To me the most useless item (In my opinion) Is the Magic Powder in The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. I found no absolute use for that item but a waste of space. If any of you had any uses for it. Please share with me, because I'll keep thinking it's useless.

I have to say the sleep ability on Kirby's Adventure and Kirby's Superstar (don't know if that ability is on any other Kirby games). I hated accidentally swallowing that. You fall asleep and are unable to wake up for like 10 seconds. You don't heal while doing it, you can get hit and die while sleeping, and getting hit does not wake you up.

I would have to say the Nintendog in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Just because that thing just makes the game really hard for anyone and everyone who is playing. I hate that thing.

Natas : I don't remember exactly, but I think there's a spot in the Lost Woods where you need it (I think for a side quest) and it also has a strange affect on a few enemies. Been quite a few years since I played that one though.

Natas : If you use the Magic Powder on Anti-Fairies, a common enemy in dungeons, they turn into fairies, both providing easy and renewable health and getting rid of an otherwise invincible enemy.

Anyway, off the top of my head, the Frog Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 is the most useless powerup I can think of. It might be good for the handful of underwater levels in the game, but it actually makes Mario more difficult to control while on land. On touchy platforming stages, the extra hit won't make up for it either, as you're much more liable to fall into a pit.

An honorable mention goes to the Sleep powerup from Kirby Super Star, though, as it makes you fall asleep for a couple of seconds, and it also removes the previous power you had. The only reason I didn't choose this one, though, is that it's more of a negative status effect than it is a true powerup, even if the game treats it like any other power, so its position as a powerup is debatable.

I think is the "F" item in Contra (I don't know if that is his name...) It's that one which shoots Two fireballs in a Round shape... A big Unnecessary weapon

Magic powder is used for various handy things:

It can be used to do strange things to enemies. It's basically a one hit kill on some.

It can be used to get various other powerups, such as the powerup that reduces your magic cost by half

I think it can be used to getting at least one heart piece, I'm not too sure about this though. But it can be used for a few other secrets.

I think the most useless powerup was in Megaman Zero 3, a certain cyber elf gave you the ability to climb up ladders faster.

...You can wall jump faster then using a ladder, even with the power up. Not only that but using a cyber elf means you take a -2 points to your missions score FOREVER, even in a new game+, making it hell of a lot harder to get any other powerup in the game.

Also, there's only about maybe 6 ladders in the game that you can climb if you want to, but can be avoided just by wall jumping up which is faster anyways. There is not a single ladder that you need to grab on to at all.

Any distraction item in SSBB. The computers are totally unaffected by it, thus it only hinders YOU. Even if you're playing with someone else, it distracts you as well. It's pretty much useless.

That was the first thing that would be reasonable that came to mind.
