I've noticed that there isn't actually that many views of the rules of some forums, and
then huge amounts of views and posts for other threads.

For example, there's been 489 users to post in the last 30 days, and I know that not all of them
are still active and posting, but they still should've read the rules. The "regarding ask
anything threads" in the post about yourself forum has only 91 views, and I notice that
every couple of days someone tries to open a new one without following the instructions in
the thread.
The rules for crazy house have 420 views, and 194 for the new rule.

This all got me wondering, do any of you actually read the rules before you post?
I guess that the people who don't might not hone up to it, but for new people to this site
who maybe read this, did you read the rules first or just go looking for threads?

I'm not trying to be a downer or mean or "EVERYONE READ THE RULES NOW" or anything, I'm
just genuinely curious since there's such a huge difference between the views for every
thread compared to the rules. I know that it counts again each time we go back to the
thread, but I've gone to the rules more than once so maybe that balances it out a bit.

I bet 90% + never read the rules. Do you read the rules when signing up for myspace or facebook? Probably not, no one reads rules they just want to get in on the action There really is no way around it unless it is in form of a quiz, like the newbie quiz

I'll admit, I don't.

I don't need to, cuz I hear about the rules before they even BECOME rules. For example: The ask anything rule DID NOT become an actual public notice until I myself tried to post an ask anything thread about Zelda (it hasnt been trashed yet, look for it!) and broke that rule. Almost immediately afterwards it became a notice to everybody and caused all the others to be closed as well. And duh, yes I feel terrible for what I did. And the other rules that were created were already mentioned to the staff in the restricted forums, so I expected them to be brought up to the public as well. It was just a matter of time...

So no I don't read the rules, I know of about five rule posts and I'll admit I only read one of em. (The ask anything rule, just so I could grieve Lol) The games in the crazy house are self-explanatory if you pay attention to what people are talking about. Lol no rule-reading necessary.

And Jig: I read all the rules before I even knew the newbie quiz existed. I remember actually having to search for that quiz out of curiosity. I read the facebook rules too though. Lol. I'm just different, I guess.

When I first came on vizzed I read the general rules.
But I admit that I only sometimes read some forums' rules.

So I'm very confused. Have you or haven't you?

And BTowns: While it's true that most people don't read the rules, remember that the who do will read the rules once at the beginning and never again. However they may look at a specific post 4 of 5 times as new replies are added. That is yet an other reason why there is such a difference in view count.

When I started porting I tried to read and follow the rules of each forum as best I could. But, though I know that I've made some mistakes, I've never just ignored the rules, and it kind of bugs me when I see the people who obviously haven't the slightest clue what even the general rules are, let alone the forum specific rules.

I think I've read basically all the rules because I've helped write some of them and the others I've looked at in order to update them so they are as good as possible.

But otherwise I generally don't read the rules. The rules are 90% the same at most places so there is little need read them most of the time.

I read some of them when I first registered to the site and pretty much learned the rest along the way. My first intention of joining vizzed was to just play the games but then I learned how awesome some of the people were and what not, and wanted to make something more of myself on the site. I generally follow the rules but make mistakes here and there but who doesn't? Well I voted for There's Rules??? just because no one will prolly vote for that and I thought it would be funny so I guess I spam voted, lol.

WHAT?! There are rules? Why didn't anyone tell me! This is an outrage!

But seriously, what are these 'rules' in which you speak of?

Well breaking the rules and trying to get people to not obey them but in all honesty there are things that people can do that is against the rules that are okay as long as they accept the sanctions they will receive so well as long as you accept the sanctions it is near enough okay as long as you accept the consequence.

I wish I were a cop and I knew where you lived.... I would just follow you around waiting for you to commit a crime that you figured you could endure the consequences of.

Plus, you don't actually know the consequences of breaking the rules.... repeat offenders are dealt with more harshly.... and depending on the mod you get you'll get a worse punishemnt.

Shane, there are some where geeogree sent the link to, those are the general rules. But the
ones with a view count like I was referring to are at the top of some forums in a sticky.

Yes, I have read the rules. If you do not, bad things could happen. As I have learned, you should read up once every two months.

I generally don't read the rules because for the most part they are just common sense. If I have something I'm not sure about I'll skim through them.

I personally don't care for rules.

I post as I want to post until action is taken against me.

When action is taken against me I take it to heart (most of the time) and try to tone down on that part.

And then I post as I want to post with small changes.

Repeat until leave or permaban.

Works well so far. Also helps that I don't post like all to much of an ass.

Personally, I didn't either. But I still try not to open up threads that are open. Or do something that is very general knowledge[i.e spam a thread for post counts,Open up multiple threads asking a question that can be found in the FAQ or in another thread.] but I still have mishaps of course[three threads in the trash can and probably more to come]. But many do not even think and just want answers now so half of the time they just post what they are thining and worry about rules later..
