Since this is Vizzed, you should probably start with a game that's in the RGR.

I would vote for either Crystal or FireRed. I'd pick FireRed over regular Red purely because of the graphics. Crystal is still probably the best. FireRed is like a Plan B.

Fire Pokémon are the best starters for Gen I, II, and IV. Treecko is better than Torchic. I got a Chimchar in one of the hacks and liked it.

I think you should start with the best; in my opinion, no other Pokemon game had the same impact that Pokemon Crystal did. The game was an excellent mix of new effects, old formulas, and the greatest Pokemon adventure made to date. After doing the best, I think you should do the originals, then focus on doing them in order after that.
