I know that once you download the plugin it stores whatever on your desktop, but is there a way for you to save your plugin data (what I am poorly trying to English into words here is can I backup the Vizzed Folder on say a Flash Drive, and then if my computer dies or I simply change computers, I can re-download the plugin, and then restore what was on my flashdrive and over ride it into the folder...)

I don't know if I asked this correctly or even if this is the proper place to put it, but I am thinking of using Vizzed more and it is so much easier to play PSX or whatever on here than finding them in the wild so to speak. I was wondering if there was any way I could get my save files back. Maybe by a roundabout way or what to backup on a flash drive to make sure I keep my save files.

If this is in the wrong area, just point me in the right direction for the next time!

Yes, you can back up your save files in any way you like.

Just keep in mind the "Program Data" folder is usually set to Hidden by default.
See this thread (mainly Postman3's post) on how to get to your save files-
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=96139

This one also has a little info on the subject-

If you have any more questions or concerns, please let us know

Mynamescox44 : I am very familiar with getting stuff from the plugin folder... So what folder do I backup onto a flashdrive to keep my saves. I can access my saves for the systems I care about, but I just want to know how to do this.

I have game saves primarily under PSX at the moment (so far) that I care about and found said folder of saves. Do I just take a flash drive and put them on there? It can't be THAT easy! Also I have some PSX save states to either keep or get rid of, which folder are the save states?

I have a library computer I go to test impartial backups so in the future I can go to a library to test all this out.

Wow I feel really garbled and I don't know if this is understandable. Thanks for responding!

The exact folder location should be...

C:// ProgramData > Vizzed > VizzedRGRPlugIn > User-141274 > Mednafen > sav

The Mednafen folder may have a slightly different name, such as "Mednafen_new" but since PS games only use Mednafen with the Plug-In, that's where they'll be.
Also, the numbers in the "User-####" folder are unique to your own profile on the site. I went ahead and put yours in there, but just giving you a heads up about it lol.

Just copy whatever ones you need from the "sav" folder, and then you can simply import them to that folder again whenever necessary. They'll have the game title in the name, so it's easy to tell which ones are for which games (but make sure not to change the file names, or the Plug-In may not recognize them anymore). This is the same for every emulator, so the same method can be used for all of them, not just Mednafen.

I'm pretty sure I tested this a long time ago, but it's been so long I can't remember for sure. You might want to test it before deleting anything, but I'm almost positive everything here is correct.
Hope this helps

Mynamescox44 :

Am I correct in assuming that roms I initially downloaded stay on your profile? (By this I mean the Plugin folder. I have some games on my profile I know are still on there) Do they stick with the plugin or is it deleted? Is it only save data that's "deleted" once you re-download the plugin?

I have no way of testing this until I go to a library or something as I only have the one laptop. My mother has a mac and that's something else entirely. Also, as an edit that wasn't really here a few minutes ago, how are Dreamcast saves stored? Granted, as of this writing, I don't have any saves, all I did was start Resident Evil Code Veronica up, but that might change in the future and wanted to know if it was as simple as heading to Null DC and going to Data once something showed up.

The ROMs are also saved in the Plug-In folder, but it's located somewhere else...

C:// ProgramData > Vizzed > VizzedRGRPlugIn > Downloads

That should be where the .zip files are saved which contain the ROMs and any other files needed to run the game. Again, I'm not 100% certain, but can almost guarantee that's the folder / files you need so the ROM doesn't have to download again.

I honestly have no idea which folders are deleted or remain when reinstalling the Plug-In. I've never actually had to do it myself, so I haven't taken the time to figure that out. Sorry.

--EDIT--
I don't know for sure since DC games never worked on my computer, but it should work the exact same way in the Null DC folder, or any emulator for that matter, as it does for Mednafen. Each emulator should have the "sav" folder which contain the save states, and each emulator is located within the "User-####" folder.

Mynamescox44 : So I decided to gamble and after backing up the Roms and Saves of the games I cared about, I decided to uninstall Vizzed's Plugin (I had to say no for the reinstall question so it would delete the plugin stats... it was a lie, but it was the only way)

For the games I was at least somewhat invested in, I got the save stats back with no reprecussions. I did have to start the game once to get the files in the plugin and then close it and replace that save file with the backups.

I don't know if the rom folder is technically needed in my backups I figured it's just a matter of starting a game once, and replacing the save file with the one on my external, but I figured it was a nice shortcut to have.

Since this was successful, I don't know if you close it or not or just leave it here for the ghosts to talk in. I will most definitely be on Vizzed for my Playstation games more in the future. It just takes excessive storage usage and moderation but it isn't that bad.

Thanks for helping/confirming what to do! In this case gambling paid off. Vizzed can also be a good source of rom usage to prevent annoyances in tracking down various games. Obviously I am on my own for Gamecube, DS, and PSP, but it saves my skin for various other games and my files won't get corrupted. I had that happen to a GBA game I was playing offline and was very close to the end.... I was not happy!
