You can use mIRC to connect to an IRC server such as irc.foo.net and then join a channel such as #channel

=)

It's a cool place for all of use to communicate in real time without worrying about horrid IM names and services.

"Chat rooms" are so f***ing lame.

IRC is the easiest way of setting up a real time communication access point for everyone. Especially because IRC clients are widely avalible and on every platform.

Thanks to some dickwad companies some plugins needed to use various chat services are not avalible on Linux or even OSX.

I don't see this as a need truly. I've seen it done on smaller boards and they just turn out to be a failure. Nobody's ever in them ... yadda yadda ...

But that's probably just me. Why? I'm not an IRC fan personally, unless it's with a group of friends, you'd never find me in one. I'm hardly on AIM to chat with people as it is, so if we did do this, you could probably expect to -never- see me in it.
