What is your favorite game that came out the year you were born?

You can look up the games that came out the year you were born from the provided links below. I've also put together links that showcase games that came out each year according to Vizzed. Just keep in mind that the years on Vizzed isn't going to show a complete list of games, and in some cases, it might show the wrong game.

For me, it's definitely Super Mario Bros. for the NES. It was the very first game I've played and has always been among my top 5 favorite games of all time. It's a game I never get bored of and use to speed run all the time.

Ngl 2001 didn't have that many great hits for me but of my options that I've played of Ace Attorney, Final Fantasy X, and Sonic Adventure 2, I think I'll go with I'll say Sonic Adventure 2 but not by much I don't think SA2 is the best 3D Sonic by any means it's actually not even top 3 for me and I vastly prefer 3D Sonic over 2D but I think SA2 is overrated I don't find the mechs or the treasure hunting all that fun unless I mod it so that the radar works like SA1 but the Sonic and Shadow levels are great for the most part I really wanted to 100% the game but after realizing steam cloud saves don't work on it after getting a new pc that's probably never happening.

Wow, never thought about this but I think I can say I was born in probably a miraculous year for videogames. There were so many releases that I can barely list all of the ones I've played or that I know something about.

Many franchises or subfranchises started their path that year, like Art of Fighting, Kirby's Dreamland, Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Kart. Other legendary franchises also got releases that year like Contra, Fatal Fury, Final Fantasy, Mega Man and even Sonic the Hedgehog, almost right after its debut the previous year.

Not sure if I missed any from that list, but I must say I'm kind of torn between Super Mario Kart and Kirby's Dreamland. I did play the last one when I owned a GameBoy before switching to its sequel, which I poured a lot more hours into, while I only played SMK at my cousin's house in the scarce occasions we visited my uncles. Based on that, and given how I never got to play Mario Kart on my own until Double Dash, I should say Kirby.

I guess the top 3 would be closed by Sonic 2, I remember it being my access to the blue hedgehog's world and I sticked to it through my starting steps in Dreamcast. Quite a fancy top 3 from a spectacular year, even if franchises released games more consecutively than nowadays.

I can't decide between Mario Kart 64 and Sonic & Knuckles being my favorite. I played both, and really enjoyed both games.

I have played Sonic & Knuckles way before i got interested in playing MK64, maybe even have more playtime for it as well. I'm more of a fan of mario kart now than before. I played MK64 for the first time i can remember back in 2018 after watching videos of speedrunners play the game.

I would say Sonic & Knuckles is more of my favorite from 1997.

The only game that I really cared for that came out the year I was born was Final Fantasy VI and I wouldn't even call it one that I love since I haven't put too much time into it.

Mine would have to be Super Mario Bros and the Oregon Trail. I can remember when I was 3 years old getting the Nintendo Entertainment System Before then I was playing breakout on the Atari. Super Mario Bros was included for my NES. I found out it came out 3 years earlier a few months after I was born. When I got to school I played the Oregon Trail a lot.

I was checking a few, and since Xenogears barely misses the cut off (very late 1998), I'll have to instead go with Crash Team Racing on September 30th 1999. By far my favorite racing game (as I recently stated in another thread) and one that I'll probably be playing for the rest of my life.

For some honorable mentions though I do also really like Smash 64 and Pokemon Yellow (NA launch).

eeek, 1983 is a long time ago to try and talk about video games. There were plenty but we're looking at Atari and Commodore 64 games as options.

I do remember playing Q-bert, Pole Position, Mario Bros and Pressure Cooker as a kid (we had an Atari and then an NES later on).

However, if I had to pick a favorite I'd probably go with Frogger. Such a classic game.

Lol, besides Mario Bros, poor Geeo is basically stuck with Pong, haha.

1998 was a pretty stacked year for video games. In fact, one could argue that it was THE year for video games. Many iconic, critically acclaimed games and series we know and love today came out in 1998. Pokémon Red/Blue, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, and Half-Life, to name a few...

Probably a boring answer given the titles I've listed, but I have to go with Ocarina of Time on N64, closely followed by Pokémon Red/Blue.

Again, 1998 was a truly amazing year for video games. Given the state of gaming today, with many new titles getting bigger and more ambitious, we're in the era of game sequels taking 80 years to release (looking at you Kingdom Hearts 3, Metroid Prime 4, and GTA 6...), or launching in an unfinished, half-baked state, with cut content releasing months or years later in the form of overpriced DLC (standard practice with basically every Pokémon game nowadays...). I could go on, but what I'm getting at is that I sometimes wish the gaming world could go back to the late 90s/early 2000s before stupid subscription models, game key cards, and the imminent completely digital future where you own nothing became the norm. Blech.
