Mario Kart Wii is definitely my favorite of the series.  I love the new tracks and the addition of the bikes, and the fact that it has a lot of retro tracks in it is really great also.  Plus, the new power-ups are entertaining and I love playing online.

Mario Kart: Double Dash would be in a close second.  It would probably be first if I didn't get it so long after it came out; my only local game store still wanted $35-40 for it used years after it was released.  They always overcharged for Mario games.  I probably didn't have Double Dash for six months before Mario Kart Wii came out.

My favorite Mario Kart game would be Double Dash because I played it the most with friends and it seems to be the least cheap yet most refined game in the series. Other games just seem to take the game a bit too far or not polished enough. I think Double Dash had it just right.
