so up here in Canada Corus Entertainment has made some decisions that I am not a fan of with their youth aimed channels, first earlier this year Teletoon was rebranded into Cartoon Network Canada full time (and the Cartoon Network Canada that already existed became Boomerang....something I would have welcomed 15 years ago back when the network was airing Retro stuff and not reboots of retro shows, which is funny because the old Cartoon Network Canada actually was Teletoon Retro) which kind of upset me because I had such nostalgia for it's good old days that it was practically a full time staple at least until I was a teenager

I was so upset I wrote a eulogy for Teletoon to see it click on this link https://twitter.com/theRealiHeart/status/1640064928676708353

and just recently I found out that YTV is no longer doing the Zone which was an after school block since at least the early 90s (heck a couple of years ago they actually did a 90s throwback bit, they even invited one of the old Zone hosts back for it and it brought such a tear to my eye seeing PJ Phresh Phil on YTV again), want to know how serious this is? YTV isn't acknowledging it's 35th anniversary unlike Family (originally Family Channel, which was the Disney Channel equivalent)

I had recently brought up how Teletoon and Labour day was a major event on the network and how one little cold changed what I wanted from TV, and well it wasn't just that weekend, YTV had changed up it's format the Keep it Weird brand scared me off and I slowly weaned myself off of YTV and watched Teletoon full time, but not before watching Stickin Around end and getting a chance to be on Uh Oh (as a slime tour spectator, it's better than nothing) granted a majority of the shows YTV picked up that year was stuff I had no interest in seeing (but I think Global TV may have lost the rights to most of the kids block at the time which could explain why all of a sudden they were airing Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, in fact I'm 100% sure that in 1998 my affiliate CKND became Global full time)

basically I don't think I want Hallmark or VH1 to come here that badly (especially since the celeb-reality era of VH1 is long gone and it took one a-hole to ruin it) or even MeTV (I mean they gotta air more than just Due South and Littlest Hobo Reruns which is ironic the latter is airing on CTV again, but I'd rather watch Hudson and Rex)

Granted I'm in the United States. I used to sometimes watch Cartoon Network and later Boomerang. Mainly because they aired the Loony Toons and Pink Panther two of my favorite cartoons. However, I stopped watching them because they started airing cartoons I did not know. They stopped airing the oldies which is what made them famous and popular.

Being from the 80's I can tell you, you do not want VH1 or MTV to come to Canada. Here in the states its complete rubbish. VH1 and MTV in the 80's and most of the 1990's played music videos. After all that is what they where famous for. They also had music shows like VH1 had its oldies show, pop show, rock shows where they played music videos. However, over the past 15 years both channels just have reality TV shows. Last time I watched them it was reality TV nothing that has anything to do with music. Chances are it would not be any different in Canada.

Well that was part of my point and Granted Much and Much More Music kind of acted as a Canadian alternate for MTV and VH1 (with MMM airing most of the latters stuff, I really did enjoy Pop Up Video and the Surreal Life)

classgame: Pop up video was nice. I remember that here in the states they would pop up facts at the bottom of the screen. Facts such as who wrote the song and the songs chart on the top 40.

well I do know that YTV is going to be safe for at least a year otherwise CORUS wouldn't have issued a press release revealing everything that YTV will be airing this fall, but since the Zone is gone god knows what will happen next

If they can cancel Johnny Test that be a good thing for the youth and the name rebranding of Teletoon. We’ve suffered enough from that show. That’s all I’m saying

I've always felt that Johnny Test supplied the first nails for Teletoon's coffin (I always considered Johnny Test to be a second rate Dexter's Laboratory with the roles reversed though granted Susan and Mary Test were easier to tolerate), 2005 was the year they opted to have sneak previews rather than the usual Labour Day premieres. But yeah come 2005 the lineup started to suck, but at that point I spent more time watching CNN and MuchMoreMusic even though I made sure I watched new episodes of 6teen.
