Have you ever damaged a console or a controller, hopefully not someone else's? Us gamers can get really mad at our games sometimes and we don't know how to handle it.

My story is not one of anger but of foolishness. In middle school and high school, I had this awful habit of opening and closing my 3DS all the time. I couldn't just fidget with my hands? Well, in 2016, my 3DS's top screen had taken enough, and it got loose. It almost completely fell off.

This year, I went through my old DS and 3DS games since I'm passing them along. I wanted to clear my data from all those games. But I couldn't do that for all of them because the top screen was blank!

Thankfully, this is the only time I've damaged a console, and I've never damaged a controller. Unless you count when I played my Pacman "Plug n Play" controller WAYYYYY too much as a kid, and the joystick was pretty busted. I've learned my lesson since then, and I treat my joystick on my newer Pacman controller with respect.

Pacman+Mariofan :

I really wouldn't call it anger issues...
When you are passionate about something, you are vulnerable to it when things don't go the way you want.

You mentioned for the DS, I think that purely because of how it's designed,
the 'flip' (Whatever you call the part connecting both screens)
starts to get worn out just using it.
And yeah, your screen can totally break off on it's own.
My DS can't even keep straight now.

Other things I've had with handhelds or controllers is where the buttons will stop working,
get jammed, or hit the button inside poorly enough so that it doesn't always register.

A long time ago, I had a really bad thing happen with my 3DS,
where the battery started to leak, and also the charger outlet broke and fell off.
Although that one was probably actually because it hit the pavement while I was jogging.

For intentional (and somewhat unintentional) destruction,
I whipped my Gameboy with my USB cable so hard it broke the screen.
Didn't even think that would be possible.

Also put a soapy disk of Super Mario Sunshine in my Wii
(So Mario could clean my Wii )
and irreparably destroyed the disk drive.
I did that for a video though, so... can't say that was full bore stupid.

I also used that same Wii and 'destroyed' it
(breaking something that was already broken)
with a sledgehammer, also for entertainment,
but also so I could see what parts were inside.

Just a lot of really stupid accidents and the wear and tear of time.
Honestly I've gotten quite lucky I haven't broken anything more.
I see people's cracked phone screens all the time,
yet I have knocked my television screen off the table
more than a couple times and it's still fine.

Pacman+Mariofan : yes I remember back in the 80,s when I had my atari breaking about three joysticks at different times while playing some of my games by getting too excited and pushing on them too hard these days I no longer have my atari after selling it about ten years ago but I do have a new joystick in it,s original box that is made the same as the ones I used to have for my atari but this time I,m a lot more careful not to break it since the joystick is an older one that would be hard to replace

I damaged my PS3 controller when I was like 13 out of rage, but I don't have issues like that anymore. I was probably playing a fighting game which I sucked at at the time (and probably still do, as fun as I find them I'm garbage lol) so I'm sure I lost or something and I deemed it as bulls***.

Other than that, not really. My PS3 itself has a little bit of physical damage, but that wasn't my fault. My mother dropped it by accident while we were renovating my room and admitted to it.

I did break my GBA SP years ago. I tend to clinch my fists when trying to control my emotions, so I somehow managed to crack its screen during one of those moments.

That's the only time I've actually broken a console or controller. Other than that, my consoles/handhelds or controllers tend to fall to the ground every now and then due to me being clumsy and what not, so maybe that can explain some malfunctioning.

M4g1cW4rr10r : Those are some entertaining stories That USB cable one really got me. I'm amazed that's possible.

no 8120 : Wow! I feel like Atari controllers would be so easy to break lol

Minuano : Oh yeah I'm awful at fighting games. I used to spam buttons out of frustration when I couldn't get what I wanted in video games.

EX Palen : I am so clumsy and I've dropped my controllers many times. Ironically, I haven't dropped my Wii remote with no wrist strap on it though. But yeah, I can tighten up when trying to control my emotions so that makes things fun with games.

I broke a DS once, I think it was back in 2007, but it was because I threw it on purpose.

I just responded to EX Palen's thread on the topic of controllers dying lol.

Fortunately for me, I've never had a console or controller break or die on me. I've always been super careful with my electronics so I've never damaged a console from dropping it. My clumsy younger brother dropped my pristine 3DS outside on the pavement and immediately transformed it from essentially perfect condition to being hideously busted up and scratched to the point where I just bought a replacement and tucked the original in a dark drawer never to be seen again. It was still perfectly functional, but I didn't want my now beat up 3DS to sit among all my nice handhelds and consoles. Of course, I don't count this as my fault since my brother swiped my 3DS and it wasn't damaged under my care. This is the only instance one of my systems has been physically dropped or damaged though.

Aside from that, my Wii and Wii U have a few light scratches on the exterior even though I never touch them except to clean them with a microfiber cloth. I think it's largely because Nintendo opted to give the Wii and Wii U an ultra glossy finish that reflects scratches and fingerprints much better than a simple matte finish. Outside of unavoidable age deterioration, none of my systems or controllers have been damaged because of me. I'm a pretty tidy person that cleans and maintains my stuff often and well (it always pains me to visit a friend's house and see their controllers covered in scratches, eons of grime, grease, and Cheeto dust-- so much so that I now just bring my own controllers whenever I visit). I also don't get emotional when I play games, so I've never been the type to snap a controller in half or throw it at a wall. Systems and controllers are pretty pricey these days and will only continue to increase in cost so I do everything I can to make them last.

zanderlex : Yeah, that'll do it! Maybe little handhelds can be thrown more and be fine, but not a DS

SacredShadow : It also bothers me when I see other people's controllers like that! I try to take really good care of mine.

becerra95 : Wow! All that, from one game? XD

hellno163 : That's good that it was only cracked. I find it a miracle that I never did anything worse as a kid!

As a kid I broke 3 GBA SP's, two of which were AGS-101's, however after growing up i went back to one of them and replaced the broken component which was the screen.

The things I break now usually are just me being dumb when trying to fix it while taking it apart.

I was about to type that I've never damaged a console or controller however! That is not true I bought a wired controller a few years back and broke the LB button on it within 3 days by pressing the block button playing Xenoverse 2 and I was pretty ticked off about it.
