Money is a great gift if the person giving the gift doesnt know you well enough to pick out something you would actually like.
I mean really, would you rather a nasty sweater you'll never wear from granny or $20 to buy something you will actually use?

Depends, money is a good gift to an adverage person as he/she couldn't care more and just buy whatever he wants.
Now when it comes to people like "people you love" or some sensitive or smart friends, they will see money as a thing of "You didn't even bother to think of the things I like". It shows that YOU don't know your good friends or lovers, it makes them heart broken, all the time you spent together, and YET you don't know what he/she wants. I say the best gift ? Is YOU SHOWING UP, it is a better gift then 5K in the mailbox. Showing up shows you care, NOT THE GIFT. personaly i would rather get money as a gift no matter the occation.Giving it as a gift is ok,but if its a gift for your girlfriend or mother or father. giving a gift that shows you know about that persons interests is the better idea. -------------------- |

Money is the best gift period, if you don't like money as a gift then you got problems  It sucks getting a gift you will never use, or is too small (clothes).
You have to think though, most gifts cost $$$$$$ so you can't be a hypocrite and say money is a bad gift when a majority of them cost money to buy
It's better to have $$$ to buy anything you want then to get a gift that your stuck with which most of the time ends up sucking anyway. < ?   ? > It sucks getting a gift you will never use, or is too small (clothes).

Yea I prefer money for the most part. Even when I tell relatives the things I would like to get, they still seem to get the wrong sizes or sometimes the wrong thing entirely. But it is pretty cool when you get a gift that you didn't ask for and its something that you really wanted. -------------------- |

When I was a kid, I'd always look for the money a few of my aunts would include in the birthday card they'd give me. I never received $100 savings bonds or anything quite so much from others for my birthday, so I appreciated the money I got more. I think that giving money as a gift can be a good thing, as long as it's not overdone or done in the wrong way. -------------------- |

It depends on what the gift is for and how you're related. For cousins, aunts, uncles, etc., money is great. For kids, parents, grandparents, etc., money is the easy way out. Get an actual gift. Among friends, you should probably get a gift rather than just pull some money out of your wallet.

Money is fine, because then you are letting the other person choose what they want for themselves. It could be misinterpreted though as the giver having a lack of willingness to spend the time to get a good gift.

I rather like getting cash as a gift. Means I get to get what i actually want instead of getting, say, that hideous fuzzy sweater Sears has been trying to get rid of since 1964. Money is a good thing, yo.
