Metroid Zero Mission -- The Story Retold   SavatoX
Metroid... There's not much to say about it. The very first Metroid game was among my least favorites in the series, second only to Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS. It was too hard. I couldn't beat it. But then came around the remake, Metroid Zero Mission. I wasn't sure what to think, other than that I'm a big fan of the series, so why not. I watched my favorite YouTube Let's Player LP this game, and I was completely blown away. This is another reason why I got a GBA emulator, before I had learned about this site. At first glance, this game just looks like the original Metroid, but with a graphics update. But it's much more than that. This is the BOMB!
Story
Remember how Metroid Fusion had such a great story? Well, there's not really much to say here. Space Pirates are trying to replicate a dangerous life form known as the Metroid, and, Samus has to stop them. But it's a step from knowing nothing. There's a twist at the end, too. What twist am I talking about? Sorry! Not telling!
Graphics and Sound
This game has great graphics, and one of the best soundtracks of any game I've heard. Not only does this game's graphics surpass even Fusion's, but it also cuts out all of the lag that Fusion had (or sounded like it had, I couldn't tell). It takes the whole soundtrack of the original Metroid, and makes it ten times better.
Addictiveness
Between this game and Metroid Fusion, I would have a very difficult time deciding which I would rather play. But like Fusion, I watched the same LP for this game a million times. Even if you don't feel like playing it, it just kind of... sucks you in! If there is one game on the GBA that's too much fun to put down, it's this one.
Depth
No doubt about it, there is so much more exploration in this game than in Fusion. Where as Fusion required you to follow a more linear style, Zero Mission lets you roam around, pretty much at will. Then there's the twist. Still not telling. Though, you gotta admit, they did a good job of modifying the game. They even officially added Crateria as an area to explore. Some of the powers like the Speed Booster were also carried over from Super Metroid. There are even more bosses. Often, you'll come to these special 2x2 blocks that can only be destroyed after obtaining these "unknown items" discovered throughout the game. You'll discover their real purpose later. Metroid NEEDED this update. And for some reason if you actually PREFERED the original Metroid, it can be played after you finish the game on Normal mode.
Difficulty
Most of the old difficulty has been zapped. On any difficulty other than Hard, this is pretty easy. On Hard mode... not so much. I never managed to beat Ridley on Hard. Probably because you have less ammo and energy on Hard. Fusion was boss heavy, and that was a game that was hard only if you were sloppy and careless, but was easy if you had good concentration. Zero Mission on the other hand, is just too easy, no matter how you cut it. Okay, okay, I admit it. Kraid CRUSHED me, but it was my first time playing a Metroid game, and it was really late at night, so give me a break, alright? This game is very easy to learn, but just hard to play. If you have a Gamepad, plug it in and get the keyboard out of the way.
Conclusion
To conclude, Metroid Zero Mission was a necessary update. The graphical and audio quality was greatly increased, and bringing back memorable powerups from past Metroid games. It's a game well worth checking out. Would I recommend this game over Metroid Fusion? That's a tough decision. I can't say for sure which game I like best. Neither are my favorite game, or my least favorite. But hearing Final Attack again is enough to make me sit down in the chair and play this game until I fall asleep, and then when I wake up, I'll skip the shower and immediately continue playing. So, the end. I'm gonna go play-- Wait... what is that?? Ah, it's a Metroid!!! *dies*

Opening Review.....Review Opening Successful.
Introduction: Metroid Zero Mission is my favorite Metroid game to date mostly because it was the first Metroid game I ever played and mostly because it was released on my first console so nostalgia is a big part of this being my favorite Metroid game. Metroid Zero Mission was developed by the Nintendo R&D1 Team and was intended to be a remake of the classic NES game Metroid. It was released in America on February, 9th, 2004 and earlier or later in other countries. This game was directed by Yoshio Sakamoto and produced by Takehiro Izushi and other people I will mention further in the review. So now that we are done with the introduction let us get into the good stuff shall we.
Graphics: The graphics are great for the GBA and very fluent on a original GBA all the colors are vibrant and each area has its own feel and style that is what I like in a video game. But unfortunately it is not perfect if you play the game on the GBA SP it will make the graphic colors more vibrant like it should. But it will become slightly laggy  from the brightness this can be ether very helpful or very stressful depending on the situation. So overall the graphics are very good but perhaps too good since it causes the game to lag a bit on a SP but not much so it is not much a problem with that I give the graphics a 8/10.
Sound: The sound is a remastered version of the NES counterparts soundtrack and it is a very good one at that and I shall tell you why. The R&D1 team used the GBA sound chip to the best of it's abilities and you can tell if you listen to it. Also they do not just put music everywhere they put in in specific locations where the songs fit the atmosphere best from the desolate feel of the ships landing site, to the technological and metallic feel of  Tourian. Every song fits every scene great and it shows that the team put a lot of time and effort into this so for this I'm giving the sound a 10/10 good job on the sound.
