I know people probably have their opinions about the Olympics considering that they have been tainted by a doping scandal here, a bribery scandal there, and the reluctance to cancel (it's understandable why they won't though). But maybe this is what we need to bring the world together right now right when we really need it, though we probably won't get the majesty of what went on in 2016, damn you pandemic (yeah remember the Zika virus? whatever happened to that? wish COVID could have gone away that easily) I mean sure I'm not going to expect another tie for first in Women's Swimming (would be nice to see that repeat though)

Right now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Canada will have just as good a showing as they did in 2016 because...we're better at the Winter games than we are at the Summer games (and the medal haul from 2018 proves it) but 2016 had Team Canada's best Olympics in 20 years.

Personally I will try and watch, I mean for sure I will be expecting an awesome opening ceremony, I can see so many video game or anime references infused in their ceremony. Though I think most of it will be airing while most of us are asleep.

So are you watching or skipping?

Oh yeah I forgot all about the Olympics being a thing my only real experience with trying to watch them being I wanted to see if during one of the winter Olympics if the athlete I met at diabetes camp was competing cause basically the guy was in position where he might of won a gold medal during some kind of race? (I really know nothing about winter olympics) and his sugar went low and he crashed but he ate something to get his sugar back up and finished the race but of course no longer had any good placement so I wanted to see that guy win but I don't think he was able to qualify again he was definitely at the age where he wasn't likely to be able to do it much longer so I guess he didn't make it which is really an unfortunate end to his career if that's right. To get back on topic of this upcoming Olympics I think I heard back in 2019 that Goku was supposed to be like a Olympic mascot for it so maybe I'll watch the opening ceremony or something.

Want to know an interesting coincidence? I went to the same High School as a well known Olympic medalist, however our times there were about ten years apart and now the High School gym is named after her or something in fact before I graduated the cafeteria mural featured her likeness on it. For the rest of the 05/06 school year news articles and her yearbook entry were on display in the hallway (heck a couple of years ago I actually learned that she won a YTV Achievement award in the early 90s)

I will watch them for sure, I'm glued to certain sports and events and I also want to see how (bad) my country fares again xD

I think someone from my school will be there. We were classmates for several years, though we didn't talk much, and he was already in the last Olympics. He's part of the hockey team, so I hope they can opt for medals.

I hope they can go on without any major incidents, so far international competitions are pushing through so it's to be expected the Olympics can also be worked out just fine. Fingers crossed.

So something I neglected to bring up when I posted this in the first place is that last summer during the period when the Olympics were supposed to take place, I ended up revisiting Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-lympics for the purpose of filling the void. And I felt it was appropriate considering that back in 2010 when Vancouver was hosting the Olympics, Teletoon Retro celebrated that by airing the show during the month of February. LAL was a show I watched in the early 2000s, this mostly because I had watched Scoob and it made me feel like a pre-teen again so I'll give Scooby Doo credit for making me feel the nostalgic feels again, sadly Laff-a-lympics didn't hold up, I don't know if it was because I had gotten old or because I pitied the Rottens....or I was still irritated that due to a strange copyright reason they couldn't use Dick Dasterdy and Muttley on the Rottens, so they had to make up this cousin of Dasterdly's and made a previously established character named Mumbley a bad guy.

I'm skipping this year, which is what I normally do. I'll just wait until the day following each event and then watch a few recaps and read the news. I've only ever paid attention to the Olympics live once in my life and that was back in 2008 and on the radio. I don't really care for 80% of the sports and the events are usually at inconvenient times for me.

I love the Olympics. I watch it religiously, both Summer and Winter. It's the world's biggest event. It's the only time that mankind comes together. It seems that a lot of people these days (or at least in the USA) don't fully understand or appreciate the magnitude of the Olympics and its importance. Pretty much all major sporting events are put on hold while it's taking place (in fact, most major events in general are) as the world spectates the only thing that is truly globally spectated.

