He's 4 years of age, and likes racing games best. The problem is... Half his games he has for his PS2 we got him for use when he's visiting weekly are terrible. He likes them, but I can't let any nephew of mine play games with bad controls. No! The only game he has that has good controls is that game based on the movie Cars. It's a fun game, too. I'm looking for more racing games for him that are on PS2 with good controls. I also am looking for games of other genres for him that are easy for a 4 year old, and don't require tons of help from me.
Guess I better give a funny story involving him. He helped me figure out a few parts of the game Batman Arkham Asylum. He probably just is better at looking at the big picture, as I have trouble looking at the big picture. I pay more attention to the way Batman throws a Boomerang, in fact. I let him play Kingdom Hearts 2 last week, and well... He and his mom, which is my sister, had trouble figuring out where the old lady's cat was... My sister kinda has a past with drug abuse, and well... Her brain is fried. Go figure. I don't want to have to set up the flipping games for either of them, so I need simple games. The problem is, my nephew hates graphics that are 8-bit. He's fine with 16-bit graphics, but 8-bit makes him hate a game. Now, before anyone is angered by this, the kid is 4. What do you expect? Sorry if that sounded rude or ranty, but I don't want to get told how he's an idiot or that he has no reason to exist. He's a great kid who is very loving. He is just a kid, though. That aside, his mom's ex-husband's parents are very strict when it comes to games, and I would rant a bit on how they let him watch movies that give him nightmares... I will just keep that out of the topic. The thing is, they only let him play E rated games, and T rated games. The T rated games have to have zero foul language. I already have Gran Turismo games on my list, as well as, Need for Speed games. I'd like a few suggestions for other well-made, age appropriate racing games he might like. These have to be PS2 or PS1 games, by the way. The well-made, age appropriate rules goes for PS2 or PS1 games that are easy for him to figure out. He may be a smart kid, but he is a bit behind in his growth. I had the same issue myself, actually, but I was less dependent on others, so I was adept at figuring out games. He is much more dependent on others when he is confused, so I want to make life easy for both me and him. I got schoolwork to do, and I'm not going to let him being lost in a game stop me from doing my work. Thank you for the help, and time you give by helping me out. I appreciate any help I can get, as I'm not too keen when it comes to games about racing. At all. Guess I better give a funny story involving him. Um I'm not too familiar with games that would be easy for him. Cause it's been a LONG time since I've played PS2 games. But I know there are games like the LEGO games, I heard those are easy for younger kids. Um, I am not too familiar with racing games, other than the ones you mentioned. Try doing a google search for a list of games for kids around his age for the PS2. Other than that, I am afraid I can't really help much. |

The LEGO themed games are great, you could check out theToy Story 3 game, or some of the Spongebob games. If you can find it there is a Dora the Explorer game. Other games I would suggest are videogames of board games like Hasbro family game night, but the real thing would be better. The Sly Cooper games are pretty simple, but may have some parts that will annoy him. I would advise reading if you think Sly Cooper is something you want him playing-they steal things from the evil bad guys (stealing?) - Theives |

UserMike : Oh good Odin. Why did I forget Sly Cooper? I actually let him watch me play it. His mom has a history with thieving, but he doesn't know of that. Yeah, he doesn't have tons of great role models, so I'm probably one of the few decent people in the family he knows. I tell him not to do any of the things he sees in video games that I deem socially wrong. I already told him stealing is wrong, and he knows it.
Told him gangs are bad since there was gangs in inFAMOUS. I let him know if what is right from wrong. He heeds my words since he sees me as the cool aunt. I wouldn't say the Sly Cooper games are right for him right now. He can't read, for one, and has hearing issues, I think. The only games I can even think of that aren't racing games for him are the old click and point educational games like Put Put. Those are cool games, so he would like them. Put Put has a car, as well. I'm a teenager for those thinking I'm over the age of 20. I'm 16. I've played most of the classic PS2 exclusives that are rated E, and love them to this day. I don't know how well-made that Dora game is, sadly. I would rather he doesn't get anything with crap controls... It feels wrong to give a kid crappy video games. He deserves awesome ones. KlawedFlaw : Putt Putt yeah thats a good one. See if you can get/download interactive learning CDRom games for pc. Like Jumpstart, games for K-5th grade? Freddy Fish, Pajama Sam. Those would probably be best. |

Big kid Klawed Flaw gets Ico. Nephew is 5, he too young. It was a big rock.
His motor skills issue is why he probably couldn't play Ico. There's another problem... He's 5 and has the attention span of a flea. He can't even play the same game for more than ten minutes unless he's with me. It seems he knows when he's with the aunt, which is me, he has to put up with all my grown up folly like playing the same game for more than 2 hours. He's getting a DS soon, possibly, and will probably ask for suggestions. Remember guys, don't give suggestions like The World Ends With You. He's got a conservative grandma as his guardian. The kid's mature enough to see blood and guts, but he's still 5. He could very well repeat things that aren't song lyrics. I would have an older system like an NES for him, but how can I manage both my use of it, and his? I'd be using it, as well. I was going to get him a GBA SP, but I also need one, and that kinda means I would end up borrowing his. Come to think of it. Anyone notice how me and my nephew are like some odd version of brother and sister since we share stuff? Well, until he gets a DS, just keep on the lookout for the, "My nephew needs games for his DS!111!111!!" thread. It'll have better grammar, though. I'll suggest..
The Need for Speed games Gran Turismo - complicated if you dive into it, but it can be fun in arcade mode Crazy Taxi Any game with a car and girl on it. Sports games(?) - not sure his opinion on those. It's hard to choose games for a kid like that, because I'm basically the opposite, I detest racing games, and love 8 bit. So it's like trying to reccommend something I see as crap but other people I know like.