Gameplay: Okay if there is one thing the R&D1 team did right that would be the gameplay and here is why that is. The gameplay is amazing for the time it really immersed you or at least for me it did from jumping to flips and firing your powerful arm cannon I mean seriously who does not want to fire a powerful arm cannon at things like Space Pirates and Metroid's and watch in satisfaction as they explode into nothingness. Also what is a Metorid game without power-ups there are lots of them such as the beam upgrades, suit upgrades, and many many more. Finally there are even some tricks that the team intentionally left to make things more fun such as the infinite bomb jump to literally get anywhere you want with the right timing, and there is the one the only the legendary wall jump which can be used to places you should not be with the right timing like the infinite bomb jump. Using these tricks along with many more can get you to places that you are not supposed to be in that point in time this is known as Sequence Breaking and this is very helpful if you are speed running the game so this game give the player freedom which I think is a really good design choice. So overall the gameplay is amazing and very very nice and the Non-Linear type of the game will make a lot of people happy so with this I give the Gameplay a 10/10.
Addictiveness: This game in my opinion is very addictive in fact I will probably continue to play this game for a long time and here is why. You see there is a specific reason that you must replay the game a lot there is a little thing called the gallery and you unlock pictures in the gallery by finishing the game competing specific requirements such as completing the game in a certain amount of time to completing the beating the game with a certain amount of suit upgrades and capacity upgrades. Trying to get all the pictures in the gallery will take a lot of time and a lot of dedication and that is the reason it is addicting. So overall the game is very addicting with the gallery and stuff which is why i'm giving the Addictiveness a 10/10.
Story: This game does one thing that many games cannot do I can tell a story in few words and the rest can be left up to the gameplay and this game pulls it off with flying colors. You see a Galactic Bounty Hunter known as Samus Aran being given a mission from the Galactic Federation HQ her mission is to go to the planet known as Zebes which also happens to be Samus's home planet or at least where she was raised and destroy all the Metroid's as well as the bio mechanical brain know as simply Mother Brain. She goes down to the surface using her ship and hops out at least that is what the sounds indicate during that period it displays one of the only text in the game saying this was her so called "Zero Mission" She then begins her mission to destroy the Metroid's and Mother Brain now I won't spoil too much but let's just say that it tells the story amazingly and so I give the story a 10/10.
Depth: The depth of this game is um ok at best and here is why. You see the only thing they add to the game is a extra map which I will not go into detail due to it being a spoiler but other than that there is basically nothing I think the team tried so hard to make the original content as good as possible but not putting enough time into the extra content but that's fine. So overall there is not that much extra content besides the content recreated from the NES game so that is why I'm going to give it a 6/10.
Difficulty: You see this is the hardest part of the game for me to determine it can be either really hard or really easy depending on the difficulty. On the easy difficulty you are basically unstoppable every enemy has at least half of there heath and you do more damage also it takes more hits for you to die. Also normal difficulty is exactly what it sounds like it is moderately difficult and you take more damage than usual and it takes more hits to kill a enemy. Finally with hard mode you are very likely to die most of the enemies are in there stronger variant and they can do a lot of damage and you can't do much damage to it but you can deal with it if you are good enough. So overall it is hard to pinpoint the difficulty because there are different so I'm giving the the average score of 5/10 as a placeholder it's a different difficulty for different people so that is why I give that score.
Conclusion: This is a great game that should be played by any Metroid fan or any fan of Nintendo trust me this game will not disappoint you so play it if you ever get the chance that is why i'm giving the game the overall score of a 9.5/10.
End of Review have a nice day Commander Adam Malkovich.....

Metroid Zero Mission Review   gamer29475
Metroid Zero Mission Review: By gamer29475
Hi, it's gamer29475, and here is one of my favorite games for the GBA. Metroid Zero Mission.
Story:
This game is a remake of the original Metroid, so the story is going to be the same, save for the last stretch of the game. The story is that the evil Mother Brain is causing trouble on Planet Zebes, and Samus is sent to kill it. Simple, but what do you expect from a remake of an NES game?
4/10
Graphics:
In my opinion, these graphics are the best of the 2D Metroid games. The sprites are wonderfully redrawn, and the backgrounds and areas are faithfully recreated. From the adventurous start of Brinstar, to the fiery atmosphere of Norfair, all the areas are a beauty to look at. If I saw this without knowing it was a GBA game, I would have thought it was a DS game with how good the game looks.
10/10
Sound:
The sound in this game is great. The boss themes are fast-paced, intense, and capture the feeling of facing an evil monstrosity. The adventure themes are catchy as well, especially Brinstar's. The chase sequence's music is very intense, and catches the feeling of running away from an exploding planet.
9/10
Gameplay: This game is standard Metroid fare. But that's hardly a bad thing. Metroid is a Metroidvania style game. You explore labyrinths, looking for power ups, and the next boss. But to do that you need parts for your suit. From the essential Morph Ball, to the Speed Booster, all the power ups are necessary to beat the game. The parts are cleverly hidden, and they require true skill to get. You feel so satisfied when you hear that familiar item chime.
10/10
Addictiveness:
After you beat the game, they're are lots of advanced techniques that you may not know of. Examples are bomb hopping and shinesparking. These techniques make multiple playthroughs more fun because you can try out things you've never done before, and try alternate solutions. This game is basically a speed run magnet.