In the past I've watched almost all of NBC's coverage. I don't think I'll be able to pull that off this year with having a busier work schedule but I do plan to watch a lot of it. I've been looking forward to the Tokyo Olympic games for as long as I've known about it. I love Japanese culture and I think that Japan has the ability to present the best Olympic experience ever, even during COVID.

4 years ago I remember them talking about how these games will be the most technologically advanced Olympic games ever. It's also the most expensive Olympic games ever, and that would have been the case even if the pandemic wasn't taking place. Now because of the pandemic and the complications it's created, it'll be the most expensive by a massive long shot.

Beyond the overall experience and presentation of the actual events, I think the Tokyo Opening and Closing ceremony has a chance at topping the 2008 Beijing Opening and Closing ceremony. The Opening Ceremony of Beijing might have been one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen (including non-Olympic performances) so with that said, I have high hopes that Tokyo will wow the world with an amazing Opening ceremony. Also keep in mind that the performers got an extra year to rehearse.

Anyways, I'm excited for this Friday

Davideo7 : to be honest I didn't recognize any of them, I mean I heard them say they had Sonic 1 in the background but I've only made it to the end once, and that was years ago, I wouldn't recognize all of the tracks, I mean if it was for the Green Hill zone I would have recognized it straight away

I only recognized one song: the main one from Soul Calibur VI. I swear I was almost crying when I heard it, and the ceremony lasted so long that the full track list was repeated and I could hear it again. Glorious.

Speaking of which, the ceremony was as colorful as ever. Too bad not all athletes showed up, of course some had to wake up early the day after to start fighting for top spots and so skipped it, but many known faces were missing or at least the cameras couldn't catch them.

I'm truly looking forward to see how these Olympics continue developing. I totally despise the fact skateboarding got included, but whatever, the noble Greeks of ancient will continue to curse us for years to come. At least Spain seems to be doing more or less well, we already have a couple medals on day 3 so maybe we can get a nice bunch of them when our favorites start kicking in.

I watch Olympics sorta on/off depending on what's going on, though usually I can't avoid them XD. They'll be playing at some restaurant or in the background, and I'll just get fixated on whatever's playing even if it's for a sport I don't normally care about.

That being said it was REALLY cool when they had video game music playing during the opening ceremony. I recall seeing a tweet on discord that had a playlist of the music played during the ceremony, and thinking 'oh this is just some sort of joke, right'?

But BOY was it awesome hearing the opening for Dragon Quest for the first few teams, I had to wonder if anyone geeked out as they were walking on stage and recognized the music. I'm pretty sure there were two chrono trigger tracks, and Starlight Zone was neat, oddly fitting for the setting.
It was also a bit funny watching it on NBC, since none of the announcers even commented on it, they had zero clue lol.

This year I'm looking forward to seeing the skateboarding, perhaps a bit of the shooting and fencing. I tend to gravitate towards the 'weird' or specific sports, though the volleyball games at the previous Olympics were pretty hype I recall.

Man Canadian Women are really dominating right now Canada has won 8 medals so far (and so far we're doing better than we did in Rio around this time), and it could be 9 if our girl Penny makes the podium 10 if we hit the podium at the sculls, (yeah I have more faith right now in Swimming and Rowing at the moment)

Yeah, I'd love to actually give this a watch, but that probably requires proper TV to do. I did catch a glimpse of a ping pong match though, where America was losing pretty handily to Somalia. I wonder how that one ended?

Spain's performance is quite promising, and at the same time quite exasperating too. We got a new silver medal, but one of our favorites has already missed the podium on two of the three events she contests, and we didn't quite excel at triathlon either.

We still have some faith in events which are currently undergoing, like tennis or waterpolo or even handball I'd say. Basketball is another good chance for us, so let's hope these long lasting events actually give us some medals. And who knows, maybe a surprise medal in athletics could also happen.

We're currently 13 medals away from what should be our number, as every Olympics since 2004 we've been getting one less medal xD. If we want to do away with this "curse" then we need 14 more medals to equal what we achieved in Rio, which looks quite unreachable. I'll keep my hopes up and see what happens, I definitely want us to get in the two digits even if we have no golds.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
