IRC is kind of like a chat room, But not really.

You can use mIRC to connect to an IRC server such as irc.foo.net and then join a channel such as #channel

=)

It's a cool place for all of use to communicate in real time without worrying about horrid IM names and services.

irc = internet relay chat....its like really old chatting and really low bandwidth usages...unless dling/uping files....a lot of people will stay in them and play games and in between chat on them...

"Chat rooms" are so f***ing lame.

IRC is the easiest way of setting up a real time communication access point for everyone. Especially because IRC clients are widely avalible and on every platform.

Thanks to some dickwad companies some plugins needed to use various chat services are not avalible on Linux or even OSX.

I don't see this as a need truly. I've seen it done on smaller boards and they just turn out to be a failure. Nobody's ever in them ... yadda yadda ...
