DBZ: The RPG   siksiksikki
In all my years of gaming- especially related to the Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, or Dragon Ball GT properties- I have yet to
find a game that has allowed me to play through the Dragon Ball Z saga in such a fun and interactive way as this. Not even
newer games on the market like Dragon Ball Xenoverse have you experience the rich world of Dragon Ball Z to such an
amazing extent as Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku 2.
The graphics, considering it's status as a Game Boy Advance game are an amazing representation of Son Goku and Friends
(see what I did there? Eh? No? Fine.) The sprites are adorable, while still being recognizable. Everything is detailed despite the
size from Goku's golden strands of hair while Super Saiyan to the spots on a T-Rex's back to the spotless sheen on a killer
skull faced robot that also serves a link to the original series, Dragon Ball.
The music, while it can get a little repetitive like many game boy advance soundtracks still help to get you into the mood to either
aimlessly mill around one of the cities, fly around the world, or pummel either Cell or some of the other iconic DBZ baddies into
the ground. Nothing too special or out of the ordinary. As for sound effects, this game definitely got it right. The sound effects for
ki blasts sound right at home, and the Kamehameha Wave definitely has a wavy sound to it- at least in my ears it does.
Replayability? You betcha! Depending on the type of gamer you are of course. If you're like me, then you're the type to focus more
on the story your first time around. Beat the game and focus on the main goals- And once the credits have rolled you start up your
second save file and get to collecting all the extra details. The world has a lot of cool things to explore and a lot of areas that make you
work on each and every character respectively, so this game CAN be time consuming if that's what you're looking for.
The story... Well, I mean, come on man. It's Dragon Ball Z. There really isn't much to be said that hasn't already been stated. Of course
it's story is fantastic! This game in particular covers everything starting from the end of the first Legacy of Goku right up until the end of the
Cell Saga. And, as an added bonus, if you find yourself in the right place at the right time you may find yourself facing down some rather
iconic foes from the Dragon Ball Z movies! Figured these games wouldn't be complete without Cooler and/or Meta Cooler? I thought so
as well, and trust me- they don't leave you hanging!
As for the difficulty of the game... It's, a little sad, but it really isn't challenging necessarily. There are a couple parts that might have you
stuck for a few minutes, but if you pay close attention and handle the controls well enough, you won't have to worry about it very much. The
game handles itself in a generally familiar RPG architecture in that as long as you spend the little extra time in an area to level yourself up
a few or more times, you won't have very many issues leading up to the next big boss fight. However, if you're like me and you end up rushing in headlong (head cha-la! Okay, I'll stop now.) you'll find the difficulty you might be wanting, where you're receiving WAY more than you're giving.

A must play for dbz fans   noobpwner59
This game is the sequel to the game, DBZ: Legacy of Goku, that was a game that was not very well received. Most people would think that you would have to be a fool to make a sequel, but whoever decided to make a sequel was a genius. The team used the gameplay mechanics to its full potential and made the DBZ game that the fans wanted from the first. How good was it, heres the breakdown.
Graphics: The graphics are not the best on the GBA, thats for sure, they do look good. The sprites look like the characters and the mode 7 map looks great. The animations are not the best, they do look like, punching, blasting, ect. The games opening movie also earns this game bonus points for being one of the highest quality cartoon clip I've seen on GBA. Overall, they aren't perfect, they still look good. 8/10
Sound: The sound FX really shine on this game, they are really high quality and sound great. The music can also be pretty catchy, its not as good as some soundtracks, it still sounds really good, although its not perfect. 7/10
Gameplay, design and addictiveness: The gameplay is a lot like the orginal Legacy of Goku. You walk around and punch people, and use energy attacks. There are RPG elements like level ups and character switching. These elements are great and the gameplay feels alot more fun than the first. The design is another good element, the game is not as tedious as the first. There are only a few fetch quests, and the game is alot more fun. Although not much has changed, it has improved in many ways, making it a lot more fun. You will definitely wamt to finish the game. 8/10
Story: The story is pulled right from the show, but I have no problem with that. It captures every feeling from the show better than any DBZ game in the past. It has a great story and is presented in a strong way. It feels really intense and fans of the show will appreciate the effort the writers put in to keep it true to the show. Its a amazing story told in a very strong way. 10/10
Depth: The game will probably take about 10-20 hours to beat. The world map seems to have a few places that look a little empty, there are still lots of areas to explore. There are also many bonus quests and even a alternate ending. A lot to do in the game, it will definitely last quite a while. 9/10
Difficulty: The game is at a fair difficulty, the player may need to level grind a little, it usually stays at a fair level, and goes at a good pace. You will probably die a few times, it will never get frustrating.  The game is great for people new to action rpgs, or experts. 7/10
Overall: This game is great and fans of the series will really enjoy, people who haven't seen the show will probably also enjoy it. It is a great game and a great play for action rpg fans or DBZ fans. 8.7/10
A great play

