Abortion is a very controversial topic, with lots of contrasting viewpoints and differing opinions. On one hand, some think it's a cheap and easy way to get rid of an unwanted child. Others believe it's wrong because that child is a person too, and killing them willingly is just twisted. Your opinion?

Welp... just letting you know, this thread may get pretty heated... Abortion is one of the most controversial topics, next to Gays... especially for conservatives. So, please make sure you monitor this closely.

Okay. So my opinion. I believe that Adoption is a MUCH better option than abortion. Many couples are incapable of having children, and they would LOVE to have that child you would have killed. Now, I am VERY opinionated, especially about this. I don't think that it should be a thing. And, I don't agree with any aspect of it. Maybe you had the kid as an accident, but I feel like it's best to deal with your mistakes. If I make a HUGE mistake, I want to deal with it.

I'm pro-abortion.

Let's take it to the extreme and say that a child was conceived after a sexual assault. I feel like a woman should have the right to choose to not give birth to it.

Yeah it was a life that was taken away, but so were all the ants that you've crushed, all the meat on your plate, etc.

This is a topic that people will never agree on. I know some get very heated when it comes to their point of view on stuff like this, but please respect my and other people's opinions even if they are different from yours

In 2015 it was estimated 906,000 abortions took place. Now consider this, only 1,300+ died from Death Penalty since 1976. How an unborn with a clean criminal record is able to be executed with no crime or no punishment for the murderers (the woman and the doctors performing it) is truly messed up.

Here are some interesting stats I found on abortion and why it should be illegal unless in cases of rape or health issues. A majority of those who abort are... pardon my french... stupid whores

<0.5% Victim of rape
3% Fetal health problems
4% Physical health problems
4% Would interfere with education or career
7% Not mature enough to raise a child
8% Don't want to be a single mother
19% Done having children
23% Can't afford a baby
25% Not ready for a child
6% Other

JigSaw : Let's not say "Stupid whores." Let's say they aren't educated and they may not have access to effective birth control. When you look at statistics that show educated women have much lower instances of abortion and school districts and states that encourage sex education as part of their programming also have lower instances of abortion, you start connecting dots.

Take Russia under communism. It's estimated 50% of pregnancies were terminated in abortion because the government was too busy ordering manufacturing of steel, weapons, and other goods, not contraceptives. No one was manufacturing condoms because the government did not feel they were important. Nor did they have access to drugs or other prevention measures.

So, access to women's health care is another reason abortion is used as a contraceptive.

And why blame just women, JigSaw? The guys banging them are also not providing condoms, not doing anything else to prevent pregnancy, and they're as guilty as the female.

I think abortion is acceptable under health considerations, sexual assault, and some other factors. Is it acceptable for contraception? No. That's not fair to the kid and it's more dangerous than other forms.

Also, your 906,000 abortions performed in the United States seems like a lot. But it has been trending downward in the U.S. since the 1990s. Not bad.

Ghostbear1111 : Sex is done by mutual consent in most cases... And, the guy is only 50% of the process, but it is up to both to decide whether or not to use protection. If she says no, then it's no. It takes both her and him to decide to use protection, use a day after pill etc. Really, it's left to choice... if she thought it fine for no protection, then she made a choice, that has consequence. Really, each person has equal blame, but the female has much more at her disposal than the male. There's MANY options that would make abortion not needed...

I'm glad that the number of abortions are going down, but to me, 1 abortion in the past decade is one too many... That's just my opinion though.

Also, I'd like to underline what JigSaw said... <0.5% are due to Sexual Assault/Rape. That means that there is no real reason to have it just for that... Also, there are still other options for her... Not just an abortion. Adoption is still a viable option, yes. She has 9 months of agony... I know, but if it's too late for a day after pill or anything like that, than I'd say it's still best for her to stick it out and consider adoption.

Still, my opinion, maybe not a popular opinion, but mine nonetheless.

Ghostbear1111 : Why blame the women? Because they are the ones harvesting the baby. Yes, I agree the men are to blame too (for the baby) BUT not for the abortion. I guess the man could be blamed if he were to force an abortion on the female somehow or was responsible for the rape.

I just don't understand how one could not be educated on human breeding. You have reckless sex then a baby will pop out. What is to learn there? Maybe it's just me, but that seems like common sense.

A lot of people usually do not learn until consequences smack them in the head after they do the dirty deed whether it be sex or taking drugs. No amount of education will brainwash them into thinking otherwise. Maybe education can save a few lives from being ruined but certainly not all. There are people out there who never learn, who go back to rehabs, jails and abortion clinics and repeat the process over and over and over again. Those people don't need more education, they need serious mental health help or a good prison sentence to prevent further destruction in society.

