I second Zamiel. Biological warfare is the worst thing that man has ever made. The after affects of nuclear bombs and such are astoundingly horrific, and last for years. No man should have that much power.

I don't really think any inventions are bad. Nuclear bombs are bad, but they helped us discover the ability to use the nuclear power as an energy source. Weapons are crucial to our survival since the reason we have that meat in stores is because a weapon of some sort was used. Saying weapons are unneeded is basically saying every invention is bad, because everything you can find anywhere can usually be used to injure someone.

War in general is important to the human race because it's in our blood to wage war on those who have something we need, or are doing something we dislike. We are creatures who want more power. It's only natural to end up with people waging war. It has brought us millions of technologies we'd never have retailed to the public if not for the war that helped with finding the tech.

The only invention I can say is truly bad is lobotomy surgeries. They rarely do much good, and the good done is overshadowed by the problems the person has due to the operation.

I agree with resanub on everything and completely disagree with notjon (sorry bud) but the chinese tried to have socialism and communism and it didn't work so they had to mix some capitalism.

To a certain extent, artificial intelligence. Right now, I don't think it's too risky. But if it's developed too far, that would get very problematic. I don't like the thought of humans creating something more advanced than themselves, rendering humans obsolete. Making smart things autonomous seems like a bad idea in the long run.

As much as I love the idea of humanity researching and learning how to use AI well, I feel we aren't ready yet. We only just have been able to build a super fast supercomputer out of over a thousand PS3's or something. We have robotic dinosaurs in Japan, but they are very dim-witted in IQ.

I would link to the story I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream... But it has tons of adult content. Read at your own risk if your scared of stories about the possibility of computers being our enemy in the future. The story is about a computer who is sadistic, and torments a group of about four or five humans for the rest of eternity. One of the humans even is given arthritis at the computer's will. It's a very mature story, so be sure you aren't easily scared.

No, the game adaption of the story isn't utterly toned down. The author, Harlan Ellison, for some strange reason, helped in developing the game. He made it so that you couldn't be a hero in the game, and every ending was a bad one. The true way to beat the game is to lose, as it was made to be a game about the computer doing what appears to be common. It gives the humans adventures to go on that never lead to freedom. It's for DOS, and is a pretty hard game to get to work on a DOS emulator.

I only got the game to work by sheer luck. It's very oddly coded.

That aside, I like most inventions outside of ones that restrict humans in any way like a few I know aren't appropriate to mention. Why do I condone the discovery of nuclear power, yet hate what it was used for at first? It wasn't used right when Albert Einstein discovered it. In fact, even he discovered it only out of anger. If you know what was going on at the time, you'd understand why he was so angry. It was in the 40's, I believe.

Then we had that nuclear weapon building war. That just made what ended up being a dangerous beast that was possible to keep captive for our use look bad. We should have thought about using it as an alternative energy source.

I'm extremely hopeful when it comes to the gaining of more knowledge. If we hadn't found out we could kill early mammals, we would not be eating steaks today. If we had not advanced our war weapons... We wouldn't advance. Viruses somewhat are more of the result of retail PCs. We should have seen them coming. They now are also possible to call warnings. If you open every E-mail you get, you should have learned why not to once you got a trojan in your computer.

I guess one could call me in love with learning, and discovery. You're right. I may not show it through my grades of a C, and mostly low A's and high B's, but I'm crazy about what we'll learn next. It makes me happy to see people experimenting with possibilities. Restriction is something we aren't fully made for, and our amount of inventions shows that.

I'd probably say, out of all of them, politics. Politics has been separating us since the dawn of civilization, and it's not gonna get any better. It's the reason why we have major, blood splattering wars, the reason why deadly panic is spread amongst the world, the reason millions are poor, the reason why everyone hates each other. Politics is the Devil's weapon, to make humanity collapse. I mean, in Revelations, this Bible specifically said that we are currently in a state of absolute danger. There's so many signs that the Bible says what'll happen (and the fact that they're happening now), it's just terrifying thinking about it. I'm not trying to sound like a hippie or something, I just find that what we've created for the better will most likely tear us apart.
