It's being reported that the newest Rainbow Six Seige patch on PS4 is corrupting hard drives. If you play this game on your PlayStation 4, do not install this patch. If you have installed it, be advised that the problem appears to occur when you attempt to invite other players to your party.

The Rainbow Six Seige patch is causing this problem for everyone, regardless of whether they have installed the newest firmware update on their PS4 or not, so the problem appears to be entirely due to the new game patch. Ubisoft has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Important notes:
•Some are saying that it is your PSN account that is affected, not your hard drive. According to this claim, you can still play on your PS4 from a different account if this happens to you. This could save you a good chunk of cash, but if actual harm is done to your PSN account, you could be looking at another form of massive damage. One can hope that if this is indeed true, PlayStation has backed up data that can be used to replace the corrupted file, or single out and fix the damaging code.

•Some are claiming that this can be fixed by a database rebuild. If you've already experienced this bug then it's worth a try I suppose.

•Most importantly, this is only being reported by two sources that I can find, and one of them is using the other for a source. Said source is Reddit, so I'm not entirely comfortable posting this article as fact, for fear that this may be a bad prank, but it's better to be safe than sorry, right?

That's all I can relay for now. I'll be sure to add any additional info as it surfaces.

EDIT: It's now being reported by some that, once this patch is installed, accessing your friends list in any (or outside of one even) game will cause problems. This seems odd to me personally, but at this point we know nothing at all in an official capacity, so all we can do is listen to other users.

Ubisoft has now said that they are aware that using party invites causes the system to crash, however, they are not claiming responsibility for, or even acknowledging that Hard drives are being corrupted. This may indicate that those reporting corrupted hard drives are simply panicking and jumping to conclusions (there have been several supposed workarounds found by players, but many insist that they do not work), or it could be that Ubisoft is doing exactly what many of us expected they would do to begin with and denying liability for any damages.

Here's to you, Ubi:

Well, at least they are consistent with their terrible support and accountability. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