I'm very pro choice. That doesn't mean I want every fetus to die, it means I'm all for giving the couple/women a choice on whether they want to have the kid or not. Most of the time in these cases, if the baby was born, it would live a pretty bad life. And while adoption might be good, it still takes the biological mother of the child 9 months (Plus childbirth, plus medical bills, etc...) and the whole adoption process is a mess anyhow.

Abortions are one of the safest procedures in the history of medical science if done correctly. If not, then it becomes an unsafe process that injures or outright kills women if done incorrectly.

No, anti-abortions laws do not stop abortions. It stops safe abortions, but people will still find a way (In other words, anti-abortions laws won't do anything but make women go through unnecessarily unsafe procedures.)

You know what will really help lower abortions, instead of attacking people who have them or support them? Good sexual education from a young age, and free contraceptives. Not only will abortions go down, but teenage pregnancy, unwanted pregnancy, and even STD's will go down.

It should be allowed. Please let me list why.

1. There are WAY too many people in the world.
2. Some people cannot reasonably care for a child when they do not know when their next meal is.
3. What if the unborn child has a developmental issue? Granted,we might be more enlightened nowadays, but let us face it,that kid was handed a big #$%^ you. Think about it,that kid will need specialized care his whole life,it is not cheap. And that kid's life will be compromised at best, and at worst he will not have a quality of life.
4. What it was a rape? What if it was incest? Would any of you, with a straight face be able to tell a woman she has to keep it?
5. There are already tons of unwanted kids in the world. Do you really want to add to that number?

There are many other reasons,I am sure. Just as there are many reasons it should never happen.

Oldschool777 : Overpopulation is only a thing of the city... I've been in 15 countries, and I've done a straight drive from El Paso TX, to MN... do that drive sometime and tell me that there are too many people. There was basically NO one for almost the entire 21 hours I drove. The world is not even close to overpopulation. The cities, need to change. People should possibly move out to the country, small towns die, and cities grow, Germany's population is dying at an insanely fast time. With only a 1.5 child per house average. There is no problem with population.

As for your second point, I bring up adoption, if you don't care for your child, MANY care! Foster care is there for people's children who aren't capable, didn't handle them properly, etc. Also, adoption is a WONDERFUL opportunity for those parents.

Your third point... If I had an accident that left me paralyzed... Would it be alright to have me killed? No. I may not be able to walk, but can still contribute to society. Disabled, doesn't mean stupid. There are many diseases, and that makes no reason to decrease population, genes deteriorate, people die, new diseases happen, disabilities are discovered. It's a part of life. Some may have issues, but many people have done AMAZING things with disabilities. There is a high function autism... That makes people be able to focus on a certain aspect. (Sometimes...) Disease is no reason for everyone to be able to undo conception.

The one reason I could possibly see as a viable option, is rape/sexual assault. That would be the one option I consider ethical.

Unwanted child? Really... Is there a good reason I don't want my child... does that make me better than a parent who leaves there baby in a trash can? Not really... but it's the same reason. Unwanted really is no reason for the death of an innocent child.

darthyoda : Thank you for responding, allow me to retort.

1. Overpopulation is EVERYWHERE. There are over 7 billion people in the world. It took until 1804 for the world to reach 1 billion and then we got our next billion in 1927. That is a little over a 100 years span. Read this and tell me there is not too many people. I agree, the cities house most of the population, would you willingly want to live in a place that is remote? No easy access to healthcare or emergency services? Or that is too remote for telecommunication? Japan too,has an issue with negative population growth.

2. Your second response goes hand in hand with my 5th point. For every one kid that gets a loving family, how many are left as wards of the state until they are 18?

3. You missed the point friend. You already exist. This is if the parents know the baby will be born defective or deformed. Autism is relatively mild compared to other disabilities. Yes,people can do amazing things, but most people can be very cruel to those of us that are disabled or have special needs. Like those four monsters (I refuse to think of them as human.) that kidnapped a mentally challenged man and tortured him on Facebook live.

4. Thank you for seeing that.

5. You want to see unwanted kids? Look in the slums. Look in low income apartments. Look in any place really. The kids run loose and act like little apes. A lot of kids are unwanted.

Oldschool777 : Okay, this is try two... my internet crapped out on me for my first one, so the wording isn't the way I want it to be. (possibly)

Overpopulation isn't a real thing yet... Not even close yet. Overpopulation is only a thing in the cities. If we had people that would be willing to move to small town America, the cities wouldn't seem so overpopulated. I grew up in Germany, in a rather large city with 500,000 people, but it never seemed large. I don't really know how to explain that, but it was across the larger area. The town I lived in before I joined the Army was a small town. It had roughly 15,000 people. It was pretty small. I could easily get across the entire town with a bicycle. (Which is what I did.) We don't have to move into remote locations... I've been in rural areas. My family owns a small hunting area out in MN. and it's pretty remote. No running water, not electricity, nothing. There is phone reception, but I don't really use my phone that much anyway. I'm not into texting, and I don't call everyone that often. The only reason we live in towns is because of jobs. We don't need that many farmers. That's why cities are highly populated.

