.
