I have recently looked into study groups and it directed me to Discord. What my original interest was an all in one place to be able to talk to other people and have groups where you can update and share work, ask Questions, things of that sort. Some major Online Collaboration Software has really been trending in tech circles online (more so for programmers) like Slack, Asana, HipChat. I have only ever tried Slack and now Discord because of studying for a certification and that's what they chose to you. I like the ability to easily group and team message people (pretty much just like IRC / instant messengers) but with added features and file sharing / support.

Anyone have any experience or comments?

I write for Gamnesia.com and we use Slack for all communications. Its good for sharing files and PMs.

I just finished a summer job at a bank and we used Skype for Business for internal communication.

All up to preference really. I greatly prefer Slack.

In my experience, any team that uses only discord is just a trouble team. Slack has everything for team collaboration needs and more, there is always some people that say "oh but discord can do it the same" well no it can't. Discord is a chatroom for gamers and just a chatroom, texting codes to one another is not organized, uploading models or pictures will take some time and unneeded fillings. One very annoying thing about discord is who will be able to invite people, slack is very strict and its just email which means if you cant trust me with my email or you cant trust me with my email then it's bad teamwork but no in discord random people will join without you knowing.

discord is great for chatrooms but bad for working.

I really like using Slack. Been using it for almost a year now with my writing team and never had any issues.

I haven't used this in a really long time so idk if it still works the same as I'm used to, but i also used Google Hangout a lot.

In an internal office setting, we're just using plain ol' google hangouts and google drive for communication and passing documents around. As for the codes, we're using SVN via SSH.