My DBZ Legacy of Goku 2 Review   SgtSlayer117
Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku 2 follows the events of the Trunks Saga, Android Saga, and the Cell Saga.  It does a very good job at letting you replay those events in a video game.  The boss fights are tough but they make you think which is good.  The game is big as you can't complete the game in an hour, there are unlockables as well as the whole story you have to go through.  You can play as Goku, Piccolo, Gohan, Trunks, Vegeta, even Hercule!  The games music is amazing, it really reminds you of the score from the TV show!  The game can be difficult at times but that is why you have to level up your characters and find the capsule items that increase your endurance, strength, etc.  It is an RPG game after all with action and adventure thrown in.  I definitely recommend this game, as it is better than Legacy of Goku 1 and the sequel Buu's Fury which was only a little better.

Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku II Review   linkmaster99
Hello again I am linkmaster99 submitting another dragon ball z review. To me unlike the others this is one where androids attack the future, and it is up to trunks to save the future. He travels to the present day stops Frieza, and tells goku about the future's destruction. Androids will come, and wipe out everyone except gohan, and goku dies from a heart disease, and gives him a antidote for the matter. Soon he will tell he has three years to train, and Vegeta, and Bulma are his parents. You do some side quest in west city just so you could get some practice in before things start to get really complicated. This is what I mean you go in the forest, and save some missing children. Then you go into the triceratops jungle to help farmers have their land again. Last but not least you get the city hall key from a man who stole it you have to get it back, and bring it to city hall. That is basically the first part in this game let me get started with the review now, but this time my review will be a little different than my last ones.
Graphics: 9
The graphics of this game wasn't half bad they looked like the stuff from Dragon Ball Z Buu's Fury, not to mention it had a 9 in my other review as well. This game doesn't really hurt me in the looks because, it looks epic. I know some of you like Dragon ball z games where you see their full body, and fight, but you actually can they just seem small, but still the graphics of this game really is cool, and I actually like games that looks like this they never fail to amaze me greatly. Most of them are full of surprises because, you never know how fun a game could get. Most people only judge by looks. Still though this game has a lot of quality to give if you take out the time to beat, and it does it while it looks awesome as well. The game does not look bad, but it could use some improvement on it though well at least on the way the fighting looks they could have made it look more REALISTIC. Anyways that is my point this game is fun so don't judge it on how the way it looks. It might surprise you once you get past small stuff.
Sound:10
The sound on this game wasn't half bad if you had to ask me. I really quite enjoyed listening to the music some places on that game really have some good music to them. Like Ginger Town, Tropical Islands, and the Cell Games Arena. I liked the music on this game, and it didn't Evan make a single crunch. By that I mean it didn't start messing up, and sound like rubbish. The music on this game suits most people and most places. What I mean the characters have their own theme songs. Trunks, Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Evan Hercule. You would know his theme song at the beginning of the game. You will also know Trunks to. Well I think I have made my point, but to be sincere to you all I like the music on this game, and you all probably enjoy it to. Maybe I Evan like it more than Pokémon songs, and they are mainly my favorite, but what can I say this game is a major part in being EPIC. That's only if you know what I am saying though really serious about it though.
Story: 6
Well I gave the story a 6. I really enjoyed it, and the parts on the cut scenes where I had to read. It was really amusing, and now when I watch the show I can memorize everything they said because, the said it in this game. Really though the story was awesome and I don't mind doing it anytime. I put work into it one time and completely beat it. I got all golden capsules, and found all namekians. I also got all my characters to level 50 Evan Goku, and hercule. Oh, and I can't forget that I got all the statues on this game. That is what I mean when I say completed the game. I also opened every single gate on the game it was awesome because, I had nothing more to do on that game, but I still played it. I don't care if there was nothing left to do on the story though as long as I still saw it as a really fun game I was ok with it. That is why I can play a game for as long as I die and still like it. Unless the game started out lame, and only got a little fun during the story.
Addictiveness: 6
I found this game very addictive on various parts on this game. It is fun, and really enjoyable, and some parts actually made me laugh. I love this game, and will always be playing it as long as I can. On the game boy advance this is actually one of the best I ever played in my life. I decided that the 3 games like this are special to me because I owned them all before, and beat them. I really like them, enjoy them. I Evan respect them a little. To me those games ore addictive, and amusing, and I hold them sacred to me. They are like a 3 piece puzzle, and have mystic to them. That is how fun they all are to me and I really enjoy playing them. Still though this is mainly about dragon ball z legacy of goku II. This game is really addictive, and fun, and it also plays through one of my favorite dragon ball sagas. That is why I like this game more the other 2. I do admit though dragon ball z buu's fury is way fun to me though.
Depth: 6
This game was actually harder than it looks. That is really the thing that made it long. So it really took me a while to beat it especially on my first try. It took me longer to beat than dragon ball z buu's fury so yes it did have a lot of depth to it. The thing that had me stumped was I got stuck at northern mountains for a while it took me a while to get past it. To me that was a really hard part on the game because it was confusing. It really took a lot out of me, and I was at the point to quit, but I finally got past it, and then I enjoyed the game from there. Still that wasn't the only place I got stuck at though. At the beginning I got stuck at west city because, I had a bunch of stuff to do, and that was confusing as well. I also got stuck on the part where Piccolo fights with android 17. I died quite a few times on it, and so it took me a while to get past it. That is why I say this game has a lot of depth to it.
Difficulty: 5
I have given this a 5. But it is no ordinary 5. I would say this game was 5.7 to me. It was really hard, and fun at the same time, but it also took me a while to beat it. That is why it has a high difficulty. I would say though the hardest part on this game for beginners is the northern mountain part, and the reason is because, you could really get stuck there, and it would be hard to get out. I would say the generator part would be easy, but one generator is hard to do. You have to move eggs to the bottom of the mountain, and can't fight. Also if you get hit the egg breaks, and you have to get it again and restart. Your best bet is to use Vegeta, and his super saiyan because it moves fast. It would really help you a bunch. If I had to measure a difficulty on that  place it would be 8/10. That is how hard it is. That is why I consider that to be harder than every last single one. It is Evan harder than bosses because you have to fight 3 bosses on that part.
Overall: 9.3
This game perfect rating would be a 9.3 in my opinion. This game is epic, and lives up to it's rating. Everything I said so far equals up to this right here the master of all ratings. This is my overall, and why. This game has a lot to offer you, and gives you a heck of a adventure through the dragon ball z world. You play as Gohan, Trunks, Vegeta, Piccolo, Goku, and Hercule. They all are powerful, and all, but they have to gain it through out the adventure they embark on. I would say that at the end of the game they are really powerful then because, they train to max level, and there powers are beyond imagination. This game has it's weird flaws to it , but it is awesome , and could keep you enjoyed for a good deal of time like it did me.