10/10
Depth:This is a simple game at it's core. The simplicity of it is a good thing. A guy who's never played a Metroid game before can play this. but there are many advanced techniques for experts. This game has things to offer for newbies, speed runners, and completionists alike. And that's what makes it good.
8/10
Difficulty: This game is manageable for most of it. It's not super easy, but it's not too hard. The difficulty ramps up towards the end, but not by much. The balanced difficulty is a very good thing.
6/10
Overall: Metroid Zero Mission is a wonderful GBA game, and one of the finest games you could possibly play on the GBA. It's pretty cheap on eBay, about 20$. So if you have money, get it NOW!
9.9/10

it may have zero in the title but this games score is a solid 10   Yargishner
Metroid Zero mission is a remake of the NES classic game Metroid . The original game originally released in America all the way back in 1987,this remake however was released back in 2004. For those of you who may not have ever played a Metroid game before this is the best game to start with. This game is a lot darker then just about any other Nintendo game out there but it also manages to do so while still being somewhat kid friendly.Theirs no cursing and no blood plus your only shooting space aliens so the game is not to violent at all for the parents out there. Fun fact Nintendo even stated that these games were heavily inspired by the horror movies Aliens.
To be fair though I always thought that both the 1st 2 games were the worst games in the series. As a matter of fact I didn't get into Metroid tell Super Metroid and even then I didn't play that when it first released. However when I did play that game I instantly fell in love with it. Everything about that game was perfect from the somewhat creepy atmosphere to the soundtrack and even the difficulty seemed balanced. Fast forward 10 years and the original Metroid was way overshadowed by Super Metroid. So henceforth Nintendo decided to remake the original Metroid and by remake I don't mean the current way of doing things with HD remasters. This game has been completely revamped the soundtrack is remixed, theirs new areas to explore, a map and the game feels new and even today it does not feel outdated. The game actually feels more like a slightly improved Super Metroid prequel then the original Metroid.
graphics 10/10
Metriod Zero Missions graphics is amazing for the handheld. Zero Mission takes more from Fusion and Super Metriod then it does the original game so be prepared for a completely revamped experience. Like the original NES classic pretty much everything sets up the Atmosphere in the game to give it a kind of creepy feel. The sprites are very good and the enemy design is flawless I would say these are some of the best 2d graphics in a game ever its truly a peace of artwork and it even holds up today.
sound 9/10
Now for the sound in this game is outstanding. If it wasn't for the music the game would still be good though but it helps create tension and helps it make it feel as if you are actually stranded on a alien planet by yourself and you have to go deeper and deeper into this crazy place. If I had any complaints about the sound is that sound effect that keeps beeping when your low on health it gets really annoying.
Story 10/10
Zero Missions takes place on the planet Zebes where it is Samus mission to find and exterminate the Mother brain who I assume wants to take over the galaxy. After that your basically stranded by yourself on a alien planet. This game basically sets up the characters for its sequels. So the plot is nice and simple without being to simple and keeps the game going. Theirs also a nice little plot twist for the hardcore metroid fan at the end of the game (no spoilers here from me).
Addictiveness, Difficulty and depth 10/10
Unless you have played and beaten the original game to death this game is really addictive. If you played the original game you will know where almost everything is however at the end of the game theirs a completely new area and the game turns into Metroid 1.5. Without giving out any spoilers I'll just say the first half of the new area has you play as Samus only armed with a stun pistol and without her power suit and you have to sneak your way around almost like a futuristic version of Metal gear solid. This new section basically sets up the plot for the Prime games and any Metroid fan will be pleased. So I would say this game has a lot to it. Also after you beat it you can play a full version of the original unaltered version of the game so I would say this game is worth every penny. If I had any complaints about this game is that it is pretty easy and short. Note the hard mode makes up for it but you have to play it on normal first before you can play the hard mode.
overall 10/10
Zero Mission is a great game to start off with if your new to the series or veterans alike. It takes everything that was wrong with the original and gives it elements of its much better sequel Super Metroid to make a game in my opinion even better then Super Metroid. Although it may seem a little short anyone somewhat into video games should definitely get this game.

So if its the FIRST mission how is it zero........... oh well MYSTERY   ThanatosUnraveld
A long long time ago (wow I just started this review and I already lied to you guys this can only go up from here right?)  In a not so far far away galaxy lived a young man by the name Metroid, or so everyone thought until we found a shocker by the name of Samus Arran and time in the gaming world was not the same sense. But that was back on the NES and sadly the original Metroid has not aged well at all (one day ill do a review on it but not now, now imma do Zero Mission, you know for y'all who didn't know that) so what do they do with classic old games? They re release them and they did that with Metroid under the name of Metroid Zero Mission, so now we shall take a look into what this game does and bask in all of its glory.
