Considering that Elon Musk is behind the idea, I'm not too fond of the project. While it would be fun to have such a project, Musk's dependence on subsidies makes me worried that it's just going to be another white elephant in the herd. Plus, how will we power this?

This is kind of ridiculous... Why does anyone need to travel at hypersonic speeds in a train? Better question: can I make six figures a year by overcomplicating travel and working on a project that's totally impractical, not economically feasible and will likely never go into widespread production and use?

Where are they going to come up with the electricity to power this thing? Electric engines are a great thing, but we don't have to try so hard to get efficient transportation. All of the time and money that's going to be wasted on this would be much better spent on something worth researching like algae based bio-fuels than can be used in existing internal combustion engines.
