I've gotten an email from IGN, and they said that Activision canceled Guitar Hero, and all Guitar Hero games to come. They've also canceled True Crime series.

Well, that sucks. But I saw it coming. I've heard ever since GH 5 kinda flunked they've been making big cuts to everything.

Good thing Rockband is still around

Definitely not a loss for me either....

I've never been a TRUE fan of Guitar hero...the first one was fun...but after the next few came out it's become boring and repetitive.

Guitar Hero III was the first one that I had and it was nothing special. My brother bought it and used some "unlock all" cheat that took the fun out of anything other than free play. I had played "Carry on Wayward Son" at my cousin's house around 10 times in a row so I could learn the controls.

DragonForce was fun to play for a while, but that was the only song that I seriously enjoyed. I didn't last more than a second or two playing that song on Extreme.

I don't really care for RockBand either. The games are good for parties, but that's about it. They can't stand up to Metroid or Zelda when I'm bored.

I heard that on Hard News Yesterday. It doesn't really surprise me considering how far the music genre has fallen over the past few years. I mean Harmonix was just basically given away last month.
I was interested in Guitar Hero when the first one came out, and still fairly interested when #2 game out. They were fresh and interesting back then. The ultimate party game to break out when you are having some drinks with friends. I got sick of them pretty quick though, and I haven't even played a Guitar Hero game since #3 which I only played for a little bit at Best Buy.

the_casualty: Rock Band isn't really "Still around" since Harmonix just got sold for 50$ (yes, dollars) and debt. Who knows what the future of that franchise is either.

Saw the GI post this morning. I'm surprised it happened so quickly, but I personally never cashed in on the GH madness.

...and Rock Band has one foot in the grave, what with its developer being released. They're independent now, but will only have the resources for DLC until they can find a new publisher to take them in. So music games are flunking hard now.

Also, this means DJ Hero is trashed too. And that one actually had promise .

Good. I never liked Guitar Hero and its family of games. This was inevitable anyway. When Rock Band came out, it was pretty much the same game just with more instruments. Personally, I was getting tired of seeing all of these dudes pushing buttons on their plastic toy and stealing all of the wiminz away.

Somewhat unexpected to me. Somewhat. Activision has not been doing too well with other games as well. They were the last company to develop a game for the Crash Bandicoot series --first started by Naughty Dog--, and it alienated me to my favorite series --of course, this was part of a long line of failures. At least I have all the original games. But back to the topic at hand.

With the future of Guitar Hero looking bleak, what does that mean for those who have bought some of the games? Has the resale value of the controllers and games just fallen off of a cliff? Also, could Rock Band monopolize on the situation? (Yeah, my questions are sort of financial ones, but I am curious.)

I'm kinda happy. I still have my Wii Guitar Hero controller, but it's only good for looks now. That's it. I may pull it out to show off how much I suck at the game, which was not the case back before I knew how to play an actual guitar. It is sad in a way due to the loss of a series that gave people a gateway into the wonderful world of art.

Many children pushing those buttons were unknowingly getting their fingers used to odd positions. It even helped with bringing people to learn an instrument. This is a bittersweet death, so to speak. It had all the potential used up, but it was helping the music world at the same time. We had fun when we first got into the games, and the hours are joys to remember.

R.I.P Guitar Hero

Memorial of a soldier moment aside, I'll give my opinion on the games. Having played just the third game, I loved what I was doing. I played Prayer of the Refugee for hours on that game. Then I got a real guitar. I would sacrifice the silence of the night as I strummed it. I am too depressed as usual to pick up guitar again, but I know how to play, and it just... Really made the third game only good for letting people laugh at me sucking at a game based on the instrument I own.

I never really liked these types of games. If it was in the form of mini games, or had Mother 3's take, yeah, I liked it. If it wasn't just an addition, I probably won't like it.

Although Guitar Hero could be fun at times, it was kinda obvious it wasn't going to be around much longer. The game didn't have a high replay value, unless you like playing the same songs over and over. Never understood why someone would wast their time becoming good at the game when they could go buy a guitar and learn actually play the song. As for True Crime, it was the biggest waste of space on my game shelf for years and I'm glad no more will come.
