IGN has stated that the newest Xbox system will be released before next Christmas in order to compete with the Wii U.

I don't think that IGN is a very good source for news, by the way. It's very popular but almost everything is second-hand.

I won't believe it until Microsoft rolls out with ads or releases an official statement.

I read over a few comments on the page for IGN's article, and I say I have to agree with some of them. Coupled with the fact that Microsoft is trying to compete with the Wii U as soon as possible, the earlier than expected release of the 720 may only be a ploy to get the jump on the market. Although it may be judgmental, I would not be all the surprised if the 720 happens to have some untreated issue(s) that should have been taken care of before release.

AuraBlaze : like the 360.theyre gona make the same mistake as last time,sony will take more time,make a better console(hardware wise) and theyl have nothing unique,again.

Awe, the Xbox 360 is having a hard time competing Nintendo.  What I think about the Xbox 720 is going to be basically the same stuff.  Nothing is going to allow them to be better than Nintendo since they are going to make their games look realistic like the PS3 and Xbox 360.  Watch it be the same stuff, but probably some new features.  I cannot believe that Xbox is worried about having a hard time competing with Nintendo.  This is priceless.

Nintendo:  Oh no, we are having a bit of a break down seeing all of our customers moving to Microsoft and Sony consoles.  We are losing rates.  What should we do?  OH I KNOW, we can create a console that would have better graphics and new features on it that will beat Microsoft and Sony.  We will call it the Wii U and soon every one will come back to playing out games.

(WHILE MICROSOFT AND SONY ARE CHILLING)

Microsoft:  I just found out that Nintendo is making a console that will be just like ours only more better.  We have to do something about this.  We have been making this console called Xbox 720 for some time now and I am not sure if we should release it anytime soon.  I am afraid that we will be having a hard time beating Nintendo.  Am I going too fast on releasing it when we are not completely done? Who cares, releasing the Xbox 720 next Christmas!

Sony:  Wow! Nintendo is making a console called Wii U and it seems as though that it will be better than our consoles.  What should we do? We are making a new console called PS4 and I am not so sure if we should release it around Nintendo's release date.  Maybe I should wait and see how the Wii U will turn out.  If it turns out better than our consoles, then I will start working on the PS4 and releasing it when it is fully completed and that it hopes to be better than the Wii U.

the_casualty : Yeah but no worst than Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, etc lol. What should they have called it, Xbox 3? That wouldn't really make sense, Microsoft kinda messed up when they called their 2nd system Xbox 360 because now they're stuck with that trend (or change their name all together which most people would also complain about).

Davideo7 : Lol yeah, Nintendo was about to do the same thing with the new console.  They were going to call it Wii 2, but instead, they are calling it Wii U.  They realized it.

Marcmoney : The Xbox original (Which would be the 2600 in your terms) was successful, the Xbox 360 (The 5200 in your terms) was even more successful. We can only think that the Xbox 720 will be the most successful.

Xbox sold: 24+ million units
Xbox 360 sold: 58+ million units

So if it were a trend, the next system would sell 75 or 100+ million.

Well I really do not think that this is going to be all that we hear. Honestly we are supposed to hear this kind of stuff at E3 and I am sure we will.

Wow only 3 game console brands. Here's my opinion on this.

Nintendo: Well the names were never the same. Each system had their own features. Can't say much because they make good consoles. Reason why their not selling? People complain it has bad graphics. Who cares?

Microsoft: The first 2 consoles had different names. Xbox, Xbox 360( OK maybe not that different) What are they gonna call their 3rd console?
Xbox 720? Xbox 540? Xbox 3? This just proves their copying Sony with the names. Plus the only new feature they can add is backwards compatibility. So, if they have that as their only new feature on their new console, your practically buying the 360 over again. If you ask me, I think backwards compatibility should be an add on to the 360. Microsoft is like SEGA ,releasing unfinished consoles. Ex. SEGA CD and 32x.

Sony: First company to have a numbering in their consoles AND be successful. Ps1, Ps2, Ps3. Each one kept building on top of what they already had. Ps4 would be a good name because you already know what to expect from Sony. They spend time like Nintendo to make a good console and they always have good ideas. (Ps2 being the first to be able to play online, I think) Ps3, built in Bluray DVD player.

Conclusion: Sony and Nintendo take time. Microsoft and SEGA didn't.

Hrm.

If they release some features to the public, tell me if one of them are worth my time, maybe I'll get it.

I don't really believe this will happen before next Christmas, if ever.

And what they name their systems cracks me up.

I hope Microsoft will realize their error and say: "We are sorry, but we need to delay the publication of the Xbox 720, due to technical difficulties."
I need to ask something, though :

Is it just me or is Microsoft releasing less games recently? Could they be concentrating staff on the new console to surprise Nintendo and Sony?
Hmm...

That's interesting, a new Xbox console to be released next year. I'm looking forward to how this console plays out.
