Ok, so we all know that our basic 1st amendment rights have not been repealed, but is Christianity under attack in anyway shape or form? Are our 1st amendment rights in danger of being taken away?

I don't really think it's under attack.. at least not the mainstream, sane faction of Christianity....

The over-the-top groups that call themselves Christians might be.... but that's mostly because of how extreme they are.

I personally don't think the average Christian is under attack though.

I heard a pastor recently talk about statistics that show that Islamic extremists would take over America. But I don't foresee this happening without the removal of or alteration to the 2nd amendment.

EDIT: sorry 1st amendment... but the 2nd would apply as well.

geeogree : Well here's one example, I'll have to get back to you on which specific name of the case, but a child was reportedly praying over his lunch when a teacher came and removed him from the lunch room and scolded him for it. Another example would be how in Texas School officials confiscated personal bibles of kids and threatened to have Child Protective Services contacted.

I probably should have included for people not only to answer but to give their thoughts on the matter in general.

Hoochman - not trying to be a pain... but unless there is a news report verifying those stories then that's at best what they are. Not that I doubt it's entirely possible that those things happened.... but we live in an era of "pics or it didn't happen"....

tRIUNE : America doesn't have as much to worry about.... it's Europe that should be worried. I think the average muslim population is around 15% in Europe. Average.... so in some countries it's higher.... which would allow them to be their own voting block... put that percentage around 30-40% and you could elect a majority of candidates in a country and take over the political system.... not likely to happen... but possible in some places.

geeogree : No worries, you're rarely a pain to me. Unfortunately you won't find any reports like this on msnbc or any other of the mainstream media. But I do recommend Alliance Defense Fund, CBN or the ACLJ. These kind of cases are their specialty.

My high school football team got in a lot of trouble when some parents found out that a prayer was said before every game. Not because any student complained (as far as we know) but because a parent of a student saw the prayer happen and flipped out. The teacher was not a part of the prayer, it was the students that chose to do it.... but apparently an athiest parent finds it unacceptable that their son prays before a football game so that no one gets hurt....

See these kind of stories count. I really should have been more specific. Little individual cases like this count as well.

Well regarding a particulate to the 1st amendment, from what I understand a bill was passed recently that prohibits any pastors to teach against homosexuality, and now is an arrestable offense.

tRUINE: I heard about this bill. More specifically I'm pretty sure if a homosexual is listening to a sermon against homosexuality he can call the cops and say there's hate speech going on, either that or if a homosexual is beaten up for being gay by someone from the church it can become illegal to preach against homosexuality. Either way the bill is kind of complicated.

do you have a link to a source anywhere? Stories like that get spread but without any proof or report or something to back it up.... I'm sure you get what I'm saying.

If I read what you were saying hoochman then I would assume that it would apply to any person speaking against homosexuality... cause if it only targets Christians then it goes against the constitution as I understand it.

Well geeo if they really want to defend gays than it needs to be specified what cannot be said such as "homosexuals need to die" or anything such as that.

Of course it is especially online. 2 places I know of specifically are AOL and Yahoo. I have found both of those places either pump out articles making them look like wacko nut jobs or you will usually see 10,000 + comments with hatred towards christians on Yahoo. In real life though I think the Christians are overwhelming or Catholics I really don't know how to tell a Christian church apart from a Catholic church but I see them every few blocks here. There numbers are very strong so I don't think of them as under much attack yet.

There are a lot more different groups or religions who get bashed much worse in real life. When Christians are labeled as "terrorists" then I would consider Christians under major attack. That wont happen though because no one would believe it.

If I was a christian I would spend time researching project blue beam that is your biggest threat right now. You don't have to believe it but I would definitely read about it so you at least know if it comes in your life time.

Well yeah that's an epitome of attack. But it all boils down to the faith you have in your relationship with God. I haven't heard otherwise as of yet, and opinions differ, but I believe there is no clear understanding in regard to the events surrounding the rapture; whether we will be taken directly before the events of the tribulation, or shortly into it.


EDIT: If anyone is familiar with the different views of when the rapture will occur, there are pre-, mid-, and post-tribulation rapture views. I have a strong understanding in a pre-tribulation rapture. I don't want to be subjected to any part of the tribulation and the Bible is clear in it's presentation of the pre-tribulation rapture. But what I am saying, just my personal thought and probably a wrong one at that, is the possibility of us going 'briefly' into the tribulation before the rapture; not to be confused with to the middle of it.

Concerning the first amendment...I find it interesting that President Obama recently started using the term "freedom of worship" rather than "freedom of religion".

I agree, they have already displayed their position in regard to the 1st amendment, here is one example of their disregard to religion in attacking the rudiment of Christianity by prohibiting the public display of the Ten Commandments.

That's some crazy stuff. From what I here, the ACLU actually looks for cases against religion and not just defends.