So this game was released on the Gameboy Advance which of course looks WAY better then the NES so you would expect that Zero Mission would look a crap ton better then the original Metroid and GASP it looks a crap ton better then the original Metroid no only did Samus and the textures get a face lift that could only be done with spazers and duct tape but they also added backgrounds to well the background (so I guess that Ansem has to find a new place to take a cat nap at?) and they do a really good job at it too each area that you visit has its own different backgrounds and they are all drawn really good which is always a plus in my handy dandy notebook. And the floor and wall textures are also really well done they all have a vibrant and lush look to them you walk into Brinstar its looks different then Crateria but they all look very well done they also done it in such a way that the game doesn't look aged at all and that is also another good thing in my book. And Samus herself looks really good to she has her own distinct look and really pops out in the environment, not to much to be annoying and also not to little to get lost in the environment itself (as if that would ever be a problem in this game.) All the baddies be it the enemies, Kraid or Ridley (not Mother Brain, that much at least) has also got a face lift the most noticeable being Kraid member how UGLY and so mole rat/dinosaur he looked ( ever wondered why Ridley looked way over weight because of the fact that his leg sprite is in front of him so he looks like he's got a beer belly, the more you know) well he's still fat but they used his Super Metroid design and made him gigantic to bad he doesn't use that big body oh his and try to smash Samus. If there is anything bad I could say about the graphics it would be that some of the enemies are just re colors of other enemies that you fought before but it doesn't happen very often but if your a design nut it might (might) bug you but it doesn't bug me just noticeable when you do see it. So the game looks GREAT even for a gameboy advance game so ill give it a 8 out of 10.
Sound is something that rocks in Metroid games (well most of them *cough cough* other M, return of samus, Fusion) and sense this is a remake the developers already had music and they took some of it and remixed it and they also added onto some of the old one to make the tracks less repetitive and in some of the new areas like Chozodia have there own unique track and so does the new boss fights put into the game the soundtrack is also varied from instrumental to choral to jazzy so they really went all out when it came to what they did with the soundtrack. In terms on the sounds you hear in game they all have that same Metroid feel to them from the sound of a regular shot from the beam cannon or a charged shot, the sound of a normal morph ball bomb, the sound of a missile smacking something in the face (ooooohhhhh ya cant ever get a nuff of that sound now can we) to that weird sound Samuses suit (at least I hope its the suit or she has some weird battle cries, well I guess she is part bird............) makes when ever you take damage it just has a full array of sounds and I never really question why they choose that sound for that specific thing or action or what not (I'm not sure if they reused any of the sound effects from the original so I ant gonna say they did or didn't so ill just say they might of sounds good? Good.) Sadly I cant say a whole lot about the soundtrack because while the sound track is great it does have remixes which is good and all its just that if you liked the original you will like the remake which is the way it should be but for a reviewer you kind of wish for more they did the original tracks really really well so ill give it that and the sound effects are great to and they all sound like they belong to the world they are in, with that ill give the Sound a 9 out of 10.
Ill say now if you don't like a nonlinear game with a (sort of) big world that you have to roam around in to get anywhere then you are not going to like this game if you are then you might fine this game kind of Addictive which is a great thing because its a hand held so you could be walking around town playing it and having loads of fun then you run into a hobo and end up getting lectured about how kids now a days and blah blah blah (oops did I get a bit off subject there?)  Also if your a collect-a-thon kind of person then this game is also right up your ally because this game has ALOT of things you can collect and if your someone who likes to complete maps (odd ball in the family ain't ya) you could also enjoy this game or if you just like to feel more powerful as the game goes on this game is also for you. I personally liked this game a lot I'm a big fan of nonlinear gameplay with interesting things to find and open worlds that are fun to explorer so this game was a-ok for someone like me. If you like any of the before mentioned types of gameplay then I think you will have fun not just playing this game once put a minimum of........ 4.6 times through and with that randomized numerical value of the way ill give you real one which is a 6 out of 10.
So a metroid game with a Story unless its the lore in a Prime game there really isn't that much (same old adage of arcade design which means little to no story) but it does have (some kind of) a story which is: A Bounty Hunter by the name of Samus Arran is sent by the Galactic Federation (not going to learn bout them till Metroid 2) to kill this being known as Mother Brain after a period of time we find out a strange being known as Ridley (leader of a evil group known as Space Pirates radical name bro) is also going to the planet that Samus is on called Zebes (or Zebth) after defeating Kriad and Ridley (which you have to because there's a statue of him in a specific room, which does that mean he is a guard of Mother Brain or something like that? Just wonderin) Samus goes and fights mother Brain after that she rides off into the sunset (you know after blowing the planet into a kablewie also a new word) or so she thinks *SPOILERS* (don't know what to do just highlight the text to read if you don't want the story spoiled don't read it) after Samus escapes the planet she gets shot by space pirates and ends up on Chozoda (we ant gonna technically learn about this place to Metroid Prime) there she find outs the space pirates are on the planet for some reason and after she gets her suit back she rigs the planet to blow and escapes via escape pod and lives to be in more games *SPOILERS* They did add more to the story which is great so ill give it that much credit it might not be the grandest of stories but it works in the context of the Metroid universe so ill give the story a 3 out of 10.
