Does a game feel dull after awhile.
If you play the game for a really long time, does it get boring?

You know, once you get a game and you have played that game for a long time straight (like contentiously playing the same game over and over). Does any game that you play start  to get dull and boring over time, like if you continue playing it and you have no other game to play your console/handheld with.

For me for instance, I just got my Nintendo Switch just last month and so far, I only have 1 game and that's Pokken Tournament DX, although I have been meaning to get more games for the Switch, but financially, that seems quite impossible, so I'm stuck with Pokken Tournament DX, and the game started getting dull, despite me loving Pokemon and all.

Have any of you have this feeling where if you play a game for a really long time and it starts getting dull?

I think it depends on the style of game.

A game where you adventure and move around a map and what not will not do that as quickly as a "fighting" or tournament style game where you are basically doing the same thing over and over.

I also find it tough to start an old game over sometimes because I know I will almost always fall into my old habits that I know work rather than explore the game in a different way (which is usually why I'll even pick up the game at all).

geeogree : True, there is some games where it doesn't really feel that dull, even after getting an 100% completion, such as any Sandbox and Free-roam games, and Simulations, but others can be quite dull, it really depends on both the game and interest.

It has happened to me, almost in all consoles I've owned.

The most recent case was Trackmania Turbo. It was bloodily fun at first and the levels were insane, but as I progressed into the game the obstacles, hazards and basically whatever made a level harder than the one before was just out of bounds. For example, that level where the track is full of hairpins and you're just passing turbo pads so your speed never goes below 350 mph.

I've been stuck in that game for a while, and I have no plans to change that soon. Besides it being silly, the requirements are also relatively high, and so I've lost interest into discovering the remaining levels and complete the game even once.

SoulCalibur V was also very dull. Such a short Story mode was depressing, and sooner rather than later all you could do is fight online or local because the single player stuff couldn't offer anything new. Maybe you could still aim for all the weapons of all the characters, but if the game didn't offer a deep single player mode it would get very repetitive quite soon.

As long as a game can still offer things to me, it won't get dull. I don't mean DLC, because I'm against it, but if the game can offer a lot of things to do it has the potential to keep me glued for a long time.

I'm the kind of guy that, when a game sucks them in, I binge that thing for at least the next week, sometimes two or three straight and then I get so burnt out that I don't return to it for another run for at least six months, if ever. On the other hand, since I spent/spend so much time playing games, that memory of being hooked on it also gets tied up with other memories of stuff going on at the same time. In a way, gaming has kinduh helped be record a lot of my experiences. A lot more was lost than saved, but a lot was saved none the less. And not like writing it down on a piece of paper but actually associating sensations from that time with locations or sounds or music in game. If I pick up an old game I played 9 or 10 years ago, I remember the things I felt, the things I smelled and heard and tasted.

So the game might get dull after running it into the ground, but the experience adds value to it besides replayability for me.

For me every game I've ever played gets boring eventually especially a game that I've beaten 100%.
That's really how we gamers are we conquer one game a certain amount of times then we look for more games
that are new and exciting to conquer.

Yes at some point it does happen. But with me I would like take a break from it depending on what other things I am doing. And then when I feel like playing the game again I will go back and play again hours on end. I believe gamers have those moments when they stop playing their favourite games for a while to concentrate on other things before returning back to it. ^-^

If it's some kind of an open world game, I don't think it can ever get old because you could always do things in different ways.

Same goes for sports games.

For anything else though, once you beat it or play for a really long time, you probably wouldn't want to play it again for a while.

zanderlex : That's what I felt with games like Grand Theft Auto I play, even after I get a 100% completion on the game, that doesn't really mean I'm done playing the game altogether, but about half of the games gets that feeling though.

Mostly Open World games like Sandbox games, Simulation games, and Free Roam games doesn't get old at all.

Yes, and like others have already said this is especially true for puzzle games or games that lack any kind of variety. Whenever you're just doing the same thing over and over again it becomes very dull very fast. I'm thinking of games like Dr. Mario. It's one of those games where you have several different modes to play on, but it's basically just the same background and music over and over for hours. The only thing that is different is the difficulty. It gradually gets harder the more you keep playing it, but everything else about the game stays the same. There is almost no variety to it. That's why I prefer the platformer games like Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country, etc. Some of the fighting games like Punch Out also fall into this category.

I think what makes a game dull after a while is when you're not moving along. Instead, you're just playing with the same music and background. The only thing that changes is the difficulty level in most of these types of games. I guess I still enjoy puzzle games and fighting games, but not as much as many of the classic platformers.

I love the walking dead games. But sometimes they do go on and on. And some of the game play is boring at points.

Personally I think any game can become dull after a while, even ones I enjoy can just feel dull. At that point, I would just step away from the game for a while. I had this happen with GTA V even though I have put 100+ hours into the game since I owned it, but I have been playing it on PC, and really enjoying it a ton. I use to play a lot of Rocket League, and took a break from it for a long while, and I recently installed it, and have really enjoyed it a lot again. I can see this happening with Fortnite, since I been playing that a lot, and I will eventually take a break from it.

Even in the past, this happened with games like The Sims, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Diablo II, Age of Empires II, Black & White, games that I have put hundreds of hours into. Some of these I haven't played in a while and I always get that itch to play them again lol.
