Alright so, didn't really know where to put this. But, I know this is a issue that's mainly found on the Internet (at least from what I can tell), and felt that this would be the most appropriate place to put this.

Anyhow, I'd like to discuss with y'all a little bit about the current 'fad'/thing going on, and that has been going on for a while, of people hating literally anything or at least making reasons for you to hate whatever it is. I see it a lot on twitter and tumblr, and see it on other sites on this vast place called the Internet, but mainly the two I listed. And also to talk about how redundant/hypocritical it is

Now, to be more specific, I'm talking about how they always try to make reasons for you to hate something that others enjoy, by making it out to be problematic or trying to dig up things that will make the creator's seem problematic. I see a lot of popular shows or games or even people themselves get turned on very quickly because of one person deeming them to be problematic, even when the label is incredibly off. Here's a couple examples of that happening:

A major one I recall involves the comedian John Mulaney. Mulaney is famous for his stories, like the Salt and Pepper Diner and 'Ya know, like a Liar' and 'Horse in the Hospital'. He's a funny guy, and a very sweet one as well. His humor doesn't involve any harm towards others (I.e. racism or stereotypes) like some comedians do, and he's just a genuine kind of guy. He makes jokes about his marriage but doesn't do it in the 'oh I hate it and I'm trapped' way that many do in shows and games and the likes, but always makes sure it's respectful. But, someone decided they wanted to paint him as a guy who hates his wife by taking one out of context. The joke in question was one where he asked his wife if she minded being talked to on his shows, and she responded with 'as long as you don't call me a B and say you don't like me it's fine' so he jokingly said she is a B but he likes her and says she's the best. However, on Tumblr someone tried to make it seem like he just called her a B.

Another one was someone, also on Tumblr, trying to claim that Brooklyn Nine-Nine was cop propaganda and that it promoted police brutality (via jokes involving the character Rosa Diaz). However, the show is entirely fictional and also purely comedy, and the jokes in question stopped after season 1. It's also one of the only major show I know of that has actual diversity in it.

Then there was the whole issue of the game Dream Daddy. If you don't know the game, it's one that was at least endorsed by Game Grumps, and was basically a dating sim about dads dating each other. It was a major milestone in LGBT representation, but again people wanted it to seem problematic and ruin the enjoyment. I recall many tumblr posts dredging up far into the past to make the Game Grumps and the creators of the game appear problematic, spreading things that no longer applied now that they have grown.

My main issue is the fact that people on the Internet will dig deep, deep into the past just so they can ruin something that brings change and is a positive force, simply because they aren't happy if everyone else isn't unhappy. Those specific examples were mostly on Tumblr, as that's the website I mainly frequent, but I hear of it popping up on other sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all the time. My friends have been run off the Internet because people kept trying to ruin their enjoyment of something by making the creators or premise seem problematic and thus make my friends problematic.

Now, my main issue with all this is the simple fact that the very people who make everything appear to be problematic are the very people who complain about how there isn't anything good in the world, that there isn't any good shows with diversity or comedians who don't harm people or games with diversity. They want all the things the very shows, games, and people they tear down actually present. There's so many situations that I know of where this happens, and it's literally the worst thing ever. Actors get driven off the Internet for this, people actually straight up die over these things.

The worst, however, is how they will hold anything you say online against you, no matter your age. I've seen actual adults go after children that make a single mistake, and never give those kids a chance to grow up and change.

Sure, these people may have been problematic once. And there are things they do that can't be forgiven. But, for the most part, it isn't a case of the things being unforgivable. It's a case of wanting to ruin everyone's enjoyment by making very very old issues seem like very very recent developments.

I don't see why the Internet won't let people grow from mistakes, especially kids. We were all kids once, who made mistakes at one point in time. We grew from those, did we not? Why won't we let others do the same?

I just think it's a very dumb issue, one that shouldn't be happening and that needs to be fixed.

