The chat room now costs 1 Viz for each minute you spend in there (more info here). Staff do not lose Viz since they are encouraged to be in there and mod things.

The reason for this is that a lot of people use the chat room but don't post, this hurts Vizzed more than it helps so as a way to get people to post more that only chat, making it cost Viz to be in there is the perfect solution. Also I think it'll help reduce spam because spammers are usually going to be low on Viz which means they wont be able to chat in there very long and you need at least 100 Viz to get into the chat room now.



Also, the log on your profile that shows how many hours you've spent in the chat room has been reset (but it'll never be reset again since I've coded it differently).



The last thing worth pointing out is that at the beginning of each day you'll receive a Notification if you've spent time in the chat room during the last day and it'll basically tell you how much time you spent in chat for that day and your total time.

If chat costs viz, these members, who only chat and usually like to cause drama, will not be able to do that anymore, when they run out of Viz. Also this way, they're encouraged to join the board too and start posting,in order to gain viz
And also it's good that it's free for staff members, so we'll be able to spend time there, whenever it's need it, without worrying about Viz.

I like this too. It's weird how we can have 800 people online and not get as many posts. I know it's mostly RGR, but it's still good to get more people posting.

The only downside I can see is that people who want to spam chat will just spam the Board, get banned from the Board, then spam chat. It's almost like this is encouraging chat spammers to spam the Board, but I hope that doesn't happen.

I think all the good that WILL come from this will make up for any bad that MIGHT come from it.

BNuge : It's far easier to catch and control forum spam than it is chat room spam.

I agree with David, forum spam is more easy to handle. But chat is like a chaotic place and it's very hard to enforce the rules in the right way

The only problem with chat is the inconsistent lag, that appears usually when there are double digit people in chat. Other than that though, the chat room is already a success.

The only people complaining about the Viz loss are the spammers who don't want to compromise, and soon enough they will get weeded out.

cop7000 : Nice, I spent 72, but it was alll worth it. Chat room is a more direct place for me to meet people, but it doesn't help me with posting, which is why I like the loss of vizzed.

It's a good way to keep away the spammers. Especially how you need 100 Viz to be in the chat rooms, and to have passed the newbie quiz.

But it doesn't matter, 153 Viz is not that much.

It's not iPod friendly, it never updates, and it constantly refreshes, meaning I have to go back to the Vizzed Index, and click on "Chat Rooms" again.

But overall, I'm still glad that chat is back. And now there are requirements, so I won't have to deal with many newbie flamers.

i expected this i logged on this morning and it says i lost 28 Viz plus leggy told whoever was in the chat room yesterday it doesn't cost that much anyways hopefully spammers will go away now

This is a great change. Some very nice work David. Especially costing of Viz.

(Although now we'll have to be a bit more watchful for forum spamming for viz)

Even though this change was made before I became a newbie of Vizzed I like this change very much.
There has a been a spammer in the chatroom recently and I hope this change will keep him on his toes.

How about like only amount of posts in thread. like only allow 5 posts in one thread and have to wait for next day. That way, a lot more easier and less chance of flamer, i hope...

I don't actually mind this update. Now I can keep track of how much I've been in the chat (I'm just a little ticked that the log is reset so I have to start from zero again :'(