How much Depth can a open world gave it collectives have well a slurp of a lot that's how much, but ill explain more If you are someone who wants to collect all the items in the game all the missile expansions, all the energy tanks, all the unknown items that wont work on your suit just yet then you could be looking for a decent sized game ahead of you and the amount of time it will take you is dependent on how smart (or desperate) you are about getting it all you are looking at a game that would take at max 8 hours (if you really suck at finding hidden stuff.) Sadly if you are not someone who really wants to get every tiny thing and just want to finish the game with the minimal then you can beat this game in under 5 hours, and of course you could pull out the 'its a hand held game' argument but still you could ask for a bit more in the overall length department sure the orignal game could be beaten quickly if you knew what to do and where to go but that doesnt mean the remake had to be so short, heck they added more areas to the remake but it still turned out to be a very short game (logic at its finest ladies and gents) after beating the game you unlock a harder mode adn the ability to play the orignal Metroid which does add to the over all things to do. Even though the game itself can be short in terms of over all length the amound of things to find in the game and the stuff you can unlock give this game the extra omph it needs to let me give this games Depth a 8 out of 10.
Metroid games arnt known to have high Difficullty with the exception of the original game and they must of thought it was so hard they made this game WAY to easy im not sure how but they ended up making Samus a bit too fit for the job she undertook and boy does it sure show i personaly think they didnt really change how the game acts to samus. What i mean is that the enemies seem to still act like samus cant shoot in all 8 directions so enemies or bosses that was/ might of been a cahllenge in the original is nothing more then a pebble under your heavy metal boot and it does feel good to mow everything down in your path it becomes aparent later on when they strip you down to nothing but a imprompto tazer that you are up to that point way over powered. Once you do get to the 'challanging' part of the game all you have to do is sneak which can be hard if your like me and suck at being silent but if your not then all this part does is just make you become a female batman (mhm smexy.) I also cant say that the controls are too difficult to get used to because its not like they do anything complex with them, you also only need to fight a handful of scripted enemies and a few bosses so that also cuts down on the amount of effert it takes beat this already easy game. If you couldnt already guess this game is very very easy, compared to the original game this game is like breathing air (its really hard for me becuase just like blinking i forget how to do it every now and then) so il lgive the Diffiucly a 3 out of 10.
Welp just like Samuses *ahem* 'zero mission' this review is coming to a end weather you liked the original or not i think that Metroid Zero Mission is a great game to play if you are gong on a long time and is not driving or if you want to buy a new gameboy game or if your just have some open time sometime and have this game and have never beaten it. If you have seen the metroid series and always wanted to see if its for you or not then i can say that this is one of the best game in the series to start with, or if you are a fan but never picked up the original or this version i think you should do yourself a soild and pick it up either way ill give Metroid Zero Mission a Overall rating of 9 out of 10, so see you next time Space Cowgirl

Metroid Zero Mission: The remake of Metroid   justinfeena1
Metroid Zero Mission is a remake of the first Metroid.
Story: The story in Zero Mission is the same as in Metroid but a bit longer. Samus Aran goes to the planet Zebes and fights the Space Pirates. The story is good and enough for an adventure-game like Metroid because it's more about the gameplay.
Gameplay: Like in any other 2D Metroid game you're walking through many different areas, kill aliens, try to collect as many items as possible and get new equipment. The areas are okay, not as good and creative as in Metroid Fusion but you like to see them. The enemies are well known from the other games of the series and nothing very special, even the boss fights aren't challenging. The thing that hasn't change is that there are almost uncountable hidden expansions for Missiles, Super Missiles, Power Bombs and Energy Tanks. Every time you get new equipment you want to go back and try to find some new expansions. The equipment you get is also known from other games but still cool. But unless in Super Metroid the enemies are not that difficult, they are quite easy most of the time.
Graphic/Areas: The graphic is good but the different areas were more creative in Metroid Fusion.
Sound: Ok the areas are better in Fusion but the sound is better in Zero Mission. Here you have the old one of a kind atmosphere with the great and simple tunes like in Super Metroid.
Conclusion: Metroid Zero Mission is a very good remake of the first Metroid game and when you play through the game then you unlock the original Metroid and can play it. The graphic is as good as in Metroid Fusion but the areas itselves are less creative but the sound is better than in Fusion. At the end I would say that Metroid Zero Mission is better than Metroid Fusion but can't really reach the masterpiece that is Super Metroid.

Metroid:Zero Mission. Leaps and Bounds above it's inspiration   name543
I have to admit.. I wasn't a fan of the original Metroid. The graphics struck me as dull to tell the truth and the game play never managed to suck me in and keep me playing. So of course, I wasn't very hopeful for this game. I expected it to be the original Metroid with a new coat of paint. After playing through it, I'm willing to admit I was very wrong.
Graphics: I was impressed with the graphics of this game. Especially the bosses. Each enemy and environment made me at least stop to admire it for a moment. Each environment had graphics that really showed what the GBA was capable of, providing the perfect backdrop for your adventure. As I said before, this is especially true with the bosses. Kraid managed to be intimidating in this game, which is more than I could say for him in the original Metroid. Ridley actually looked like a large, deadly dragon in this game. Mother Brain also had a marked improvement, showed by the detail that was put into her. Mecha Ridley even managed to be intimidating. The amazing backdrops, along with the great looking sprites are what made me give this game it's high graphics score. The cut-scenes even further show off the graphics, with detailed sprites and crisp graphics I didn't expect to see in a GameBoy game.