But, I didn't come here just to rant. I wanted to discuss this with everyone, and see all of your opinions. What do you think of this trend? Have you experienced it, or seen anything resembling it? What do you think we should do about it, and why do you think people do it?

I don't have much to contribute to this subject but I have one thing to add.

Free the nipple is a growing trend of people who think lady tiddies should be freed so women can walk around topless all they want. Kinda weird but not my place to judge.
As this trend grows, I happened to see another thing on the cursed website tumblr. A group of women had launched a huge attack on topless men, saying that they're disgusting taking topless selfies etc
Honestly we don't need feminism we need equality lol

Big issue seems to be they're trying to balance things out by strongly advocating for the other side. For example, black men were hated in the past, less so in the present. So in current times, there's a lot of people putting black people on a pedestal and ironically making them seem better than white people. There are tumblrs, twitters and sites now dedicated to posts and communities for black people. But think about it - isn't that just as racist?

Also to add to that they're making it seem like uttering the word black is racist, with the nursery rhyme being changed from baa baa black sheep to baa baa rainbow sheep.
that entire mentality is straight up dumb there is no good argument for it

It's not a trend, it's now our way of life! Twitter, Facebook and smartphones have made it possible for older generations to turn into millennial's and generation z's all they need is an internet connection.

Now we can complain about every little thing in life with the click of a button. Why do we do it? To feel like we have a voice in the world. Maybe to feel important or to see if others agree with your message or just to stir trouble because it can be fun and entertaining.

I can visit any news site (doesn't matter what one it is) and you will see it in the comments and in the articles. Moaning and complaining and majority of the sources coming from what someone said or did in their tweets.

Sorry I am one of the complainers but this generation sucks a$$! Things were so much better back in the day. Comedians can't say or do things they were able to do in past. With everyones voice magnified by social media, everything and I mean everything has become a problem. This is why I don't use social media or watch mainstream news.

Now and days you can't arrest a black person without being called racist, you can't say God without someone getting offended and you can't say merry christmas because the person may be jewish! I can see why more and more people are going insane these days.

sadly we live in a world these days where all kinds of crazy things happen not only do people make bad and horrible comments on twitter or face book but they also do the same thing on u tube all you have to do is check all the comments people make for any video, movie or song that you come across no matter how good it is someone will always have something bad to say about it unfortunately this is the way some people are for whatever reason causes them to act the way they do whenever i watch a video or listen to a song on u tube and come across any bad or inappropriate comments i don,t bother to respond instead i just ignore them because if you respond someone will always have something to say back to you and while all comments that people make are not bad i find that sometimes it,s better just to keep your comments to yourself rather than risk starting a flame war with someone who may be acting rude or disrespectful

I think you are bringing up two very important issues we are facing in the social media age. That is Character Assignation and Trolling

Character Assignation on facebook and other social media is a problem. Basically when a person tries to start something good or brings up an important issue. People will spread lies about that person in the comments. I have even seen people make videos trying to ruin the person. Its a lot like political adds really

The second part is trolling. Trolling has different forms but basically trolls will flame, spam, and say horrible things about the person. Everybody gets trolled at some point. Me I just block them on facebook.

We live in a world that people think they are entitled to something. Now if you work hard, and you bust your ass, yeah you deserve stuff, but if you don't want to work hard and want the government to give you hand outs (like are last President did) it makes people lazy and they think they are entitled to what the person that works their ass off gets. That's not right. Then we have this outraged culture on the internet, you have SJW's pissed about sexism, racism, etc in video games, when 95% of it is blown out of proportion stupidity by them. GamerGate obviously was a thing that happened, and the GamerGate side won, funny enough 90% of the people supporting GamerGate moved on with their life, and say its' dead now, then you have another 10% that grasp on to it for Youtube views. Then you have the anti GamerGaters that continue to spew stupidity and bring the topic up, although what is really funny, a lot of those speaking out have been outted as real piles of trash.

