So, I've been hearing theories that the Final Boss in Earthbound, Gigyas, is supposed to represent a fetus. Apparently the area that contains Gigyas resembles that of a woman's cervix, and that Ness and co. has been sent back in time to "abort" the alien menace to save the world. It sounds bogus, but I'm still uncertain.

Fetus, alien invader, or an unbodied evil consiousness? What do you guys think?

I'm not sure what a fetus has to do with anything, but I do remember hearing something like this (correct me if I'm wrong):

Young Itoi walked into the wrong movie theater, and a woman was being raped (in the movie). She said something like, "Oh no! Stop it, please!" etc., and he was inspired to make Giygas say things like that for such a reason. Why? I honestly have no idea, that's Itoi for you.

On a completely unrelated note, Shigeru Miyamoto shares the same craziness, as he named Pikmin's "Forest Navel" after a belly button. Heh.

Honestly I think it's twisted. But that's what makes it cool. A dark tone in a great game is like a Disney Movie with its dark undertones at times. You don't really intently think about it, but you can't HELP but think when its brought into the forelight. I never thought about it until my friend brought it up and since it has made me think whenever I see Gigyas.

I agree. It's something that affects both kids and adults. It's funny, with or without the fetus theory, the music and atmosphere still creeped me out A LOT, and I'm an older teenager.

I was looking up interviews of the guy before I saw this thread and yes he did see a "scary movie" in which there was a quote "graphic rape." This scarred him for life and then he created the final boss like that because of what he saw.
