Something I've wanted to do for a while now is change the color scheme of the site. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about the layout of the site, that'd be too much work. I'm talking about the colors used throughout the site and the background images.

I've made attempts in the past to modernize the look of the site but I've always had users fight back. I think now is the time to do it though since the site needs to have a more visual appeal to new people. The current theme would always be available as a selectable theme.

As far as the color scheme goes, what are complaints that you or others might have about it? What are you suggestions? I know a common complaint is that the site is sometimes hard on a user's eyes and I'm not sure if it's because it's light on dark or if it's the greens contrasting with the blues. Either way, any feedback would be great.

Vizzed 2022 Theme

With that new theme, the background color is actually not part of the background image, allowing me to easily change the color (or perhaps dynamically, similar to what was seen in the 2022 April Fools prank).

I don't expect to have the popular opinion here but I really don't like the plain background though I don't like the 2016 one either I much prefer the 2014 background which was mostly blue but I find a lot more appealing to look at which can be seen herehttps://www.vizzed.com/u/theme.php?id=113

Now to try and guess what other people would like more I imagine most people would prefer the background you have for the 2022 design with a black color scheme for a minimalist design I think most people use dark mode on sites that have it I'm not really sure what color people would like instead of the green if you went black so I'll let others suggest something when it comes to that.

Edit I just realized I forgot to say I think most people's issue is the blue green combo.

I mean the issue here is more so with the veterans here, we are so inclined to hold on to the past where change doesn’t seem like an option to us. Others we don’t really care honestly.

For this scheme I mean little darker shade, well on mobile doesn’t seem too bad. Definitely a bit easier on the eyes of that was the complaint but I do agree with sonic about the blue green combo. Can’t really do much to change that when I always felt like those were the site’s official color (or how I interpret it at least)

I think for me what seemed hard on the eyes was mostly the background pattern that was added in the 2016 theme. I also always liked the Christmas theme more and I tend to use that one all the time now. That's probably because I joined the site around Christmas in the first place so it's what I got used to early on. I do usually tend to choose a dark mode if available on anything I use these days though. The new theme is a step in the right direction I think. The more muted tone is much easier on the eyes and the pattern isn't so rough.

Davideo7 : I personally never had any problems with the colour scheme, but that's just me speaking for myself as I am quite aware that it's different for other people. If you believe it is best to change the theme to have a broader appeal for others who use the site then feel free to do so, it is your site after all!

I don't personally have a particular issue with the themes that have popped up. I do agree with SonicOlmstead that the background used in the 2014 theme is much easier on the eyes, though, and never was personally a fan of the Christmas theme.

For me, if you do change the theme, I would prefer to at least keep blue as a color theme. If that were lost, I would feel like Vizzed has lost a bit of its uniqueness. Don't visit many other sites that keep to a blue color theme, and I like blue.

becerra95 : I'm with you here: if anything, it feels like the blue and green are the official colors. I've never really noticed a change in colors, and I think I started using the site in 2008? Maybe 2010? It was sometime in High School.

Point is, I don't have any issues with the theme. I do like the Christmas theme when it pops up, though, but that's moreso a nice change of pace feel to it.

If I was force to make a complaint, it's the tile look in the background. That never made much sense to me, with the green, and the two or three different shades of blue. Also, the light green for clickable hyperlinks has always felt a little too bright, but like bec said, it feels like it's the official colors of the site.


Allysa8th : I think I also agree with you a bit here. I don't really know why the side menus are semi-opaque, but the rest of the background is tiled. I will say that looking at all the green hyperlinks in the semi-opaque menus is a lot easier to look at the tiled background.

I just want a dark mode with muted blacks and greys. I'm sure that's not the standard opinion, but many sites can detect if your device has dark or light mode on and change schemes accordingly. I believe some also do such based on the time of day on your device/account, when activated in settings anyway.

Davideo7 : I think it'd be great to have multiple themes available to choose from. Through the years I was blown away that there were only two options... Christmas or Vizzed. Both of which aren't my fav.

On top of redesigning, even adding more would be great.

imo - you should modernize everything dude. The redirect URLs, big notifications, etc. should be removed and replaced with a more intuitive and UI-Friendly design, but at the same time keeping the legacy layout of vizzed.

Davideo7 : I unironically think the white and grey theme you did during April fools looked good. (I recorded it on 12:23 AM 4/2/2022 to be specific, with how you changed it throughout the day and all.)

How about different themes? Unless this site is completely built from scratch. There should the option to change the theme. There may even be some pre-built ones.

But this of course is probably outdated information on my part. I haven't messed with coding especially on any Forum. In almost a decade.

Davideo7 : If I'm being honest here, I do not see anything needing to change, but that is just me though. However, now that I think about it, I think an ability should exist; being able to customize the site in your own view (example: color schemes, etc.)