Sound: Of course, graphics aren't much if you don't have good sounds to really improve the experience. I was glad to see that this game didn't disappoint sound-wise either. Each weapon made a satisfying noise when it made contact. This helped imagine the impact after each weapon connected. The music was also amazing, especially the music in Kraid's lair. The soundtrack really was a high point for me in this game, which really surprised me. This is a GameBoy game that was making me stop and listen to the music, a first for me.
Addictiveness: As you probably know from all other Metroid games, this game can be very addictive. This mostly owes to the large amount of collectibles that cover every area of the game. Each one is rewarding, making you just that little bit more powerful for the next wave of aliens you need to kill. This means you'll spend a lot of time looking for each one. But likely, you won't even find them all in your first play through, this is part of the reason this game is so addictive. It makes you want to check every nook and cranny, trying to find every item you can. Especially in the time limit for the best ending, adding even more replay value in trying to get all the different endings. This is a game you'll most likely play at least twice, or even more time in order to collect everything in the shortest times possible.
Story: The story in this game is another aspect I didn't expect. Especially with the addition of cut-scenes. This makes it easier to get a story through even though most of the game is just exploring. While I won't go into any spoilers, I will tell you that anyone who hasn't already seen this games story, will enjoy it. Especially a plot twist just when you think it's done. The cut-scenes I mentioned earlier also help contribute to this. Many of them manage to show at least a bit of the story, such as Mother Brain seeing Samus enter the planet. Or one near the end involving Samus and the Chozo. This game has one of the best stories of the 2d Metroid games. Maybe only beaten by Super Metroid or Fusion.
Depth: Do I even have to go into the depth of this game? As you've probably noticed from my earlier mentions, this game has a lot of depth to it. Especially with the items. Each area has plentiful extra rooms that you'll never have to enter, but can get you extra items for looking for them. The maps you find through the game helps, as you'll definitely need to know the layout of the world if you really want to get a a hundred percent completion. Even better, it offers a playable version of the original Metroid in it. So even though I'm not a fan of the original, this game has the original for you if you really want to play that.
Difficulty:I found this game pretty difficult through my first play through. Though it might get easier each time you play, your first run will probably involve getting lost at least once or twice. You might even need a guide to find your way through the areas. The enemies also can prove challenging sometimes, especially when lava is involved that you might accidentally get knocked into. Most of the bosses prove to be difficult to beat. Though Ridley and Mecha Ridley were much easier than I would have expected at this point in the game. Mecha Ridley can be challenging though for those collecting everything, as it's much more powerful if you have all the items in the game. Mother Brain was definitely the most challenging point for me though, needing to dodge attacks while attempting not to fall into the lava on the floor.
Wrapping up:In conclusion, this game really surprised me with how good it was. I was expecting the original Metroid game with better graphics. Which though it did have much better graphics, it really improved on every single part of the game. If you're a fan of the Metroid series, I'd say this game is a must play for you.

Metroid - Zero Mission Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 9.8
Metroid - Zero Mission on the Game Boy Advance is a very good game.  When I played it, I thought that it was the best handheld Metroid game ever, but I might be wrong since I have not played all of the Metroid games.  At first I thought it was a remake of the first Metroid on the NES since the first part of the level was similar, but when I started playing it, it was sort of different.  I really enjoyed playing this game and I would never thought that I would actually like Metroid games.  I can't wait to play more Metroid games.
Graphics - 10
The graphics are incredibly amazing.  I never knew how good it was till I played it.  I have been playing the NES version and it is just boring, but when I look at this, I cannot believe my eyes.  The effects are awesome, with the shooting and the power ups.  They make it so cool.
Sound - 10
The music in the game is pretty much a song from Metroid.  It would play it most of the time and it is a good comparison to where Samus is at.  The sound effects are great too.  I hear the shooting and getting the power ups and it is just sounds good.
Addictiveness - 9
I would play this game a lot now.  It can get addicting for me since I really love playing adventure games.  I would play this very often.
Story - 8
The story is good.  It has been told that Space Pirates plan to replicate Metroid to destroy all living things.  Meanwhile, Samus was picked for the mission and she went to Zebes to explore the planet.  She then sees Kraid and Ridley there and defeats them both.  Then she goes and destroys the Mother Brain.  When Samus is about to leave the planet in her ship, it was attacked by Space Pirates, causing her to crash at back on to Zebes, near the Space Pirate Mothership.  While she explores it, she eventually reaches a robot form of Ridley.  After defeating it, she manages to escape the planet using one of the Space Pirate's shuttles, while the Mother ship blows up.  That is pretty much the whole story.  It sounds very good and it is a good adventure to play.
