So there has always been a debate between Pokemon and Digimon. They're a lot closer to each other than you think and a lot of people think for a bunch of reasons that Digimon is just a ripoff of Pokemon.

I'm not one of those people. I love Pokemon because it's a lot of fun and it's what I grew up with but I love the story and content of Digimon games a whole lot more. I think the mechanics are better in most of the games, the voice acting and style is usually great, and I love the darker tone.

Which one do you prefer and why?

I definitely prefer Pokemon over Digimon. I never was into Digimon and I don't think I ever will be. I mean, it was fairly obvious what Digimon was trying to. I mean jeez man, right down to the name. They were trying to buy off of Pokemon's success. The first Digimon game released 2 years after the original Pokemon games. I just can't respect a series that does something like that.

I've never actually played Digimon, so I can't say I definitely wouldn't like it more than Pokemon, but Pokemon is what I grew up with, so it does have the advantage.

I think that a new game, especially since it will be on a wide range of systems (PS4, XB1, Switch, and PC) they have a much higher probability of gaining a better audience. They have no release date for the new game, which is concerning for me. They need to release it before Pokémon Gen 8, and considerably before, if they want to attract attention to themselves without being overshadowed by Pokémon.

I think that will the right marketing, a lot of people could become fans of the series. It is a quality series, but they need to be marketed as something other than the game series that sounds similar to Pokémon.

But if they play this all right, I might pick up a copy myself.

Barathemos : Lol yeah they can do a lot better with marketing. I see more ads for their movies which are one day only than their games.

My favorite Digimon game game out in 2016 and the sequel came out this year so I feel like they are doing much better now in terms of content.

It is very likely that Digimon was inspired greatly by Pokemon, and it is definitely not the only one. That being said, I wouldn't necessarily call it a ripoff just because its similar. Nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from others.

Obviously, if I had to choose between the two, I'm going with Pokemon all the way.
