Hi there folks!

Lately I've been going through boxes and organizing my stuff. I sold off some duplicate consoles and games today, and have decided that I would like to save up for a new Nintendo console. So with that I must ask you fine folks, which should I get, a Switch or a 3DS? Feel free to throw some in pros and cons. I'm still thinking it over, and would love to hear what you guys think.

Norriegirl93 : Really depends on what you want, for hacking I would definitely go with a 3DS as the security is all but destroyed. However for newer games and WOAH NICE GRAPHICS, then a switch is better. Also 3DS is pretty much at it's EOL right now.

Boured : Basically, the 3DS is now starting to enter the realm of shovelware (where all the cabbages games are released), so basically, all of the good games released for the 3DS has already been released.

My pick would easily be the Nintendo Switch. This is coming from an owner of both a 3DS and a Switch. After I got my Nintendo Switch last year, I rarely played on my 3DS, and since Super Smash Bros Ultimate was released, I haven't even turned my 3DS on, and that's been 4 months.

The only plus side I see with getting a 3DS instead of a Switch is if there's a game that is released either for the 3DS or the DS (since the 3DS is backwards compatible with DS games) and not for the Switch (which isn't a huge list), and if you're not willing to spend another $100 for the Switch, then go with the 3DS.

But other than that, if you want to play a game that's on the 3DS that is also on the Switch, I rather go with the Nintendo Switch (like for an example, Super Smash Bros, I rather go with the Switch version (a.k.a. Ultimate), than I would go with the 3DS version, plus like I told Boured, you're not going to get any new releases on the 3DS other than Shovelware games, where on the Switch, you're still got major releases planned. Plus, all of the online has been shifted to the Switch, so if you're an online gamer, I rather you go with the Switch.

-----

So, to sum it up.

*If you want to go cheap, rather play non-Switch games that has already been released (3DS, DS, and VC), and don't mind playing single player or local wireless, then I would go with the 3DS.
*If you don't mind spending an extra $100, expect to get much newer games, and you're more of an online gamer, then I would go with the Switch.

3DS:

Pros:

-Hacking it is easy, so you can get everything for nearly free.
-Comfortable in the hands.
-Has a rich library of content.
-Can play the entire DS library.

Cons:

-Too many models.
-Requires a flashcart for DS ROMS.
-Almost nothing new coming out.
-Uglier graphics.

Switch:

Pros:

-Reasonable graphics.
-Console quality games.
-New games.
-Handheld and TV experience.

Cons:

-System and games are more expensive.
-Not as nice in the hands.
-Not strong enough to play some games from other platforms.
-Has a bad battery life in graphics intensive games.

Both are great systems, but the Switch is probably getting new models in the summer. I'd wait till then to invest in it, if you go down that route.