Depth - 8
The game has a lot of good features.  It is worth playing.  Of course, in the game you get power ups that can be helpful for you in the mere future of the game.  You can also get good items to use from the upgrades.  That is pretty much all it is in this game.  Your life is at the corner and it starts at 99 and you can get easy health from enemies if you are good at it.  I really enjoyed the game and it has many more things in the game that will interest you.
Difficulty - 4
The game is not that hard.  I had no problems with the enemies, but the levels are so confusing for me.  I have problems on where to go and what to do.  Until I find out what to do, I sure to have more fun with it and just keep on playing.  The bosses are okay.  They can be difficult, but there is always a way to beating them.
Wrap Things Up...
Metroid - Zero Mission is a good game to play.  I highly recommend trying this game out if you have not already.  Metroid is popular these days and the old games of them are still fun. :)

Metroid: Zero Mission review by DavidLS   DavidLS
This is a good remake of the original Metroid game. It have more upgrades, bosses and places to explore and more story than the original. But at the same time, not too far from the original. And it's made so both hardcore Metroid players and new players can follow the story, play the game and enjoy it. But it's still just a remake. A plus is that you now can save. And you have a map. You can quickly learn the controls and the tactics of the game. So I will highly recomend this game to anybody who read this.

Metroid Zero Mission   Mobouis1
Metroid Zero Mission is a remake of the first metroid game, but they change some stuff in it. You will recognize them as you continue to play the great game.
Graphics: 10 The graphics have improve from metroid fusion and look better than ever. The suit look better and the background inculding enemies look better.
Sound: 10 The music is awesome and the music is remakes of the original one.
Addictiveness: 9 The game is so addicting for me to play, becasue of the gameplay, music, and using your brain to get expansion. I would play this all day, but I got other things to do.
Story: 9 Story is the same from the original one including the starting point. You start on a unknown planet and go looking for the space pirates. One thing that is different is that they continue the story from the original one where Samus got shot down and lost your power suit. Yes you could play as Zero Suit Samus in the story after a certain point of the game.

Depth: 9 The game is going take a while to beat if you get easily lost, but will be easy if you know how to sequence break the game. Which could be done easily. Then you need to expand your ammo and health by looking for expansion that is spread across the planet.
Difficulty: 5 The game is easy if you know how to dodge their attacks and know how to beat them. Some bosses will give you some hard time, but they are still beatable. Only problem if you playing this game for the first time that you will get lost.
Overall I give the game a 9.7. The thing I got to say about this game is that no huge metroid fans should not miss out on this game even if they already beat the original one.

Remake of a classic   Austin Winter
Metroid Zero Mission is the remake of the original metroid game. It retells the story of samus in more depth than the first. The layout of the map is pretty much the same, minus the confusing labyrinth of color that was the first game. It has much more atmosphere and feeling in terms of level design and boss battles. Each area sets up the mood for the boss, and the bosses are fast paced. The power ups and upgrades are the same as the other games, with a bit of a touch up. This game also extends beyond the first to tell the story of samus losing her suit and powers. She has to travel through a space pirate infested mothership to retrieve her lost power and lay waste to the pirate forces once more. The speedy pace of the game allows for many speed run, as well as the ability to skip items allows for many challenge runs. All in all this game has all the heart and soul of a metroid game, my true favorite gaming franchise. This game can introduce a newbie to the series and the amazing universe this franchise builds.

Metroid Zero Mission my thoughts   brando257
Metroid Zero mission is a game that is a remake of the original metroid game, but it has some story, the graphics and animations are much better then the original, and some new game mechanics have been added to make the game-play easier, but it still has that old metroid charm. It is like Mario, as in you travel left and right on a screen to progress, although, in metroid zero mission its different. In metroid, you still travel left or right, but you have to search and destroy stuff to progress, sometimes, you even have to go the entirely opposite way! In the maps of metroid zero mission, you can go wherever you want, that is, if you can get there. Now, I will say this, metroid zero mission was the first game I played for more than 1 hour, I played it for hours a day, but that doesn't mean you will like it. If you don't like to back-track a bunch for items, then this isn't the game for you, it's actually your worst nightmare! In conclusion, this is still, years later, an amazing game to play when you have the time, so you should definitely give it a chance. I thank you for reading my review.                                                     -a fellow vizzed lover

Metroid: Ground Zeros   Uzar
Emergency Order! Review all games!
...I'm on it!
Metroid Zero Mission came out for the Gameboy Advanced in an era long past. An era where Metroid was a series taken seriously by Nintendo. But this game did something that I've genuinely never seen before. It is an updated version of the very first Metroid game, but actually serves to replace the first game canonically. As in, the NES Metroid is now only mostly canon. Anyway, this game is really what really got me into the Metroid series. But without further adieu, we've got a mission to start!
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics for this game are fantastic! Like one would expect from the GBA, the sprites look great! They all have varying amounts of detail to them. From the tiny Geemer, to Samus herself, to even bigger guys. There is a fantastic amount of detail! Although obviously the bigger the enemy the higher detail they have. But seeing the tiny spikes on Geemers; along with the little legs (tentacles?)those Rippers have wiggling about. And Samus both with and without the power suit look amazing as well. That just blew me away! The Bosses all look threatening, but I can't help but stare at them in this game.