With your second point, I'll combine it with my response to 5. Foster care... The kids live with families that want to take care of them. My brother is currently getting ready for foster care, and he's great with children. There are many options that don't lead to a child being a ward of the state till 18. Just saying.

I believe that my current existence started from conception. Again, that is the age-old argument of when life begins. Now, we can't argue against the fact that vital organs are developed early in  process, that's fact. But, where it's humanity begins is really a moral thing anyway. (To me, it seems that everyone's moral compass is different. Mine is such that I would believe that life (the soul) is there from VERY early stages of pregnancy. WAY before the latest legal abortion. Again, this is my interpretation, and there's nothing that will change my view on things, possibly not even yours... It's an opinion, not really anything I could say to change it. You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine. The point at which life begins is not something I think we could possibly prove through science.

I'm against abortion entirely, rape babies included. To me, a kid's a kid, whether it's conscious or not. If you make a bad decision, you pay the price. It would be like me accidentally telling something I shouldn't have and then having them whacked to undo it. In the case of rape, it's not their fault, but that doesn't make taking human life any more ethical in my eyes. The argument for free protection is dumb, too. That's like saying the government should provide me with free Aspirin if I'm a drunk. The only real solution I could get behind would be adoption programs. It's true that many would be under state "care" until they come of age, but that wouldn't be a problem if we actually tried to improve the system a little.

Oldschoo777: The more people who settle in rural locations, the more small towns will develop out of necessity. Right now, the entire worlds population could fit within the city limits of Jacksonville Florida with two-and-a-half square feet to their name. If you look at the size of Jacksonville compared to the entire rest of each of the continents, not counting currently uninhabited islands and archipelagos, there's room for the worlds population to multiply by two at least and not have much of an impact. It's true that pollution, energy, resources and food would be a serious problem if we kept going the way we are now, but if cleaner energy sources are better developed, water purification and pollution control is made more efficient and we better developed and freed countries that have dictator and starvation problems, the population doubling in the next 50 years would be no issue at all.

Eh, here's my awkward stance on this. I'm more pro-choice than pro-life. Whenever we have a discussion like this at school, I usually tell my friends that I'm only alright with it if the pregnancy is within 3 months. I'm not sure if that is actually my opinion on the matter. It was intended to be a lie since I live in Tennessee and would rather not get my ass kicked. But now I'm debating with myself whether or not I honestly think that. It's very complicated. A lot of people have told me that the fetus is alive, but I don't know if that's true or not. It doesn't seem like it's alive.

After typing this up, I have come to my conclusion as of now. I am pro-choice as long as the pregnancy is early enough or if the circumstances for why she's pregnant in the first place are good enough (in my eyes) to be able to have an abortion. How early is too early? I'd say around 3-5 months into the pregnancy. Anywhere past that is where I may disapprove.

darthyoda : Okay, let me try again.

1. Look at China and India. They each have over a billion people. How do you consider that not overpopulating? There are way too many people in this world. There are over 7 billion people on Earth. Trust me,there are way too many people here. It has gotten so bad in China that you are only allowed one kid.

2. Read my response again. For every kid that receives a wonderful family, there are others that get crap families,or are completely forgotten.

3. You are at the formation of life while in the womb. You are not considered born or human until you emerge. Again, you miss the point entirely.

m0ssberg: Right now,we cannot even guarantee clean air in some places. Hell,in China and Mexico, you cannot even breathe some days. The biggest issue with those resources is they are not viable or compatible with existing infrastructure. Solar is inefficient, electric cars are a joke, and the only way we will accept new advancements is if they do not impact us at all or make life easier *cough* lazier *cough*. Consider this: If you wanted to play the best video games in the 80's,you went to an arcade. Now you download titles. If you needed to get stuff, you went to a store or mall. Now most of the time, you do it online.

I am not saying stop innovating, just make it so it makes it a seamless transition.

Oldschool777 : Again... Concentrations of population, there is more space in both countries, and they (partially for China) have an option to leave. No one forces the people of India to live there. By choice, they've decided to concentrate in the cities. Also, China... government intervention, keeping people inside of country. They should have no way or motive to do that, but it still has nothing to do with population levels vs space. Also, as far as air goes... Yeah, move to the country. The air is AMAZING! (Unless you live on a farm... then it smells like manure. or the Middle East... there's just something odd in the air.) As far as energy... We have no immediate issue with energy sources. Also, by the time we would possibly run out, we would find something to use as replacement. (Going off of current scientific discoveries and the patterns of scientific discoveries.)

