I have never ever prayed to a saint.

There is absolutely NOTHING biblical about that either. That is a Catholic thing to do... not sure about other Christian sects... but as far as I know it's only Catholics that do it.

I don't see the point either.... what would praying to a saint do that praying to God can't?

I think a couple of the more traditional Protestant churches do it too, but dont' quote me on that.

If you think about it, praying to Mary or to a saint is really a form of idolatry. God himself said not to have any other gods before Him, and Jesus said "no man cometh unto the father, but by me." These are fundamental verses of the Bible. Why people who read the Bible would believe otherwise is beyond me.

God is a system of three beings and one at the same time: The Father, The Son (known to us as Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. God Himself was given a name we can pronounce, and that name is Jehovah. He created the universe. He made the Earth in six days and to this day still hasn't given up on us. He knows we're all bound for hell, but he's provided us a very easy way out because he loves us. This is what I pray to. I'd like to see a saint do anything even remotely resembling that.

None.
Even though I'm a catholic, I dont believe in saints. God made us so He's the one who understands us and his creations, not the saints.

Exactly, it IS idolatry and I've always found it pathetic that the Catholics do this. It's even more pathetic when they bow down to statues.

I have to agree with this. Its not that I'm bashing my fellow catholics, but yeah, its pathetic.

Roman Catholics pray to Mary and to saints because they are asking them to pray for them. To me it is slightly okay, but I wouldn't say it is exactly necessary, I would rather just pray directly to Jesus.

greeogree and davideo7 offer excellent advice retro_general. We're not telling you to argue or create conflict, we're telling you so that you can be biblically sound. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Davideo7 : I am a semi catholic. I go to church every sunday but that's about it. I don't pray to saints but to God. I do understand why catholics pray to Saints since I am one. They/we see it as praying through the saints to God. In our eyes, God gave these Saints special gifts such as kindness twards animales (Francis of Assisi) or education (Augustine of Hippo) and through these saints, we pray to God for specific things. For example, I would pray to Saint Francis if my dog was sick or dying. I would pray to Saint Augustine to help me study for a test. I'm not praying directly to these people but I am praying to God through these people. You can also pray to different icons/symbols/statues of the saints and like I said, those prayers will go to God through the saints.

Davideo7 : Most saints came after the bible aside from the writers of the gospels so it wouldent have appeared in the bible. The idea of praying to the saints evolved as the church evolved. Theres no specific origin to this practice other than early christians praying to the apostles to help them live their faith in one way or the other. It does say in scripture Revelation 5:8 that "those in heaven are aware of the prayers of those on earth" but thats kindof stretching it if you are looking for a bible reference.

I find it interesting how Catholics gain this type of understanding. It is not a biblical understanding of the word, saint. According to the Bible, saints are the body of Christ, or the Church.

Example of Paul addressing to the saints:
"Greet all the saints in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send greetings." (Philippians 4:21)
