hello people, as some of you may know from the chat room, i have gotten braces. right now, its only in the top row of teeth, but they will soon enough be on both rows at the same time. if anyone has any tips, questions, comments, feel free to post here. for the past few days, they have been very painful, but it seems now that they are getting less sensitive. i chose for them to be the color green, i will post a pic in a few days of what they look like at the moment, and the the same when both rows are covered, and if it isn't closed by then, what it looks like taken off. thank you.

I had got braces at the end of seventh grade and had them removed at the beginning of nineth grade... At first it is kinda fun, but it gets annoying to brush/rinse mouth after every meal, because food always gets stuck

Also, your braces get tightened every 6-7 weeks or so and hurt for the week or two after that (Just so you know), and when you get them out, you have to wear a retainer for 1+ years (16 months for me)

As for gum... You can chew it, but really sugary gum will get stuck all over your braces and is difficult to remove

But the bright side of having braces it that when they come out, you've made suck good habits of cleaning your teeth that you are likely to continue and keep your teeth in good condition

Mine doesn't hurt at all. My brace gets tightened every 5 weeks. No pain.

I can chew every gum I want. Eat popcorn seeds, But it doesn't break.

Their all right now. They don't hurt anymore. It was only for the first week. The only complaint I have now is that I have an over bite on my teeth, so when I completely close my mouth, it feels like I'm pushing up the part of my braces.

my dad was a navy dentist, so i got to have them for free.
whatever you do, don't get the rubber bands of the colours: yellow, white, or clear.
they WILL leave marks on your teeth, wo when you have your braces taken off they'll look like permanent yellow track marks.
i always had colours like pink, green, or blue.
braces are worth all the fuss.

AARRGGHH! I've never had to had braces. I've never even had to had any serious operation on my teeth, etc. I've been pretty blessed to escape painful circumstances. I'm also overly careful. :-)

It should get easier over time, but they can and will get very annoying. I got my braces taken off not even a month ago and I have loved it, I had them since I was 7, so for about 8 years, but they stop being annoying after a while and you barely notice them...usually.

wow! i cant imagine my braces being here for that long :O

i just got them tightened couple of days ago, they didnt hurt at all, a bit uncomfortable for 1minute, but it feels the same, doesn't hurt a bit except when the metal stabs a hole in my tongue

totally worth doing at your age. I know a few people who are getting braces done in their 20's or 30's and they are miserable with them.

And it's totally worth it in the end. Having straight teeth will help people have a better impression of you, regardless of how shallow it is.

I have never had braces, the worst my teeth has ever been is having one cavity where I needed a filling. Despite what you guys say braces still seem really painful. Luckily for me I will probabaly never have braces.

I was one of those people who followed every rule. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of gum anyway and I was ok with giving up popcorn for a little while. I would rather miss out on popcorn than have to go back to the dentist to have them reattach one of the braces and tighten them again (if one of them breaks then the tightening done to it might get undone).

When you're done with them, use the retainer they give you. If you don't your teeth will go back to they shape they were (or possibly worse). It will help in the long run.
