theres a cannon near the ledge outside the castle, take it with the winghat upgrade and fly to the top of the castle, there you'll see a yoshi that'll give you 99 lives! not even joking!

well, you need a certain amount of stars to unlock that cannon to get to the top of the castle. then, you'll see Yoshi.


P.S. insiders info... That's why on Super Mario 64 DS, Yoshi is on the roof of the Castle

This is old news. I already know how to get 99 lives. This game is fun and I would beat it all the time and get the cannon outside the castle. What I do not get is that there are three mushrooms on top of the castle...Yoshi is up there to give you 99 lives. That does not make sense.
