I'm gonna introduce a big "what if" here...
WHAT IF Nintendo had never stepped foot into the gaming industry? Would gaming cease to exist today? Would this website even be here?!? I have a feeling the world would've been a waaay different place. Think about it.


...For sure, we wouldn't have da good ol' Italian Plumber from Brooklyn around (at the very least). Picture this: Nintendo never created the NES, so video games weren't "revived" after the video game crash of '83. Do you think somebody else would've eventually attempted to re-invent video gaming, similar to Nintendo?

I think eventually there would be a gaming industry but it would not be near the quallity it is now. MAn to think about if NINTENDO never existed... Thats an insane thought.... i dont know if this site would be here :O That would be very very bad.

I dunno...Atari would have continued to throw out crap...perhaps Atari would still be the leader in the Video Game industry .

That would be scary.

I think video games would have died out. It was seen as a fad for a while until Nintendo came along and released good game after good game.

Same as NotJon here, it used to be considered a fad, and that whole video game crash of 1983 almost ruined everything. Video games would probably be gone by now.

After reading all these comments, it actually scares me that video gaming wouldn't be how it is today. Well, if Nintendo didn't appear int he video game industry, we would probably have no or extremely bad video games.

.... do you guys so easily forget Sega? Sega would have dominated the gaming industry if Nintendo hadn't existed. They had a console that matched the Nintendo ones from the beginning. Now, they weren't as popular as Nintendo's consoles, but Sega was there. Things would have looked very different but I don't see things being all that different.

Most of the time when people hear "SEGA" they think of Sonic, which makes them think of Mario, which ends up leading to Nintendo.

Now although Sonic MIGHT not exist there is a small chance Sega would make something to make them rule.

Now Sega only got famous worldwide when the Mega Drive came out, with Sonic of course .

The problem is that Sega was one of the victims of the Video Game Crash, so it is still not possible to think that the gaming industry would be similar to today.

Alex Kidd will also be more popular and stuff, I say Sega might focus more on that and still MIGHT be able to fix the video game industry.

I say that if Nintendo didn't step forward then kids today won't be as fat.

I am also the only one who thinks that today without nintendo there will still be some great games that are mostly simulations, like The sims but maybe something different, if it was not for Nintendo though not many will have confidence in making video games .

I believe perhaps Sega would've gotten to it eventually, however they would not have the success they did without Super Mario to let consumers realize that games can actually be legit. I'm not sure it would have been anywhere close to the same industry.

geeogree : True Sega did have a console out, but if you look at it, it was progressing more toward a computer. Nintendo brought out the idea of mascots. Think about it, without Nintendo there's probably no Miyamoto to create, Zelda, Mario, etc. The franchises themselves are not my point, but rather the people they inspired part of which make games for us today. Look at Sonic, he was a reaction to Mario. Remember who helped lay the ground work for the Playstation?

Of course it's possible that someone else would of grabbed Miyamoto, however I do think the video games industry would be vastly different today without Nintendo. Nintendo directly and indirectly helped the market go from kids toys to what we see it as today.

Nintendo has brought in a lot of innovations since its startup that the other guys have failed to bring, albeit not so much of the graphical kind. Without Nintendo, we might have a completely different view on gaming today, and who knows, perhaps we'd still be going to arcades. Despite lack of innovation in many areas, Nintendo has defined much of what gaming is today, giving us some of the most memorable characters and franchises in gaming history.

Still, it's possible that another company could have brought in the same sort of innovation and creativity. Who knows what could have happened if Nintendo didn't exist?

For me, Nintendo has been a real life changer. ALL of my game consoles are Nintendo consoles, and my favorite games are almost all Nintendo games. Now that Kinect and Move have been released, that may eventually change, but for now, I'm sticking with what I enjoy, and what I can afford.

we'd probably be where we are now with games, just withou nintendo. because gaming software would have been created at some point whether nintendo was around or not.

Nintendo has an important role in gaming history without it playstation or the xbox never would have existed. We would probably be limited to arcade games or computer games if Nintendo never existed as it introduced many franchises we all know and love like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and even Megaman.

Well we would be playing Atari 1023812090 crap. I mean that would be the Driving force unless for some reason a little company called SEGA decided to get into the game. Then they would be the Nintendo of today.

RideZeLitenin : Oh man... don't say that!!! This world would have nothing to do. I mean, Nintendo has brought video gaming so far. Would we still have the video game technology we have now or would we be stuck in a world of 8bit horror? I guess we'll never know.

Without Nintendo we would be playing on home computers like the Commodore still.
Nintendo reintroduced the console to the gaming industry, even if consoles did happen there would be no Sonic because SEGA would have had no need for a new mascot to compete with Mario.

We may also still have many arcades everywhere because the console helped kill off that business and Sony would not not have made the PlayStation because Nintendo would not be there to introduce them to the industry with the Nintendo PlayStation (A SNES disk drive produced by Sony) and Microsoft may have never entered the market with the XBOX because SEGA would not have asked for there help with the Dreamcast introducing them to the market.

So basically the world would have ended.

If Nintendo would have not been around back in the dayu there probonbly would not be any good games out there to play in the future and ps3 and xbox 360 and ps3 would not have been thought of at all thus games would not exist

RideZeLitenin : Not necessarily..personally, I think Sega Genesis is what made gaming what it is today (if you will) that attracted more people to play video games than any nintendo game.

Well, I think one or all of these things would happen:

1. Most gaming would suck nowadays.
2. Atari would be kings of gaming and make crappy games just like they did in the 80's.
3. Sega would probably be a lot more popular in console standards and probably make that rumored Dreamcast sequel.

If it didn't exist I wouldn't be a member of vizzed because I join to play a savable pokemon silver.
