A long time ago, getting a layout would be a simple affair. I knew a few people who made them, and later, we had the vizzed market. But I had my current one made years ago. I love the way it looks, but it just isn't practical, since it requires a lot of scrolling. Since then, I've asked around, and offered up sums of Viz for a new one, but I've never gotten a bite. It makes it a bit more difficult for me to post, I used to switch layouts all the time. I may be able to use the editor. (Provided it works on tablets.) But I have OCD, and doubt I'd get it to look nice enough with my limited knowledge. This probably isn't an important issue to complain about, but I miss being able to just re-adjust my aesthetic on a whim. It helped me stay involved with the community. Most other sites are just basic boxes.

pennylessz : You're not the only one to mention they miss the variety of custom layouts. It was a lot easier before the start of the gradual migration to the new site layout, which is still ongoing. Since then, the advance layout editor has been having more and more problems and it's also due for an overhaul. David has mentioned before that he still plans on building a new one from the ground up and I suspect it'll be similar to how layout customization changed. It's just taking a long time to get there.

m0ssb3rg935 : To be honest, the site looks generally awful on my Galaxy Tablet. Everything is all wonky. I feel like a layout would help, but I sure would like to see a more streamlined interface. I know that David needs money, and I'd give some if I had some, but it kinda bums me out. Also, hello m0ss, I believe we haven't talked in years.

Yeah, layouts haven't been working at their best for a while now. The new site coding made the old ones unusable, and changing them sometimes wasn't even possible due to the problems with the Reply page, problems we've done away with thanks to the new Post page.

If I must be honest, I also don't like scrolling layouts, even if my current one is of that kind. I'd make it stretch if I knew how, but my efforts so far have been futile. I'll keep on trying and see if I ever manage to achieve it, because I also have very limited knowledge on this matter.

I do have a stretchable layout, but I discarded it for being too simple. I mostly copied the coding from someone else's layout (in the only abuse of mod powers I've ever done, if it's actually an abuse) and modified it to suit my tastes. I may modify it further so it doesn't look simple anymore, but once again my limited knowledge may be an obstacle.

The simplicity of the site as a whole has been done away with the new site coding. Veterans and not so technologically-expert users are having a tough time and can't help but reminisce of how times past were better, but just like the site is evolving slowly and steadily, so should we. Anything that stays the same for too long will eventually become outdated, and even if it was more attractive while "outdated", we must move forward and gradually introduce changes so the site feels alive.

I made a layout thread, with a typo in the title, and it's completely broken. That typo is embarrassing though.

Yeah it has been a while, hasn't it? I actually can't recall if we talked a whole lot in the old chatrooms, but that's probably on me because I spent more time rambling and pretending to understand memes than I did having actual conversations.

I actually didn't realize that the site disables layouts for tablet mode until I went and switched views. I knew it did that for phones, but I wasn't aware for tablets. The site's been rather difficult to optimize for mobile devices. On the developer end, the rise of mobile made web design a lot more difficult, from what I gather. Hard to find that balance between full-size screen and mobile compatibility.

And yeah, the site eats threads and posts sometimes. As the others may have pointed out, that's been an ongoing thing since the site's started migrating to the new code, too.

m0ssb3rg935 : Since my tablet is rooted, I managed to inject a file into a folder pertaining to Chrome. This file forces every site into desktop mode. Tablet versions of sites are awful, and layouts work fine on my tablet.

We probably talked a few times. It's just good to see some veteran users still on the boards. I've committed myself to posting regularly. So far I have over 80 posts this week. I hope somebody will join me. The activity is up to us afrerall.

I have a fix for it eating threads. I keep my layout disabled, but I copy the code for it to my clipboard. After I make a thread, I paste it into the header of my post. It's one of my favorite parts of post editing. I can test layouts this way too.