As for what society is now, it's sad, now granted technically I am a millennial, I was born in 1988, but I don't feel I am part of that group. I work hard for what I want, I don't beg and plead for stupid stuff, and I am very anti SJW and anti censorship. Like it's been said, it's a way of life now, and it's going to be for a long time, and with Donald Trump is president, you have this same group still whining and crying that he's running the show. They can't face the facts that they have to deal with it. As for trolling, which was mentioned. Personally I like to troll, but there is a fine line between trolling, and going farther then that, with doxxing, and SWATTING being a huge thing now, that's too far, I don't think doxxing is a smart thing to do, and swatting has NEVER been the smart thing to do. But having a little banter with someone isn't going to hurt. Maybe someone's feelings, but I only go after the easily offended clowns on Twitter that whine and cry about everything. My thoughts? People need to grow a set and quit being cry babies. Not everything is sexist, racist, misogynist, etc.

You know, this is the problem with Social Media now a days, how insane people are becoming on any of those sites like Twitter Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, 4Chan, Reddit (don't get me started with the last 2, those 2 are filled with complete, well whatever that word that starts with the letter "R" and ends with "ds") That is why I stay far away as possible from these social media sites because of that particular reason. It's bad enough that I'm on DeviantArt and all, especially the way people act on there, but the only reason I'm there is to upload all my art content, if it wasn't for that, I would of left DA a really long time ago.

Another thing is that these people like you mentioned, they all expect that they want things go their way. Well, I got newsflash, there is no such thing as anyone getting things their way, so they have to deal with it. Over the course of history, humans have to deal with things that aren't going to go their way, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Humanity has existed for like ten thousand years or so, and over the course of that time, humans has manage to tough everything out during conflicts. Now fast forward all the way to more modern times, say like World War II, the reason why the Allies defeated the Axis Powers is because the people that enlisted in the military had to deal with a ton of discipline, just so they don't show any weakness towards the enemy. Now if you got the offended people today during World War II, the Axis Powers would of defeated the Allies with absolutely no effort at all, this is why discipline exist, if you don't show discipline, then you're not going to be successful in life at all.

Note, if anyone is going to be quote on quote "Offended" over something, well guess what, deal with it, who cares about your opinion, if you don't like on what you are seeing, then walk away, or turn it off, or something. Don't ruin it for everyone else. With these "Offended" people is what causing me to lose fate in humanity today.

Basically long story short, to all the SJWs that wants to go on Social Media and go cry and moan because things aren't going your way and say something "Offends" you because it's "racist" or "sexist" or "Misogynist" or "Anti-Semantic", guess what, who cares, humanity has been like that since the beginning of time, and you expect people to stop in 2018? Nope.

Nope.

IgorBird122 : "...say like World War II, the reason why the Allies defeated the Axis Powers is because the people that enlisted in the military had to deal with a ton of discipline, just so they don't show any weakness towards the enemy. Now if you got the offended people today during World War II, the Axis Powers would of defeated the Allies with absolutely no effort at all..."

Igor, I can get behind much of your statement, I completely understand where you're coming from when it comes to social media sites that can be a little...funky. However, this part alarmed me. Not only is this a profoundly simplified perspective of the deadliest conflict in human history (a conflict which many would agree has tremendously impacted cultures and our thinking of mortality), but it also implies that....hundreds of thousands of men that marched to their deaths in war had a choice. Additionally, quality of life (QOL) was objectively worse in the early twentieth century than today, and the adolescents of the fighting WW2 generation harnessed more domestic, agricultural and laborious responsibility than adolescents today. Of COURSE if you rounded up all these "offended people", they would suffer defeat, because this margin of people you have labeled likely have NO military experience and less time spent in blue collar activity, compared to American GI's in the Second World War, meaning they would be, on average, physically inferior.

We can all agree that SJW's that have nothing better to do than complain about trivial social nonsense on the Internet are insufferable. However, when expressing such concerns, I would refrain from such brash comparisons to sensitive subjects (WW2, for instance), which are immaterial and irrelevant to this discussion.