I am aware of that, but that is the reason for child services. They are there to make sure that those children with crap families get a better home.

3... As I said, legal definition is rather vague. If we go off of court cases, than it's not the same, it depends on the judges, jury, and circumstance of the case. Also, what is your definition of human? Mine is a soul. Which as I said, can't really be scientifically proven. A baby has full organs by 6 months... At that point, scientifically there is no difference between me and them. They have full control of everything we do. If we go off of biology, then we can't define them any differently than us. But, to be fair, development of the brain is normally not done until the age of 25. Which makes the definition of human rather vague. Just saying that there is no strict definition of human here. As I said, it's moral, not science at this point. Also, how do you explain the child having movements before it leaves the womb? It's alive. (According to what I see as the definition of life.) Movement, Brain, Muscle fibers, bones... what else do you think requires a definition of life?

Getting a little off topic with some of that though. Sorry about that.

m0ssb3rg935 : Oldschool's summon failed.

darthyoda :

1. But,think about it,to ensure comparable living conditions as a city, the small towns would need infrastructure and that takes time, money, manpower, and patience and there is a finite supply of all of them. China has been @$$ backwards since they adopted Communism. Yes,they may have the world by the short hairs,in some respects, but at what cost? Energy reserves are dwindling as we speak, that is why many are trying for alternate sources. But as I told m0ssb3rg,unless that source meshes perfectly and uses existing infrastructure,it is doomed to fail.

"To what profit is it to a man,if he should gain the world, but lose his soul?"

2. They cannot save everyone and as everyone knows, some fall through the cracks. Adoption is wonderful if you cannot have children naturally, but mistakes are made and we must have ways to deal with it. Sometimes it is better to have an abortion, than to add to the problem,as cold as that may seem. Think of it from a business view: If you have a warehouse full of product, but you are only selling small quantities of it,is it worth it,to keep stockpiling it?

3. I am going by the actual definition. When a baby is in the womb,it exists, but is not its own being. It is still dependent on the mother for everything. Now,as I said, you exist already,it is irrelevant. But if a child is born with some defect or abnormality, that kid's life becomes far harder. Things you and I may take for granted, they may never know. Other kids can be the cruelest beings to walk the Earth. And who is to say that the child with have a quality of life? Now if they have a mild issue, like autism, that can be managed and worked with. But a major one, like severe retardation (yes,I know it is not politically correct),that will impact their survival and ability to manage their own lives. Yes,they can be helped, given a simple job and have pride and satisfaction, but still,it is at the end of the day,not theirs. Maybe I am old,set in my ways, and maybe I am a jack@$$,I am just trying to be realistic here.

m0ssb3rg: What the hell is a summon fail? If you want to tell me something, then tell me,do not summon it. Christ...

Oldschool777 : Oh no, I definitely agree with you there. A seamless transition is not only critical to success, but also to the economy. If we stopped using fossil fuels cold turkey, then there would be multiple massive corporations who, granted, have far too tight a grip on the economy, but employ thousands upon thousands of people. If we broke the back of the oil industry, we would kill all kinds of jobs in the process. There is however a solution that can be used with existing infrastructure: algae. It's been in development since WWII and has been proven to work. The oil that can be sourced from marine algae can be refined into assorted bio fuels to be used in existing internal combustion engines and pumped through existing pipelines and is 100% renewable. You can even make it from sea water and industrial exhaust. Additionally, the byproducts and waste products of manufacturing algae based fuels can be used for fertilizer, treating waste water, conversion to natural gas, etc. and the only thing that prevents us from mass marketing algae based fuels is the fact that the oil extraction process is difficult and therefor expensive and that there's not an abundance of manufacturing equipment for such a purpose. If we had the right people with the right amount of money backing research and development right now, we could completely replace petroleum based fuels in 25 years.

m0ssb3rg935 : That is the only way it could work,if it were perfectly seamless. We cannot have one without the other. About the algae,I saw that on Vsauce, where they could take algae and make it into bio crude oil. There is one little problem with that. There are people that have made fortunes on gas and oil. They are not about to relinquish their fortunes so easily. Now,I agree with you,if we could do that,we could make oil and gas cheaply and the best part,if we did in vast quantities, that would knock out the Middle East on oil. 25 years would be a little optimistic. We have been to the moon in the 60's and 70's and yet,we cannot make a shuttle that can get there and back without giant solid booster rockets.

I'm totally pro-life. Thank you everyone else for providing statistics and reasons. If those before me did not convince you that, at the very least, abortion ought to be heavily reduced, you need to do more research. Plenty of bias in the pro-abortion camp, and everyone needs to be able to examine this. If you're unable to examine it, I don't know if there's any possible argument to be had.

Pro-person, pro-human, pro-life.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
