I couldn't think of a better thread title. Anyway, I recently was hired as a temp at a box factory (i work in the call center processing the orders that come through), what I've noticed is that a lot of the women I work with will sit down during lunch and have a chew out of others. Some of it is very nasty.

I personally don't join in with this sorta behaviour because I think its childish and believe in approaching the person if I have a problem with them. So I wanted to know, what does everyone else personally do in these situations?

I tend to leave.

I'm friends with a lot of girls, and they tend to gossip more often than guys, and they are far nastier about it in my experience.

When girls start flabbing like that, I tend to just get the hell out of there, its more effective than trying to get them to shut up. Girls gossip. It happens.

I think blaming one gender for gossip is completely sexist and wrong. Guys gossip worse than girls in several situations, work being one of them for me.

I'm a gossip. I admit it. I get in the middle of everything, especially what's based on social relationships. I'm in sales, so knowing who feels how about who and what is a powerful weapon at my disposal. I have to follow the relationships in my business.

If you don't like it, do what you would around other things you don't like: Avoid it. Stay away. If it's important, join the people at lunch or wherever but don't join in. Don't offer anything and only make half-hearted noises to back up their claims and quotes.

I HATE gossip, I don't gossip about other people but people used to also gossip about me and when I used to go to public school girls would gossip and look and me or another girl so I know it was GOSSIP.. but all you can really do is walk away and in the end one day that person who is gossiping will be gossiped about by somebody else it just never ends though..

No, unlike other girls I know, I'm not a fan of gossip at all. Besides the fact that it can be extremely hurtful to others, spreading words behind a person's back is wrong. Gossip is inevitable, but you can help stop the spread of it by walking away or not listening to it whenever it comes up.
