In my case, I would probably have to say Tokyo, Japan. Like a lot of people on here, I was always a bit of a Japanophile when I was younger, and really wanted to go there for that reason. I finally got my chance after graduating high school. Ended up having a really fun time overall, although I wasn't there long. There was so much to see and discover. It's a place that manages to feel both very familiar and different to a westerner at the same time. Some of my highlights included:

- Mistaking an umbrella wrapping machine for a trash can
- Beating a martial arts instructor at the original Street Fighter while at a bar
- Getting weirdly addicted to the arcade games only to get completely dunked on by some professional players
- Watching Japan play during the 2018 WC in football while at a sports bar and soaking in the atmosphere
- Eating lots of ramen and sushi (it was WAY better than all of the places at home)
- Buying a PS Vita and playing Persona 4 Golden

I really want to go again within a few years, because there were a ton of things I never got to do.

Having said that there are also a ton of countries and places I haven't been to, and I'm sure some of them would amaze me even more. Which is part of the reason I made this thread (to get some travel inspiration). Would love to hear about some of your favorite places!

I have traveled to a few places.

My favorite was Denver Colorado. The place I worked for at that time sent us to a conference in Denver. I got to attend. It was amazing. We stayed in Boulder but the conferences took place in Denver. It was awesome. What I liked was the weather. It was June and every day we had thunderstorms. It was nice to see the thunderstorms develop over the Rocky Mountains and drift into the high plains. One day we even had tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings. I also got to go to the weather lab in Boulder that was a treat since I'm a meteorologist. Another highlight of the trip the director found out I was a Colorado Rockies fan. It turns out the Rockies were fixing to open a home stand at Coors Field. The next to last night I got to go to Coors Field. Got to see some of my favorite Rockies players play. In addition, the ball really carries at Coors there was 5 home runs hit in the game.

Another favorite place I got to go too was Gulf Shores Alabama. My dad's employer sent him to a conference in Gulf Shores Alabama. He got to take me and my mom with him. It was good. I got to see thunderstorms develop over the Gulf of Mexico and move in. The restaurants were amazing. One night it stormed and we had tornado warnings. We ate at one of the restaurants in the motel. They put us in the son room and it was nice to see the rain and lightning light up the sky. We also went to see Mobile Bay and visit Batleship Alabama that was a treat.

Months later my dad's employer sent him Columbus Ohio. Now Columbus Ohio is a big city but it was just that. The highlight was on the way back home, we stopped in Cincinnati for awhile. Cincinnati was the highlight. I got to see Great American Ballpark and visit the Reds Gift Shop. It was late fall so baseball was not going on.

My favorite of favorites is a place that is in East TN. Being in East TN this place is not that far from me. But it is our annual vacation spot. The place Gatlinburg TN. Gatlinburg TN is special for me. The mountains are pretty especially in the fall. During the late spring and summer Storms often develop on the Mountains and can drift down into the city. In addition, there are lots of vintage shops that carry vintage things. There is lots of steakhouses, and other types of restaurant. A lot of the stores are in walking distance.

Anyway these are the places I have been too that I really enjoyed.

I've been to a few places and my favorite is still Germany. Not sure if its because I've been several times there, its culture, its gastronomy or whatever, but it just picks my interest anytime to go there.

Our first trip was to see my favorite band in concert, so obviously I have that one in high regards specially because that band has never come to Spain on an official tour. But even if this was the first of several trips there, the one that tops the list is the one we did to Cologne.

We made a stop at Nurburg, which is famously known for its racing circuit, the Nordschleife. We got a taxi to give us a lap around the 20+ km long facility (almost 13 miles, for those more familiar with those units), and it was spectacular. Close to 10 minutes of pure action, just like the videogames show it, and an atmosphere at the small village that is unmatchable anywhere. In a few years time it will be the 100th anniversary of the facility, so maybe I can expect a return there if things go right.

In Cologne, we got to see its equally spectacular cathedral, the Dom. It stands above anything else in the city with an imposing figure while being equally majestic from the inside and the outside. We could enter it and get up to its highest point, and the views were astonishing.

Another interesting visit was its chocolate museum, which is also a showroom for the successful Lindt brand. On one hand, the museum shows the story of chocolate and other curious facts about this sweet delicacy; on the other hand, Lindt has installed a 3-meter tall chocolate fountain where a worker dips wafers to offer to the visitors and they also have a mini-factory that allows you to create your own chocolate bar to take as memento of the visit.

These highlights, and many other things that happened (and some I could have even forgotten), make it by far my favorite trip ever. Even without the Nurburg part, it's definitely one I'd repeat even if I've already done there everything that could interest me.

Other honorable mentions include Drammen, in Norway, we traveled to watch the ski flying competition held there every March. The first year we saw two world records being beaten, the second one we had snow everywhere in a layer reaching the average adult's knees or higher. And I can't forget Geneva, I mostly remember the Auto Show that is immense but I'm sure I could have done more things there.

Another trip I have to repeat is London. We couldn't get to see everything we wanted when we went there, so it's been more of a decade waiting to complete that list. Specially we missed on visiting Wimbledon because of a scheduling conflict, and I definitely want to go there.

I've also gone to places at the local level, like Valencia, Granada and Galicia, and while all of those trips were interesting (I'll go to Valencia again in three months, in fact) they lack a bit the beauty of foreign land, so to speak. There's definitely a change wherever you go, but not as noticeable when you cross borders and so my mind doesn't treasure those memories at the same level.

