At first, I was going to circle around just my friends group, but as so few of them know anything about coding, it leaves me with little other recourse.

I have a friend who is looking for help expanding his brand. He has a domain, and all the other pre-reqs out of the way, all he needs is some help designing the website.

To be good for this job, you must:

A) Be able to code, at least as well (and hopefully better) as I can. If no one takes the job, it will mean I have to do it, probably, and while it's something I can probably handle on a very base level, I'd rather find someone who has more time, and is looking to go into this line of work.

B) Be somewhat reputable. I don't mean this as a slight to newbies. But I need someone to handle this job that I can trust, which means if you do not have any experience, and cannot show me some of your work and PROVE it is you who did the work, you need to be at least a trusted member for me to take your word for it.

C) If you are not a trusted+, you must have proof of your work, and be properly vetted by both me, and the person looking to get help with his site. I will not tolerate a waste of either of our time.

You can post in this thread, or give me a PM. In either case, you must be open to the following:

1) Giving me your email address. This is so I can confirm with the person asking for help that you are who you say you are. I will be giving you his email as well, so this means I need some level of accountability from you.

2) Giving me a good reason to trust you. This is not a game. There's an actual job out here for someone to tackle. I don't know if he plans on payment or anything, that's to be discussed with him, not me. This is for real, and he's up and coming in his field, so he has a chance to give you great exposure too.

3) Competing. I've extended this offer to many, and I plan to continue to do that. I want my guy to be happy, so I want to get him the best help I can for his buck.

4) Either providing a portfolio of your work, or giving us solid references to work you've done in the past. If this is your first job, you must be open to showing me what you can do, and explain to me your knowledge. I have no idea how comfortable he will be with that, but I'm willing to at least pass you over to him, at that point.

Hmm... do you have any additional details regarding the website? I'm currently a Java Software/ Web Developer, so if you need help with the codes and the front-end design, I'd be able to extend a hand.

As for the samples of my work in web development as a professional, as per company contract, I'm not allowed to disclose them to the public. However, I'm open to sharing them in private (preferably email) if you want me to send some screenshots. I currently have two ongoing projects, one which is a standard promotional website with Contact Us page, blog feature and an online support chat. The contents can be edited using our company's proprietary CMS. The other one (which is a lot bigger since the manager assigned two developers and one designer for this) is a CMS development from scratch. Apparently, the client doesn't want our standard CMS and would like us to develop a different one from scratch based on their specific requirements and wanted database structure. Aside from that, they also want their 3 websites redesigned and connected to their CMS (We haven't done that part yet, heck, we're not yet even finished with the CMS).

Depending on the budget and website structure/design, I can also drag my other workmates into this project since they're also open to freelancing. We've decided to form a group just a few days ago and start freelancing but we haven't found a client yet. Currently we are a group of 6:

1 Business Analyst - can also function as a project manager
1 Support/QA
2 Front-End Developers / Designers
2 Back-End Developers

^ Those are based on their actual title and job in the company. However, that doesn't mean that they're limited to their corresponding roles. For instance, our front-end developer were former back-end developers in their past companies while the two back-end developers (me included) usually help with the designer's job and work closely with them during development. Our support guy also used to be a developer but found the Support/QA role a better fit for him. Our business analyst can also be a technical analyst and she can easily help with coding if needed.

Can you offer any more details about this site? Is it a small site or one that requires backend development and what industry is it for? I can code but would like to know more about it before I apply for it.

I might be interested in this depending on the details. My hourly rate might be a little higher though so if that's an issue, then Juliet or JigSaw would be better off for the project.

When it comes to details, I chose to leave that between you and the client, since I'm just a go between. I'll be sending you all his contact email, however, as I trust all three of you with such sensitive information.

I have no idea what his rate, or anything would be.

Juliet - I don't know your group-mates, but if you vouch for them, I'd feel comfortable vouching for them as well.

JigSaw - From what I understand, it's going to be a small site. He's trying to build his brand. He might go further with backend down the line, but for now, all he has is the domain, and wants, in his words "Just need to set it up & make it look good". He doesn't know a whole hell of a lot about website design, I would imagine (I'm not experienced, but I would wager even I know a bit more about this than he does, which is why I can take it in the worst case scenario no one else can help/he doesn't have a budget).

David - It might be. I messaged you in chat about it, since I know you were looking for freelance work still. I know it's something you could handle, but I didn't know how worth your time it will be. I'll send you pertinent details as well as the other two, so you can contact him, and see if it's something you can/want to handle.
