Auto br tag doesn't work

For some reason, the board isn't recognising when to auto-br on a new line. This has not been a problem when I was around here before (up to May 2017), so it is clearly a recent bug which I am finding really annoying to deal with. Not sure if it is a glitch relating to the spell checker or the parser, because I can't debug code and this software is closed source.

Simple fix for anyone reading: Just type < br > without the spaces on a new line to actually create the new line.

I don't know much about how HTML or message boards function, but when the new site layout launched a little while back, for security reasons he said, David disabled any page altering code. I get the feeling that this might have something to do with that.