Of the places I haven't been to, I also want to visit Japan even if it's just once. I also want to properly visit Italy, it's a shame that so far everything I've done in Italy is taking a taxi to cross the border to Slovenia because its airports don't accept international flights xD

Well, I've never been to the Eastern part of Canada, I've been as far east as Kenora, Ontario, as far west as Kelwona BC and as North as Yellowknife Northwest Territories (though too young to remember it), I want to see the parts of Newfoundland where Hudson and Rex were filmed and yeah even I kind of want to see Gander Newfoundland (I don't know if it's a major tourist stop but the place is famous because of a story about how the town took in people on 9/11) if you watch You Are Here then you'll get the full story (Come From away just tells a bit of it)

I've not gotten to travel much as I've only been out of Ohio once for a day in my entire life but there are lots of places I wanna go both in the states and internationally.

The one and only time I've ever left Ohio I went to Pennsylvania to see Fyredove back in 2019 as my grandpa called me the day before he left to go drive his 4 wheeler on some hills that he wished that he knew she lived so close to where he was going and at that moment my brain instantly was set on going so I figured out everything I needed to quickly to make it happen since it was Fyre's birthday while I was there. It was a pretty interesting time I had to go to an interview with her and a dr appointment cause it was so last minute but I didn't really mind at the time. We also saw Avengers End Game while I was there and it was a really long movie and I had no idea going into it lol. The 2nd day I was there we went to an amusement park and I got to ride a rollercoaster for the first time ever it was a wooden one and man I felt like I was gonna fly out of my seat so many times. Here's an embarrassing photo from the trip because why not.
On the way through Pennsylvania, there was this town in a valley that I couldn't see any roads to or from I'd love to someday go back to PA to figure out how on earth one gets to that town.

There are a bunch of places I would only go to see friends or in some cases, I would have to have a friend with me cause I don't speak the language but I think I would enjoy going sightseeing if the occasion ever arises.

As for a city I wanna visit regardless of anyone being there, I know I wanna visit London which I never learned anything about until Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games of all things lol but between back then and now I've seen it covered it all sorts of different games and media to the point where I can't really explain it but I really feel like I need to visit it at least once.

tornadocam : Seeing as Columbus is the city I was born in I feel the need to stick up for the city, just driving through Columbus is pretty meh but there are things to do in the city. For example this might not be as appealing for an adult without a kid with them but I love Cosi I have no idea if it's a thing outside of Columbus but it's basically a science museum and I went a ton of times as a kid it was such a cool experience when I was younger I've got to make time to return sometime soon if I do maybe I'll update my post to say if it's worth going as an adult. It's been years since I've been but I have fond memories of the Columbus zoo as well, I didn't even know Columbus had an art museum and several other things too but I've not been to those so I'm not going to recommend them.

I've barely traveled in the past decade or so, but when I was younger our family would go out all over the place. One that's always stuck in my mind and is something that I will remember for the rest of time was when we met a family of ours when I was but 5 years old. We went to a small town in Mississippi to meet up with family members. One of them was getting married and we got to stay at their place.

We walked into their pretty sweet apartment complex and this place was a lot bigger in the inside then it looked on the outside. The town was a smaller one too and all the iconography that was there was extremely memorable, such as the Burger shop with this mascot character that stood outside of the restaurant. There were other types of fascinating places that you wouldn't really see in a big city or anything.

They also had a Gamecube and the guy who was getting married would play me in Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Golf Toadstool Tour all the time, and even got to know the guy better and all. It was such a fantastic experience I had that too this day still is imprinted in my brain. Too bad I don't remember where it was we stayed at was but I am fairly certain if I walked into that town again I would immediately know it just from the layout of shops alone.

Though if you are wanting a Place I could fully remember by heart, It was when I went to Louisiana for the first time with my deadbeat dad in Prarieville. My Grandma loves my dad and all and while I legitimately never cared for him, he is my birth father and still respect him at least to that degree. Not even my Step Father who Married my mom could even stay around before noping out of the family's existence.

So my dad had a really nice place up down in Louisiana, Huge Shower, massive Pool, 3 Wide Screen TVs, Current Game Consoles, and a Water Bed. I'm sure you get the gist, he was loaded. I kinda didn't really wanna be around my dad or anything cause like I honestly didn't really even get to know him before he left us and I was like 3, but will admit I did enjoy being at the place regardless.

I remember when we went out a few times for Dinner and he knew really nice Chinese places and all, the food was fantastic. The service was amazing. He even Took time out of his week to try and take us out for other stuff like going to the Zoo or Seeing some of the attractions.

While I still think my Blood Dad's an ass who should of never left my mom, I at least got to mooch off him for the entire week and that still is one of my fondest memories lmao.

SonicOlmstead : I think it was just because we did not have a lot of time to do things. We did go to one of the malls there that was fun. Had we had more time to explore I would probably have a lot more to say about it. One thing that was crazy. Is on the first night we had severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings around us. The next day as we were leaving. The Weather Service was forecasting 4-6 inches of snow. The temp went from 68-70 down to 32 degrees.

I was reading trying to make sure that it meant Europe or worldwide. I’ll stick with Europe since it’s in a European thread.

One place I would like to travel is Spain. Spain is such a beautiful place on paper and being a Real Madrid and a Real Sociedad fan. I would love to visit some of the territories of the country, mostly the Basque region with Bilbao and such and just learn more of the rich history this country can offer.
