I notice a lot of people giving a lot of games a 10 for an overall score and also for graphics, story, etc. In my opinion, someone should only give out a 10 to their favorite game, otherwise the score has in a sense loses its value.

So what I was thinking about doing is only allowing users to give out a 10 to only 1 game. Likewise, maybe only allow them to give out a few 10s for graphics, a few 10s for story, sound, etc.

What do you guys think of this?

i feel that it is abused, but I also dont see it really working to well if you restrict it, "sigh".. . if only people would just be fair to each game, and still recognize it's faults, or areas were it really isn't that great even though it's one of our favorite games.

I second what Garth says. Well. I've only rated one game so far. I don't remember what it was. I thoroughly enjoyed that game and I decided to rate it. However. I didn't give it a 10/10 score. I gave it maybe a 9.1 or 9.2 Somewhere around it. The sound was great, The graphics sometimes lag and freezes, but nothing major. In other words. The rating system is not working at all and i´m not talking about the rating in reviews...i´m talking about the other rating, which you see when you are searching for games. I never see a rating less than 6 or 7, even if the game is horrible.
Besides, having a rating like 6.8 or 3.5 makes rating harder, why couldn´t it be 1-5 or 1-10(without decimals).It´s like having 1-100.

I think if people actually averaged the score correctly—the sum of scores divided by the number of scores, then it would give the incentive to put more thought into the rating.

You use a program to average the scores by decimal for the top-rating among all of the ratings, wouldn't it be the same? The variables contradict otherwise, or else it is just a bias review in which case, yeah, you'll have to implement the restrictions.

For example, someone could start a thread about how to rate a game professionally, so more people will learn to review more objectively when they rate games.
