lordbelial669 : Yeap I remember that. That script actually lets the session creator choose which rules to go by which would be fun. It also supports Player vs CPU for users who want some practice first.

Mynamescox44 : I would definitely love to create an entirely new TCG. It's definitely something I'll be considering.

geeogree : A Battle Arena is something we'll definitely be getting but like always, I just don't know when. I figured using a script would speed up the process of getting something exciting like this added to Vizzed sooner rather than later but I do love the idea of creating a whole new TCG from the ground up.

zanderlex : It really depends on which thing you're referring to. If you're talking about the Triple Triad script, I'd imagine it'd take someone less than a few weeks to convert it over to function with Vizzed.

Davideo7 : I think this could be a fun idea especially if tournaments were to be hosted, I like collecting things and I enjoy some TCGs so I would probably try to hoard as many cards as I can. Though I think it bringing in a whole new fanbase in like someone previously stated might be exaggerating it a bit unless something completely new is done with it, but  it would still be a new fun thing for members to engage in.

Like you said I think if you're using a script it should be expanded to not only include FFVIII cards since that seems like it'll be a bit of a limited audience. Pokemon Themed Cards seem like a natural progression with how popular the games are. Perhaps you could release new card expansions waiting some time in between each one to keep it fresh.

I'm also really for any update that helps add more value to Viz and keeps it from getting any more inflated, though that means maintaing a balance for where the cards aren't extremely cheap to get so a ton of members will already have all of them at release while at the same time not making them so expensive so only those with a ton of Viz would collect them.

Zlinqx : I'm not necessarily expecting this to bring in new members, I'm hoping that it helps keep the current members around longer and I'm also hoping that it increases the value of Viz so that users desire earning it more and those who have a lot of it have more things to spend it on.

Speaking of Pokemon, the only addon I ever purchased for that Dragonbyte Triple Triad script was the "Pokemon Series 1". Basically they made all of the graphics, stats and db entries for 111 Pokemon and trainers. The script gives you access to an admin panel which lets you add cards but it still requires graphic design skills to make the cards. Anyways, attached is a graphic of one of those cards that were part of that set.

Davideo7 : Well, obviously that script isn't anything closer to the actual Pokemon TCG, so if you're limited to what the script allows you to create, it surely would be a lot more time consuming.

If we were to make it like the actual TCG, however, it wouldn't be that time consuming. I've played Yugioh manually before, and while it requires a great deal of fair play from everyone, it can still be played normally with just a few commands. Coming from someone who single-handedly attempted to translate the whole Yugioh database (+7k cards), I know what I'm talking about when I say time consuming.

Either way, it seems this idea has a lot of support from the community, so whatever you end up creating, count us in to play it.

Well, the one that's shown there with the charizard isn't an actual Pokemon tcg and would run the same way as this game, but I think it would appeal to more people instead of having just one using FF stuff, kind of like how people choose between what they want to have for their ranks. Even though the rules and game play would stay the same, I would probably prefer to play the Pokemon ones.


How many different cards are there in the FF one?

EX Palen : The script is only for the Triple Triad card game but it allows you to create more cards based on any theme as long as it falls within the TT rules and stats.

Okay, by messing around with that, I think I understand how the game works, and it's kind of fun but still very confusing for me.

I looked into this a bit more and I'm getting more excited for the possibilities. I also think we have enough people on the site who could make cards that looked good that we could make a Vizzed version of cards. And being able to have a Vizzed version of the game is the only real reason I would want this. FF8 doesn't interest me much neither does Pokemon.

geeogree : Well, we could always blend this with my idea. The cards could use user profile pics that are suggested by the users, and the numbers could be based on something about their stats or random. Using users and their pics would be a lot easier than making up brand new designs for each one.

Is there a way we can look at the source of the vbulletin one?
I would like to see that one implemented since it seems like its complete and can accept addons... maybe custom content?

I recently came across a TCG script called MyTCG. I'm not exactly sure what it is since there are no demos of it and I couldn't find a lot of information but the script is free and it's suppose to be not only a card management system (for people who actually own the cards) but also offers a way for people to play the cards with each other (it a less automated way). It supports many card games which includes Pokemon.

geeogree : The thing with the cards being based on Vizzed users is that it doesn't appeal to users who aren't actively part of the community. I only see users who have cards based on them being interested in it. Plus, this is kinda what the battle arena would be for, based on the users themselves and their stats.


Vanelan : I have the source for it already. It was pretty confusing to glance over, especially since the directory has 105 files between the javascript and PHP files which I'm sure is 10,000s of lines of code. And since I'm not familiar at all with vBulletin, it'd be an even bigger challenge. I'm not saying I can't do it but I am saying that if it seems like something that would be too time consuming for me to take care of myself, I'd probably pass. I'll probably look more into it in the upcoming week. Basically there are only a few features I'd want to extract from it and the rest of the features I'd basically want to make myself (such as a stats page, the ability to buy, sell and trade, etc).

That MyTCG project looks very nice, but the website you provided is kinda old and outdated. It could be worth a try to see what we can do with it, if we can load existing games like the Pokemon TCG saves us a lot of time, and also provides an excellent proving ground for Vizzed's own TCG.

There can be people upset about it not being fully automated, but depending on the game it's not that much trouble. Also, it's a far easier and faster way to get in touch with the game and the card database.

Sounds cool, triple triad is one of my favorite mini-games in final fantasies. Playing with others would be nice experience.

I would be up for that. I remember playing it in the "early days" of the commercial Internet and it was very interesting.

Since we're talking about playing: are you still planning on a "battle arena" in order to "justify" our buying weapons and armors? That was also an interesting feature of the early Internet.
