No because there are so many people that do this, it would be weird to have people packed in a jail cell. I would keep going with banning or muting the person.

I think it depends on how severe the offense is.. like if its I'm gonna kill you or i'm gonna rob your house or something then in general yes.

I'm gonna say no. If you can't handle somebody being stupid and lashing out for their own crappy life, then you shouldn't get on the computer.

I think it should because cyber bullying can cross the realm of mere facebook or w/e if you become a meme that gets laughed at you become a laughign stock of  a very wide range of people you'd basically be famous for being stupid or w/e like alot of people if youve ever been on the board that i cant say its name because of rules 1 and 2 .... (/b/)

Unless its on sites like Facebook where the victim has no anonymity or over email, and there are death threats involved or a continued campaign of harassment then I don't think its a crime. This would basically be the same as if someone were sending you death threats or harassing you by post, phone or text. On most websites everyone is anonymous so nobody knows who the victim is, so personal insults are impossible, and the same for the perpetrator. In those cases its simply a case for the moderators to handle.

On one hand, people need to take things said on the internet with a grain of salt. It's the internet.

On the other hand, I think bullying online can be serious. Death-threats, violent threats, stalking, sexual harassment, preying on children, and so on, are not acceptable in my eyes. Just because something is said online doesn't mean the person cannot be or is not serious.

If someone was stalking me online (it has to happened before, to a pretty serious and disturbing degree, but not so much that I thought my stalker would make efforts to physically harm me)... If there was no option for me to report it to the police or some other authority, I would feel vulnerable.

My younger sibling has been in trouble with the police because she was making threats against a girl that was at her highschool, and I think my sister deserved to get in trouble for that. Bullies suck. It's not acceptable and I can't imagine how crappy it made her classmate feel.

Taking flak from strangers on the internet is very different than getting online harassment from people you know in real life. Like I said, just because it's said online, doesn't mean it can't be serious or can't hurt your feelings. One of my classmates decided to write blog entries (visible to all my friends) about what she hates about me, that I am a s***, why I'm a bad friend, etc... I regret not telling someone about it, because it really did hurt my
feelings and mess me up for a long time. I thought I was going to lose
my friends and I was so confused as to why she turned her back on me,
even though I found out online. & If that makes me weak or thin-skinned, then so be it, I guess that's how I am.

I don't think cyber bullying should be a criminal offence, as I am an advocate for free speaking. Calling people names or making fun of people isnt a criminal offence outside of the internet so why should it be considered one on the internet? I don't think it is morally right, but the provoking individual shouldn't be considered a criminal.

With that being said, there are other things people can do on the internet that should be considered a criminal offence way before bullying is. For instance stalking some one should be considered an criminal offence  and so should death threats to some degree. These might allready be considered criminal though, I am not too familiar with laws and internet related regulations.

Definitely! think about the Phoebe Prince case in Hadley, Mass! it was nationwide! and Hadely happened to be a town right next to  mine... it was horrible. bullying of any kind should be outlawed. it's outrageous! we all have the right to feel safe and respected.

Should it be? Yes. Bullying should be prosecuted in any form.

Will it be? Probably not, because anonymity on the internet (which is a good thing) makes it very hard to confirm who the bully really is and thus makes prosecuting extremely hard.

Honestly, I think more effort should me made to go after bullies in the real world first and hopefully the cyberbullying will decrease as a result... no one is just a cyberbully after all.

In my opinion, it should be outlawed in some cases. If someone criticises you for a bad idea or bad work and you start crying, then toughen up. If someone did this to me, I'd say that I'd try harder next time or rethink my idea. In the cases where someone threatens you, then yes, they should be sent to prison, I'm pretty sure it's outright illegal to send someone, online or not, death threats in Australia anyway.

I feel with with today's society, a lot more people take each other more seriously on the internet, and one of the problems at hand is, we don't know the tone of how a person speaks. Then we can't forget, there are also trolls who bully others just to piss their victim off like how a bully likes to get a reaction out of hurting someone sensitive.

Another problem I feel needs to be addressed is how hackers cyberbully. I'm not exactly sure it belongs within cyberbully for sure, but, when they are making death threats and saying they could hack your information and etc, that's quite scary. I happen to know someone who knows a dangerous hacker, he doesn't bully people or anything and uses it for business, but the fact that he can find out any of your info by just knowing you exist and literally screw your life over...is what worries me most...especially when they tell you they will do it. That right there is definitely a criminal offense, but we can't we telling everyone not to try and hurt others when that happens in real life too. I guess I want to say it's almost a part of growing up and trying to find the best solution to it.

For me,it would depend. If someone was threatening you with a death thread or something like that.then yes.If it is such something like really life bullying, than no.It would just depend with some people like me.I kinda say it should be a criminal offense.I could like that and boom!No more cyberbullying forever!

Regardless of a yes no view, implementing such a thing would be near impossible, even if you tracked which computer sent it, if the account used contained there name, how do you prove they did it? Theyd claim they were hacked or a friend did it.
Certainly bullying is wrong no matter where, and if possible clamped down on, but odds are not in favour

This is a hard question to answer. I will say that if people can find the line where talking turns into bulling then yes it should be illegal but in my eyes the line would be kind of high.

To me, its not a real threat to people until it becomes physical  for example if it leads to someone getting beat up, stalked, raped, or murdered. However, I will also say that depending how serious it is (example are those that cyberbullying has led them to suicide).  If it is then those people should be sued for harassment.  but no jail until it becomes physical.

I, myself, don't understand cyber bullying. If someone is bullying you online, then block them. Then they won't be able to message you. If they send their friends to bully you, block their friends. If they start bullying you on another site that doesn't have a "block" option, report them. Pretty much every single social website has either a "block" option or a "report" option. If you use those, then the person can't bully you anymore.

Now if they send you death threats online, that's serious. That should be reported immediately. However, if they're just calling you names and such then there's no reason you can't just block/report them and stop them from talking to you through the computer.

I find the concept of cyber bullying laughable. Maybe it's just because I've perfected the art of not giving a crap but when I hear about how people will get nasty messages and the like I just go "So?". It's not that I don't care about the person but it's just so simple to block/ignore them. Answering and even reading them is just feeding the bully. Why should you even care what they say? There are extremes though that shouldn't be taken so lightly. Like someone making whole websites dedicated to bringing one person down. I can't really finish my thoughts on this atm so I'll probably edit more stuff in later.

There are extremes though that shouldn't be taken so lightly. Like someone making whole websites dedicated to bringing one person down. I can't really finish my thoughts on this atm so I'll probably edit more stuff in later.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
