Cause the Bible says so.
I'm not trying to be an ass.... but that's what it boils down to in my opinion for most Christians. I'm not trying to be an ass.... but that's what it boils down to in my opinion for most Christians. -------------------- |

gatorfan15 : The followers of other religions all have their own ways of dealing with sin, in which they believe will make them acceptable to God. What sets Christianity apart from all others is that it's written that Jesus said, "I have the power to forgive sins." No other religious leader has ever said this. So when I say the other religions have their various ways to remove sin, the Christian Bible outweighs the others because it reads: by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, for fear that any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8 & 9). The awesomeness of this statement is that as a Christian you come to God as you are and His Spirit will do the work in you. In a nutshell Christianity states that heaven is free because Jesus already paid the price for our sins. So Jesus says "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). Again, no other religious leader has ever made this claim. -------------------- |

Let's see this topic from a more historic view:
(this means that I'm not expressing any religion beliefs here or something like that, but I only quote all the things that our tutors told us about this topic at university.) It's not only Christianity, but almost all the monotheistic religions are considering themselves as the only one true religion of the universe. According to my history tutor, the monotheistic religions act like that, because they are created when the leaders wanted the absolute coherence in their empires, in order to convince people to die for their beliefs(in those beliefs, the leader was sent by God, and the leader's demands were inspired by God). This way, they could manipulate their people easier and better. This role of the monotheistic religions is in force till today, partially. So I think that this could be a good explanation(from the historic view) to your question

yeah i agree with you mostly noelia. i just find it hard to believe that ONE religion out of the many that have existed and exist to this day is the one correct answer. I've also heard from multiple accounts that christianity is nearly an exact plagiarism of an ancient egyptian religion that worshipped the sun. i don't know how true this is, i haven't done my research, but has anyone else heard this? -------------------- |

gatorfan15 : I think tRIUNE's post is well stated. Even if there is a religion that looks very similar to Christianity, only Christianity states the forgiveness of sins is a gift from God through His own sacrifice and resurrection, and not by our merit and good deeds, because no one is good enough to go to heaven by their own good works. In fact, no one is even good.
This understand gives a different motivation of doing good works between Christianity and others religions. People from other religions do good deeds to either earn a reputation or to earn a certain salvation/paradise, while Christians do good deeds to show the world the aftermath of the salvation they already have. gatorfan15 : Well, I don't know much about your new question.
But I know that the reall day that Jesus was born, was during Spring (it is implied by the narration), but Orthodoxs (I don't know about Catholics) are celebrating it on December 25th. The ancient religions, who worshiped the Sun, was celebrating sun's birth on December 25th, as well. So, it said that the Orthodox did that, in order to show to non-believers, that Jesus for a Christian, is as important as the Sun for a non-christians. That is all I know about this topic. If I found out something more in my library, I'll let you know. If someone disagree with that or know something more about it, please feel free to correct any mistakes, that I possibly did

noelia : How do you know that it was during Spring though? Note that this was in Bethlehem. It's not the same as some places where it snows in December and stuff like that. Where'd you hear about that anyway lol.
As for the original topic, the thing is, there has to be one religion right and the others wrong. The other religions' beliefs can't coexist. It's not going to work out. Like noelia said, all religions would say that theirs is right and the others is wrong. Think of it this way. Just because someone believes something isn't true, doesn't mean it's not true right? So if Christianity was true, and the other religions still don't believe in it, that doesn't make Christianity wrong. And I've never heard of your whole Egyptian religion thing. But the fact is that the ancient Egyptians were mainly polytheistic. They believed in many gods. They had a sun god, but they had others for lots of other stuff too. Christianity doesn't mix with polytheism either. There is only one God. So it's very unlikely that ancient Egyptians were the first to "come up with Christianity." mdynasty926 : Our religion teacher told us that, when I was in high school. She also mentioned some evidences and told us also all I've mentioned about the December 25th.
I don't remember exactly (I heard that 6 years ago!), but I think it has to do with something that it's mentioned about the baby animals that the sheeps has, when the angel told the sheepherderer about Jesus birth. So, it is known that sheeps give birth during Spring, but never during December! But I don't insist much on it, because as I've already mentioned, I heard that thing 6 years ago and I don't remember it well. I wish I could found my religion teacher, she could probably tell you more about this topic

mdynasty926 : She was neither talking about the little kind of stable that Jesus was born nor about manger. But about the place where the sheepherderers, where because they have to keep an eye on their sheeps. Then an angel shown up to them and told them that Jesus was born.
Besides, as far as I know, none of the sheepherderers hold their sheeps outside during a winterly night, because it's too cold, even if there isn't any snow. Anyway, I don't think that we have to discuss more about it here, because this isn't relevant with this thread's topic

noelia : Buuuutttt like I said before, the climate is significantly warmer, so it wouldn't be that odd to have sheepherding during the wintertime. The sheep aren't baby sheep though haha.

well also, christianity's been around for i think around 2000 years, but mankind has been around for 10's of thousands of years at least, so what happened to all the men that died before christianity came into existence? did they all go to hell? -------------------- |

I say it does simply because history supports what is said in the bible plus the prophecies fulfilled is a good indicator. -------------------- |
