With
the appointment of new mods and our interest in generating activity we
have come to the agreement to test out a new form of contest. I'm sure
most of you are aware of the TAS speedrun competitions where you use the
tools Mednafen in the RGR offers. But I wanted to offer something to
those who want something that proves more of a challenge, and a true
competition testing skill and knowledge of the game. Now onto the rules
as well as the game selected for Speerunning. Game Selected Metroid Zero MissionThe
staff chose this as this is a very speedrunnable game, it's short and
takes very little time to complete, and offers many options to cut your

as well as the game selected for Speerunning.down. The RGR does not provide this game however, nor are we using
the RGR in this tournament as mednafen is not as accurate as the
preferred emulator. What we will be using is mGBA an emulator that is
very accurate to the GBA console, especially with the bios which will
also need to be obtained. Most of these needed materials are easily
found online, I will link the things that are legal to distribute.Legal DownloadsmGBA: Download (Download latest stable release)Non-Legal File Checksums (MD5)Metroid Zero Mission (U) : ebbce58109988b6da61ebb06c7a432d5Metroid Zero Mission (E) : 07930e72d4824bd63827a1a823cc8829Metroid Zero Mission (J) : 650140ccae6e1ab7af44c74986002375GBA BIOS : a860e8c0b6d573d191e4ec7db1b1e4f6All files can be checked for the right MD5 via this site. All runs must be submitted with a video, a screenshot of the ending will not suffice.4. All runs must perform the verification action otherwise they are not valid. 5. Apart from Level 1, all runs must be done with no deaths.Verification ActionThis
is to make sure you don't just go on speedrun.com, grab a good run and
then post it as your own. Each user will be required to go into the
games options menu, select "Metroid Fusion Link" and have it fail before starting the run. A demonstration is shown below.
Starting The Run
1. Set GBA BIOS in mGBA settings. ( Tools - > Settings -> BIOS -> GBA BIOS 2. Launch your ROM (You should see the GBA bootscreen if your bios were set correctly) 3. Press CTRL + P and then CTRL + R, the screen should go white. 4. Go to Audio/Video -> Record Output -> Select File and choose file name -> Start 5. Press Stop when run is completed. (Should end when "See you next mission" is displayed on screen)
Rewards
it
is understandable that such a tournament would be very hard for every
user to get into, thus we have divided the tournament into multiple
levels, each having their own rewards.
Level 1
For
those who have only really beaten the game once, not exactly used to
the game but are confident to try to be fast at beating it.
Reward: 100,000 Viz
Level 2 For
those who have beaten the game many time, but are more of a casual
player of the game, not knowing much of the games tricks and sequence
breaks.
Reward: 10 Raffle Tickets + 500,000 Viz
Level 3 For
those who are incredibly experienced at speedrunning this game, or know
all the tricks and sequence breaks to be able to attempt a speedrun of
the game. For those who want to go for the gold and be as competitive as
possible.
Reward: $50 USD (Minors will receive a $50 gift card of their choice.)
The rules are now set, now get going! The tournament entries will close on New Years Day, so get going!
This is also the first time this has been done, if you feel there should be ways to make this better, please let me know!
Also I it unknown why the formatting is borked here, I have edited this a total of 4 times, all resulting in what you see here, hopefully it is still readable.