One thing that takes away from all this is this; similar to an old RPG, you'll find slightly stronger recolors of enemies. Which is a sign of laziness if you ask me.
The backgrounds and stages themselves are a slightly different tale. If you pay enough attention the floors and ceilings look mostly the same. Again, with only color differences. The backgrounds also suffer from this. Although areas like Crateria and Chozodia all had a spectacular amount of detail and attention put into them. They had a lot of work put into level design and backgrounds. At least a lot more than the rest of Zebes' caverns...Overall, none of the background and levels look particularly bad. It's just a lot of reusing a select few constantly.
Sound: 9/10
This game sports some fantastic remixes. Along with...Vocals? Most areas will be a more refined version of what the NES and SNES gave us. Although there are a few areas which have chant vocals to them. It reminds me of the Magmoor Caverns from Metroid Prime. It's those kind of vocals. It's a nice touch to the areas you find them in. Although if you play for long enough sessions you might get tired of them. But with or without them; the music is simply amazing! I enjoyed all the music this game has to offer.
The sound effects aren't that bad either. There aren't too many however. Shooting plays a little "pew" noise, a charged shot does a lower version of that sound effect also. Bombs and missiles share the same explosion sound. While super bombs and super missiles have their own effects as well. Aside from those, the only other effects you'll hear are Bosses roaring, and Samus grunting when hit. On one hand, the game is kind of lacking in sound effects. But on the other hand, it doesn't need many to begin with. What it has
worked fine. And you'll be busy focusing on the music too much to care also. :P
Addictiveness: 7/10
This game is pretty darn addictive! I almost needed to be surgically removed from this game. It's definitely a game you'll need a guide for at least once. But once you get on a roll you'll want to keep playing forever! The puzzles are just so satisfying. And as you get power ups you'll start feeling like the awesome space warrior Samus is! And that feeling alone can keep you interested. It's something I definitely haven't felt in other games until now anyway.
There are also multiple "endings" (More on this in the Depth section). And that is also a good reason to want to play this a few times over.
Depth: 9/10
There is a LOT of depth in this game. But this is Metroid. If you don't expect much depth then you must have never played or heard of it before. :P Anyway, the depth. The story itself isn't THAT deep. Honestly, the speedrunners can beat this game in about an hour. (And a few endings you only get through completing it in under 2 hours)
However, there are TONS of hidden items. There are some that are easy to find, and others that you'd need to do some serious breaks in logic (and some luck) to get. There are tons of missile tanks, super missile tanks, super bombs, energy tanks, and upgrades to find. And the already huge world you can explore has a ton of these. Both very well hidden, and in the open. And once you get certain power ups you'll need to do some serious backtracking in order to get quite a few items in previous areas which would have been impossible without. Needless to say; there's almost no way you could 100% this game without some help.
Another thing worth noting is the multiple endings to this game. They aren't really endings because the story ends the same way no matter what. But the picture you see at the very end does change. The pictures change depending on your clear time and your percent of items found.
Story: 4/10
Metroid has a somewhat rich story. But this game isn't as story driven as others. Basically, it goes like this.
This is Samus' first mission. Or at least the first documented one. The mission? Eliminate Mother Brain and destroy all Metroids on planet Zebes! This used to be Samus's homeworld though. And to arrive to see it completely in ruins is a shock! It seems the Space Pirates are at work once again. Now get in there and start shooting! And help yourself to any upgrades the Chozo left for you. (As nice as they are, you think with their knowledge of Samus coming back they'd also know about the Space Pirates...)
It's an interesting story, sure. But it's almost all explained in any depth in the manual, or in materials outside the game. In the game all you get are little hints of 5 second flashbacks. In the game the story isn't explicitly told. But it's enough to keep you interested and to keep going.
Difficulty: 7/10
This game has a good sense of difficulty. It slowly gets harder and harder. But at the same time, you'll be looking for power ups and ways around or through each challenge. It makes solving each of them really satisfying. It gets a bit infuriating; but if you don't give up you'll be rewarded nicely.
The Zero Suit segment is especially difficult...
There's quite a bit of backtracking, and getting lost too. It adds to the difficulty a lot. But this seems to be another staple of the Metroid series.
Fighting enemies isn't too difficult. I think overall I had trouble with only two or three bosses in the game. The bosses can easily tear into you. But if you have a ton of missiles. You can just spam away with them and be done within seconds. And that REALLY takes the edge away from the big and threatening looking bosses. They may be bigger than you, but they die better than you too. ;)
The controls are tight and responsive. Like the GBA itself. The controls are simple, tight, and responsive. I really liked how easy the controls were for such a difficult game. There's even a guide to what controls do what in the start menu! Talk about convenient. Although I doubt you would ever need to consult it a second time.
To sum it up. This is a very pleasantly difficult game. If you're a longtime Metroid fan, want to get into Metroid, or maybe you just with Samus wasn't so horrible in Smash Bros. This is a game for you! It's a good game for veterans and newbies alike. Although this is a game that takes some actual effort to get through. Nothing TOO bad. But it will NOT hold your hand the whole time.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
