Today I spent a few hours helping the community out by doing volunteer work for a few hours (6 hours). I did a lot of painting, cleaning, and many other jobs... Although I am really tired now that it is done, I really liked the idea of helping the community out I hope to do it again sometime.

So my question is:
Do you ever do volunteer work for the community?

this wasn't part of a plea bargain to keep yourself out of jail is it?!?

Today was a food drive for the entire city I live in (1 million people) that was organized and run by my church. We delivered notices and bags to everyone in the city (except apartment buildings) and picked up everything that was donated. Not sure on the totals for food but we broke a record last year for most food donated in a single day in Canada.

Yeah, I try to every weekend, even if It's only mowing some people's lawns or raking their leafs.

That's cool, community service ha. I helped a friend of mine when a tornado picked up his house.

No I don't volunteer to do it However I have been forced a few times... probably over 100 hours of it in total.

By the time it was lunch there were maggots all up in my lunch eating it

unofficial total for the food drive yesterday is $700,000 worth of food. Hopefully that'll help people suffering from the downturn of the economy get through the winter.

And shock, this was all done with a subsidy or other government assistance.

septembern : Well, I did briefly go back to my junior high school after I was in high school at the request of my junior high teacher to be her assistant three times a week, I don’t know if that would be considered helping the community or not. I have always hoped that if I were ever able to obtain some fame and or be reasonably well off financially from my work to help the community whether it is by volunteering or donating to schools or charities.

I never finished school so that is a sore issue for me even years later but I would be open to working with troubled youth if the opportunity presented itself. Although I have managed to do something with my life; it definitely wasn’t an easy road by any stretch of imagination and if I could help steer troubled youth in a positive direction I’d be all for that.

It may seem to after school special like for some but that is how I feel about it. The sad fact is that too many kids now of days are exposed to far much more than we were growing up and some thing that weren’t good for kids to do back in the day are generally accepted today and they need role models and or encouragement.

You get a feeling that cant amount to anything in the whole world after your done its great.

You need to set up a system that for each hour of TV he watches, you get one house service from him

Like jigsaw I've been forced once, 40 hrs of mowing and weedeating this 5 acre or more lot with all kinds of ponds. It was a place they were doing scientific research on them, got to help a little in that dept. too (I got to wash the plants for them). Other than that right now I don't have no time. Full time school and work is a freakin killer!!

septembern : Awesome! I love to help out my community during the cleanup events and outside. It feels good to go help out a neighbor or someone in need, even though it can really wear you out.
