Nothing ever happens in southern new jersey except the occaisional wild fire or severe thunderstorm so I would like to know if anyone has ever seen a tornado. I am very interested in tornadoes and would like to hear some personal accounts. If you have a picture or two please, I encourage you to post it!

Haha you live in Jersey? I do too, lol, except more north. Nothing really ever happens here either, the nearest tornado we had by us was like 3 hours of driving away and was very, very minor and did basically no damage except knock down some tree branches.

I live in North Carolina and a tornado went over my school(it was suronded by mountains...) but it was kinda scary because the sky went black/green and it was loud...

I saw a funnel cloud once when a super cell was gonna hit Milwaukee. It was rotating very fast but it passed. If I only had my camera. Other than that I've only had close encounters of one striking down and super bad storms.

I live in Kentucky and I was in Owensboro during what the people of Owensboro call 'Tornado 2000'(can you guess in what year the tornado struck?). My house was only about 2 or 3 miles away from where the tornado actually hit. It tore apart an entire neighborhood and left all of the houses in shambles. I was little then so I don't have any pictures, but it was sad. I don't think anyone was killed, but there were a few injured. I was really freaked out by how close the tornado was to my house.

Nothing happens around here either. No tornadoes, volcanoes nor earthquakes. Sometimes a stronger rain

Never been near a tornado and hope I never will have to be near one. Here in Las Vegas, all can get our floods, but they dont occur that often. There has been only one tornado recorded in Nevada's history, but it was a long time ago.

I have seen some legendarily huge tornadoes. They are not really much too see because you have to get your A$$ down! Really you can get killed really easy by the things.

Tornadoes are pretty frequent during the Springtime here in Nebraska, however I myself haven't had to deal with any real tornado damage. However I do remember being at my grandparents house in Kearney 2 years ago to experience quite a storm...

I have never seen a tornado, but I am deathly afraid of them. I don't want to EVER have to face one. I'd sooner swallow a golfball.

I hope I am not offending anyone by this small comment. But I have been reading the thread, and couldn't help but smile when pretty much everyone said that they are deathly afraid of tornadoes (mainly because they don't live in areas where they get them). Almost all my life, I lived in southwestern Kansas. If you don't know, tornadoes are VERY common there. Our sirens went off often where I lived. We are so used to them that we do take them seriously, but we don't retreat to the basement or storm shelters when the alarm goes off. Often, people and their kids (I did when I was a kid) would go outside during a warning or sighting (if it was outside of town). We would stand around in the street looking in the direction of the sighting trying to spot it. It rarely happened, but I have seen about a dozen growing up. Once we see it, we look at it. If we know it is coming into town, we go to the basement. Although, that was when I lived in the trailer park, which was on the outskirts of the city. When I got older and we moved into the middle of the city, we did the same thing, only never saw them because we never actually had one go into the city. Now, I live in eastern Kansas for college. Just 2 nights ago, our sirens went off. I live on the top floor of my apartment complex, so I went out to the balcony because it faced the direction where the tornado hit outside city limits. I was able to see it for about a minute before it was out of my sight range. I didn't even bother going to the bottom floor because it went the opposite directions. I do not have pictures unfortunately. However, the Greensburg tornado that happened in 2007 was very close to where I lived in Western KS. It wiped the town off the map. duckospm: one thing about your explanation on tornadoes and accepting the compliment in the next post and saying you pay attention in class. If you copy and paste your whole post about tornadoes and put it in google search, you see that it is a 100% word for word copy of the wikipedia page on tornadoes (except for the first parenthesis you use). No offense, but if you are going to try to pass other sites information as your own knowledge from paying attention in class, at least reword the text instead of copy & paste.

The reason why everyone is deathly afraid of tornadoes is due to all the scary stories they hear on the news, but I guess everyone doesn't realize that tornadoes travel in a linear path. I've never seen a tornado in real life, but it wouldn't something neat to see. Unless of course it's headed right towards me.