As close to the Anime as you will get   HatecrewCOB
Some people may chalk my intense love of this game up to nostalgia... & while there may be a bit of truth to that... I am pleased to say that those people would be mostly wrong. If a game doesn't live up to what I remember it being then I actually rate it harsher than I would a mediocre/crappy game that I have no fond memories towards. The reason behind this being that if I once loved it & it isn't as good as I remember it being, then it obviously doesn't have the staying power to stand the test of time. That being said, this game firmly proves that it has that aforementioned staying power as it is every bit as good today as it was the first time I played it (hell... it may actually be more enjoyable now than it was way back then).
I am sure that many a person may label this game as a cash in to capitalize on the Dragon ball Z craze of the era... & while I suppose on a certain level it is just that, it is also something more. An actual GOOD licensed game from an era over saturated with horrible, mass produced turds disguised as children's video games. To say that this game is faithful to its source material would be an understatement... in fact, it is in a lot of ways TOO faithful to the Dragon ball Z franchise. The story is more or less a cut & paste job of the Trunks Saga-Cell Saga with a few completely unrelated side quests thrown in (I know the way I said that makes it sounds like it is a bad thing, but it most certainly is not. In reality I love the side quests as they bring something new to the table besides the story that we have heard a million times). The controls are perfectly reactive & not even the slightest bit stiff. The gameplay itself is borrows liberally from that of the Legend of Zelda series. The main difference is that the game features basically what would amount to over worlds in the Zelda series instead of the dungeons that are the core of the series (which *I know I'm in the minority here* are easily my least favorite parts of Zelda games). That isn't to say that the game doesn't have a few puzzles here & there... just nothing that will really rack your bran too much.  Another difference would be having 5 (6 really) different characters all with their own Ki abilities (including transformations) that would take the place of the solitary Link & his plethora of tools. As for the difficulty... If you are a pretty avid gamer, this game should pose no threat to you. It is at its heart a game designed for children.
So for me, this game is about as close to perfect as a DBZ Game will likely ever get & is probably the best GBA game that I've ever played. If you are a Dragon ball fan, or even a Zelda fan, this is most definitely worth looking into.

The thing that makes the boss fights challenging on this one is how the bounce back every hit. That's your cue to step back and run back up again depending on how far you bounce them back. Take it and run with it ;)

Also, love how the show's soundtrack is in this game. Why couldn't they do that for the PlayStation games? Those were great, but I felt the actual DBZ soundtrack would have improved some of them.
captain napalm 11-17-12 - 07:50 AM
Anyone complaining they can't beat the bosses--for Frieza, you just have to attack relentlessly. For the other bosses (sparring matches, the androids) if you can't win, go beat up some random enemies until you level up some. Also, use Super Saiyan. A lot
